Chapter 5 – Making a Cake

Mika-san has been teaching me for months now. And thanks to her I can now use stronger magic. She says that my water magic is about level 3 now. Which means I’m an advanced water mage now!

Oh, you don’t know what magic level means? Well, apparently it’s a scale to measure how strong a mage is. Usually, commoners get stuck at level 1 since they don’t use magic. Commoners don’t use magic because most commoners are born with lower magic capacity.

Level 1 is a beginner magician. Level 2 is intermediate magician. Level 3 magic is also known as the advanced level. And level 4 is master level. And level 5 is god level.

Up till now, no one has reached level 5 in any elements. And only 10 people has reached level 4. Only three of them are alive today. One of those three people is my master!

Anyways, I’ve been focusing on one element only and that is water. I’ve been successful in manipulating the temperature of the water and turning it in ice. No one has done this before so mika-san was really surprised about it.

And so I invented a new sub-element called Ice magic. After that we focused on creating spells for all elements for a months. Until...

“Hey, Mika-san. I was wondering what your birthday is... “

“Ah, my birthday is tomorrow. I don’t usually celebrate it so i never bring it up.”

“EHHH? It’s tomorrow?! I don’t have time to get a present! “ I panicked, I want to bake a cake for her birthday too!

“Don’t worry Yuki-sama. I’ll be happy without a present, as long as you celebrate it with me!”

“O-okay... “

I guess I’ll try baking her a cake then... I’ve been wondering for a while now, but what era can I compare this world to ours?

“Ummm... Mika-san can you come im late tomorrow at 1pm?”

“S-sure...but why?”

“I’d like you to eat something, but it’ll take some time to prepare, so... “ I asked her with puppy eyes. And all she responded with is “o-okay...”

After that she left, and now I need to pick what cake I’ll be making...

The next day...

I woke up and went to my mother to ask about something...

“Hey mom, I was wondering if we had some cacao here in the palace... “

“Cacao? Other countries use it for medicine and gave some cacao to us. What do you need it for?”

Yes! Cacao exits here too! And we have them!

“Well, I found a way to make something sweet with cacao... “

“Really? That bitter substance can become sweet? Well you could try... there’s no use for them here anyways”

“Thanks mom! Also can i have more ingredients?”

“Sure... just don’t get hurt while cooking okay?”

“Yes mom!”

Well time to make chocolate then! After that I went to the kitchen got some butter, milk, cacao and sugar but...

“I need powdered milk...”

Oh crap... making powdered milk is gonna be impossible with current day technology in this world... Its not like i can just imagine the process and make it...

I opened and touched the jar of milk and started imagining it I might as well try...

“Turn the temperature down to its triple point, then decrease the pressure. heat it up to make the ice sublime and finally remove the unfrozen water molecules”

After that the jar started to shine and a few minutes later. A powder was seen inside the jar.

“EHHHHHH! WHAT WAS THAT?! “

Magic like that shouldn’t exist! What element was that?! Well... I guess i shouldn’t worry about that right now... I need to finish this up

After that i took out the cacao beans. Apparently its already been fermented, dried and roasted and is separated from the skin and is ready to go

So i turned it to cocoa liquor and turned that into cocoa powder and cocoa butter and stored it into my storage.

“Is this some kind of creation magic? This is too overpowered...”

Anyways after that I took out the other ingredients. Turned the sugar into powdered sugar and started making the milk chocolate.

After a few minutes i finished making the chocolate. Then, I cooled it down to make it solid and when it’s cool enough I stored it in my item box

My item box basically stops time so when it comes out again. It should stay exactly the same and won’t melt.

Anyways after that I made a chocolate cake. And found out that my creation magic is similar to earth magic. It can use existing ingredients and cost less mana or make them but it will use a lot more mana. So using my creation magic. I made the other needed ingredients for my chocolate cake that doesn’t exist in this world like baking powder and baking soda...

“Yosh, my batter is finished now. Time to bake it and make the frosting.”

After that I baked the batter. And made the whipped cream. After it finished baking, I let it cool down. Then, i cut it in half put some of the frosting and some cherries in the middle. Assembled it, and surround the cake with frosting.

Then I decorated the top of the cake with 8 cherries on top and put chocolate shavings on the side and on the top. I lowered its temperature and put it inside my item box.

“FINALLY I’M FINISHED!”

It took me a few hours and is finally done! I have 24 chocolate bars left... should last me enough for a month... I guess I’ll let mom taste test the chocolate.

I went to find my mom and let her taste the chocolate. She then took it and ate a tiny piece of it.

“EHHHH SO DELICIOUS!” she shouted surprised, her clothes didn’t break though...

Success! My chocolate was good for this world’s tastes

“How can you make something so bitter taste so sweet?” She asked, and all I responded with is that “It’s a secret!”

I went outside in 1pm to look for Mika-san. And sure enough she was there.

“Hey Mika-san, so I made something for you... I hope you like it!”

“Ehhh Yuki-sama made something for me?! I’ll gladly enjoy it even if it tastes bad!”

Ehhhh do you think that my cooking is bad?

I then put the cake in the table and asked her to eat it... She asked what it is but i just told her to taste it and...

“DELICIOUS! WHAT IS THIS?! ITS FLUFFY, SWEET, MILKY AND BITTER! THE FLAVOR IS PERFECTLY BALANCED!”

“Hehehe, It’s called a cake and I made it all by myself!”

“Ohhhh! Thank you very much Yuki-sama. This is definitely the best birthday I ever had!”

“Glad to hear that, Maki-san”

After that I just stared at her, and thought to myself

I wish that my apprenticeship will never end....
