Kat's POV

When I saw Amara I automatically liked her. Yes, she is shy, scared, and completely out of it when it comes to the 20th century. Once I got her talking, she is much easier to love. Watching her look at clothes in the mall with a confused expression is adorable. She wanted to get out because she felt like she was going to break something. Once we got home I put her stuff away. She went to the bathroom. After she left, Kai came in

"That's Amara", he asked

I nodded

He started to talk but I cut him off

"Mom told me about your situation", I smile

"Do you think you could help", I ask

"Maybe, I dunna know", I smile

"Come on", he begs

"How do I know you wont pull The Kai", I ask

"What", he asked

"You know, You flirt with them. Then you use. Then you toss. The Kai", I finish

"She's my mate", he whines

"And she's my friend", I yell

"Think about it. She is gonna be back", he whispers

"To late", I say and point to the door.

He slips in her closet

I gave her a phone

"What is this", she asked

"A phone", I said

"Oh...OK"

I showed her how to use it

"Hey, Kat", she asked

"Yeah" I asked messing with the phone

"What's a mate", she asked

I freeze. I put the phone down

"They're like the other half of your soul. You need them. You look at them and you just know. Your stomach flips and you can't stop thinking about them."

"Oh, I don't think I want one", she says

I look at her as if she was high

"Well if I meet him. He's gonna be to good. Then he will somehow find a way to reject me", she sighs

"You'd be surprised", I mutter

"Have you met me, he won't approve. For god sakes look", she said

She lifter her shirt. She had scars and burns on her stomach

"Don't tell", she said putting her shirt down

"I wont". I said

"And I guarantee you mate won't reject you", I say looking at her closet behind her

She smiles

I tune most of my life away so we went downstairs and she made mom and I the best grilled cheese. She then met my mom. Then she went to give Dad and Kai a sandwich

"Speaking of the devil, My wolf says

He puts his dish in the sink. He looked lost in his thoughts. Mom and I were just watching, waiting for him to crack.

"Why doesn't she want a mate", he bursts

"There it is", I mutter

"What. When", my mom says

I smile "Yeah. When"

"Well I was talking to Kat in Amara's room. She came back and I hid in her closet. And she doesn't want a mate", he says

"She doesn't want one because she will get her hopes up. Then her mate is going to reject her", I say

"KAI", mom yells

"That's what she thinks", he says and gets all frustrated

"I need to talk to her", He whines

"Fine. But don't get weird. Don't pressure her. Do as she says", my mom says

"Yes ma'am", he says
