《The Chairman's Assitant》chapter 27

We head to our desks that are on the same floor. When the elevator's door opens, I search the floor with my eyes for someone, in particular, the moment our eyes meet I glare at him.
He waves with his hand as if he's miles away. What the fuck does he want from Andrea? Yeah he's her ex and I'm glad he was the good one in the story but can't he piss off already.
The hated guy hugs Andy and I glower at him with distaste. When they break the hug, she looks at me puzzled and I'm hoping I didn't show too many emotions through my face.
I excuse myself and go to my room. I sit on my chair and sway around one time, what does he want from her? two times, maybe he'll ask her to marry him again and then she'll run away and I'll be by her side, three times, that's not a bad idea as long as I'm by her side.
What if they're making out right now? or worse he already asked for her hand and she said yes! I can't take this suspense anymore.
I grab some papers from the mess Andy said will organize later and run to her office. I knock once but never bothered to do it again and how much I wish I did.
Matia is holding Andrea's face in his hands and kissing her. In the end, I wasn't wrong, they are making out.
I close the door, embarrassed of the whole situation. I stroll back to my office ignoring the jealousy I was feeling or the urge to break the guy's face.
I try to carry on with my work, looking at the screen of my computer blankly for what felt like hours but to no avail.
The click of the door grabs my attention, distracting me from the thunderstorm of thoughts I couldn't get rid of. I realized it's not as helpful when I saw Andrea walking in.
She stood there in silence, looking everywhere but me.
"So, about what you saw, I think I should explain," she talks slowly, trying the words before spitting them.
"There's nothing to explain, you two were obviously making out," I say with what I hope is a flat voice.

"I wasn't making out I-"
"It looked like it." I raise my eyebrows.
"Its a misunderstanding, if you just let me-"
"I must admit Andrea after all those lectures on work ethics I'm quite disappointed. Who thought it would be you who involved private life with work?" I shake my head, dismissing her words before she gets to finish the sentence.
"Stop being childish Gabriel I'm trying to explain," she snaps, probably frustrated from the conversation.
"I don't need your explanation, your love life is none of my business,"
"Are you sure about that?" She asks frowning.
I try a couple of answers in my brain, all of them didn't sound right. "Do you like him?"
"He's really great but I don't like him that way," she brushes a lock of hair and tugs it behind her ear.
It took both of us a while to talk again, her chest rises when she inhaled deeply and said "actually, I kind of had feelings for you, it's not a big deal though. It's something I'm working on, you know trying to get rid of,"
My mouth forms an 'O' shape as I looked at her dumbfounded. She tugs at the bracelet on her wrist and shifts to the other leg awkwardly.
"I-" I try to form words, my brain rushes yet I couldn't form a simple sentence.
"You don't have to say anything. I don't want what we have to be ruined so let's just act as if nothing happened. I don't even know why I said that so let's get over it," she smiles then proceeds to walk out like nothing happened.
The rest of the day passed like a blur, I didn't get out of my office neither did I try to talk with Andrea. But before she left work she passed by.
"Hey Gabriel about those files, I've been wondering if you checked the CCTV cameras," She asked normally as if nothing has happened.
"Yeah, we did. At first, everything was as usual until the tap stopped for an hour in the afternoon," I said remembering how weird it was.
And after that she just left, I was hoping we could talk more about it but I understand. Andrea isn't the type to talk about her feelings I bet that was hard for her.

I finish the rest of the work I had and head out. Since I don't have a homie, something sad, I went to my dad's house to clear my mind.
I settle down on the couch next to my dad, "what brings you here young man?" He asks turning the TV on.
"I came to check on you, I was afraid you've died and nobody heard about it," I joke, dad has been living alone since I moved out. He tried dating a couple of times but it never worked, he always jokes about how my mom captured him in her spell, maybe she did.
"It's about Andrea, isn't it?" He says nodding lightly with his head.
"How do you know?" I question dumbfounded.
"It's obvious, it's not like you have anything interesting in your life other than her," He points out.
"She confessed her feelings today, I never thought she had such feelings," not that I never thought she was capable of liking someone, just that the someone isn't me.
"What did you tell her?"
"Nothing," What am I expected to say? I was shocked.
"Son," He looks at me and sighs, "I knew you were stupid but not to this point,"
"What did you want me to do? I have a girlfriend," I say not liking the fact that I'm being called stupid.
"If you didn't have a girlfriend what would you have done?" He asks. I wish I didn't tell him, now I'm being investigated.
"I don't know,"
"What do you not know? Are you that dumb?"
"Son, do you imagine your life without her? How did you feel when she wasn't there?"
"What do you think about Andrea getting a boyfriend and marrying and completely forgetting about you? Do you still think of Andrea as only a best friend Or are you finally smart enough to see that you love that girl?"
"I don't know," I say frustrated, "I don't want to lose her dad, what if she realizes that she doesn't need me, or that I'm not good enough for her. She does everything perfectly on her own, what would she need me for?"
Dad pats my shoulder and says, "Listen, Gabriel, I know Andrea likes you, and she has said it already. If she doesn't need you in her life then she would've left you the moment you chose Bailey over her. Man up, end whatever it is going with the girl you're seeing since things aren't working out and go get the woman of your dreams."
After checking on my dad and making sure he'll be fine I drive back to my house exhausted. I wonder if I still have power for the break-up.
I unlock the penthouse and get in silently hoping she's not here like every other night.
"Hi baby," Greets Bailey with a smile, it's better to be done now than never.
I sit in the living room and she sits next to me, "how was your day?"
"Bailey we need to talk," Here goes nothing.
"I know I have been coming late at night and all but now I promise I'll give you all the time we need." She cups my hands in hers and gives me her best puppy eyes. Does she know I'm breaking up with her or something?
I put her hands to her sides, "this relationship has been off for the past few weeks, it's not like I don't care about you, but it's time to let you go,"
"It's because of Andrea, isn't it?" She stands up, hatred taking over her features at the mention of Andrea's name, "she's back and now I'm out of the picture,"
"No, it's not like that," I say confused.
"Oh shut up Gabriel," She goes back and forth in the room, "I knew that she would be the end of our relationship, I knew it I should've killed her when we met,"
"Don't be silly Bailey," I say almost laughing at her, "I'm sorry Bailey I can't lead you on to something I don't see a future with,"
"I didn't want to play with your feelings I swear,"
" So you're saying we're over?" She asks looking at me with her watery eyes.
"I am really sorry," I apologize for the last time.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
