《Pink and Yellow - Trimberly》Chapter 2

I came to an abrupt stop and felt a body tackle me to the ground from behind.
"Ow! What the fuck?!" I heard myself say.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to do that. You just kinda stopped in front of me." Kimberly replied quickly.
I stood up and brushed off the dirt on my clothes. Kimberly and I stared at one another for a minute but I turned and started to walk away. Her hand grabbed my wrist and swung me around.
"I want to talk to you. What happened? Here have you been? Please just tell me." Her voice was full of concern.
I didn't say anything or spare her a glance. I didn't want to be here right now and definitely not with her. I suddenly found interest in my shoes and never dared to look up. The Pink Ranger stood there patiently waiting for me to answer or say anything at all but I couldn't, it hurt too much. A part of me actually wanted to talk and tell her everything, but then again, there are these feelings I don't understand and I don't think I want to. I began to walk away once again and this time no one stopped me. A small wave of sadness washed over me but I quickly brushed the feeling off. A walk turned into a run. I ran away from the taller girl for the second time today.

The next day at school was hell as usual. No one acknowledged my existence and don't get me wrong, I'm not entirely complaining. Last period and definitely the worst class is Biology. It's the only class I have with another Ranger and I'm thankful for that. I take my seat in the back and two seats over from my left is the Pink Ranger. I can feel her eyes on me watching my every move, waiting for any sort of explanation. Struggling to pay attention to the lesson, which isn't new, I began to doodle on my paper that I was supposed to be taking notes on. I never really pay attention in any class mostly because I already know the shit the teachers are teaching. But Biology is different, I don't give a fuck about anything the teacher says. Who is even the teacher anyway? She's like this old, and very very single, woman who is annoying and really strict. It's almost like she could pass out during one of her lessons.

"Excuse me, Trini."
I stop my doodling and look up. The teacher is in the front of the class and stopped her lesson to call me out. It took every ounce of will power to not roll my eyes.
"Yes? Miss... um..."
"...Norris. Miss Norris.", She scoffed.
What? Since when?
"Oh yes, Miss... Norris. Right I just forgot but I mean have you ever had that time when something gets to the point where it's so boring you can't remember it?"
A few kids snickered and I saw out of my peripheral vision Kimberly smile.
"Trini, Im just going to ignore that unnecessary comment-"
"-Like you do all the time-"
"-And politely ask you to pay attention in my class.", Miss Norris growled, obviously getting very annoyed.
"Sorry. No can do.", I chuckled.
"And why is that, Miss Kwan?"
"It's not like I would remember it later so no big deal right?"
"Do you want to stay here with me after detention?", Her face red with anger. Seriously, how has she not fainted yet.
"Well I have nothing better to do...But on the other hand, I don't think I want to see the devil in it's pure form, ya know?"
"You. Detention. After class. For a week. Starting now. Understand?!"
"Oh wait sorry I wasn't listening. Repeat please, less pauses in between.", I said giving her a big smile.
The now very angry, old, Biology teacher threw up her hands in annoyance. And after a few more snickers from the class, she continued the lesson. The Pink Ranger still has that smile plastered on her face as she listens absentmindedly to Miss Norris.
The bell rings a few minutes later signaling the end of the class. All the students pack up and exit the classroom except for me. Kimberly was the last one to walk towards the door. She turned and gave me a small smile then left. I was now the only one in the classroom besides the teacher.
"Alright, Miss Kwan."
I look up and see Miss Norris sitting on her swivel chair. She glared at me and said:
"First day of detention in hell... Let's begin shall we?"

For years, she's wanted nothing more than to beat the Male Division Champion, Rei. These two are considered prodigies way ahead of their age; none of their peers even come close to holding a candle against them. But be that as it may, Anasthese too, cannot hold a candle to Rei... She's never beaten Rei once he's serious. Anasthese has always considered Rei the best of her generation. It's her lifelong goal to beat and surpass him. That's why, when Rei's cancer had become fatal after their 3rd year running, Anasthese took it hard. Rei will die, with her never having beaten him, not even once. Things take an unexpected turn when Rei reveals that he is far from the "invincible" player Anasthese envisions him to be. Even he has someome he could never beat, not even if his life depended on it... a fellow apprentice who studied with him under GM Amane. A guy so-called "Net". This enrages Anasthese. A person stronger than Rei should not exist. Because if he did, then what has all her efforts for the past years been for? And if this Net "does" exist, why doesn't he challenge Rei for the title? Rei tells her it's not that simple... Net's playstyle is void. It's an enigma. It's chess that should not exist, and should physically not be possible to play. It goes against all logic, and it's power is not something that can be measured in numbers. It's something that would "absolutely not work" in a professional setting. Anasthese attends Rei's funeral as a last rite before setting off for Japan, bound towards the disintegrating Futenma Shintenkan Highschool chessclub, of which there are only two members left: Mukuro and Net. She has to see it with her own eyes, a playstyle that Rei lost to... And as Anasthese stays for the long-term, various misadventures are started at Futenma High, including rebuildung the club, Anasthese's "Royal Guards" (four girls dedicated to serving Anasthese and helping challenge Rei) coming to take her back to America, and unexpected guests gracing the local Sports Meet chess scene. From a guy who can only play well everytime money's involved, to a girl who plays on a weird "Magical Girls vs Orcs" chess set, get introduced to the quirky playstyles that make chess wonderful. (Disclaimer: I am not a chess pro, I'm only 1400. Expect me to have no idea what I'm talking about at certain times...)

Recovery of a Life
The prince of a kingdom was erased from the world. His very existence an enigma. Follow Xopil as he forces his life into a world that refuses to acknowledge his presence. I tried to write a novel without including all the standard things you find in certain genres, or if it is included, I hope it's at least a fresh take on it, this includes me breaking the fourth wall, probably too much. I'm wondering if that helped with humor at all, and also reconsidering if that should be a part of the story. I'm going to be rewriting every chapter at this point... and that chapter I'm extremely disappointed with could likely be deleted if not redone entirely. Now that this story is marked 'completed', I'll be going through each chapter and fleshing out the story a bit, as I found it severely lacking, and I've been saying to myself "I could have done more with that." way more often than I should be. And that speaks to my own dissatisfaction with my writing. I make no warranty-express or implied-as to the quality of these chapters, or the story as a whole. Cover art by Roman Valeyev
