Andy's POV
Grandma is driving us out to wherever I wish to go, but before we go to the Art Museum, she takes to go shopping. Grandma wants to buy us some dresses for my upcoming birthday party. I officially am turning seven, while my turns. . . I'm not sure how old he turns since he never wants to reveal his age. Grandma says because he doesn't want to feel old. I don't understand my dad looks young to me, he could probably pass as my brother since I was born when he was young.
Grandma speeds her way down to the closest mall from the house. She wants to make it quick so we can have time to spend in the museum.
She quickly parks the car and has me unbuckle in a zap. Then bam we are off looking for outfits. "Andy, make sure you cover yourself well, it's freezing cold out here." Grandma buttons my coat buttons. She then grabs my hand and swiftly takes me inside the mall.
"Alright, pumpkin, where to first?" Inside the mall was huge. It's been a long time since I've gone shopping in the mall, usually Daddy buys me clothes through the internet because he's afraid that paparazzi might chase after us.
I took a good look around the mall. I couldn't believe that in one location you can find so many stores to choose from. Grandma tightens the grip on my hand and leads us to a store called Justice.
"You'll like this store," Grandma says.
We enter the store and we're greeted by some female employees. "How can we help you today?" A woman with short white blond hair asks.
"We're looking for some dresses. Do you know where y'all keep the dresses?" I kindly ask.
"Why, yes. Follow me, I'll take you to your destination," the lady leads us to the back of the store to where they keep their stylish dresses.
"Look, Grandma! Aren't these dresses beautiful?" I run over to a cute purple striped dress.

"Yes, indeed they are," Grandma beams.
----------------------
Hours have past and Grandma and I have bought many clothes and shoes at many stores. It was fun shopping with Grandma, I love spending time with her. I love how she spoils me when Daddy isn't around to see, she and I are very close. I tell Grandma everything.
We have just finished ordering some Burger King, we try finding a seat. We find a booth and sit across each other. I pull out my fries and burger out of the Burger King bag as Grandma does the same.
"Fun day, huh?" Grandma asks.
"Yeah! I love all the clothes you bought me today, Grandma! I promise I'll wear them all just for you." I tear open the bag of ketchup and squish out the ketchup.
"Aww, pumpkin, you're so sweet!" She bit into her burger.
"Grandma, can tell you something?" I question.
She nods. "Of course, baby. What is it?" She wipes the sauce she has on her chin with a napkin.
"You promise not telling Daddy this? I don't want him to know until it's the right time."
"I promise, what is it?"
"I feel. . . Like I like this boy. He lives around our neighborhood and I was wondering what I should do. I know if Daddy knows this he'll freak out. I want to talk to him but I don't want to have Daddy scared. What should I do?"
"Wow, baby this is a huge step. I didn't think you'd like a boy this early," she clears her throat. "I think if you like him that much, I'd talk to him."
"Thanks Grandma. How am I going to speak to him if I'm practically at home all day?"
"How about you ask your dad to play outside so you can talk to him. You don't need to be suspicious, you're just going outside."
"You're right, I'll do that. Thanks for your help Grandma."
"No problem, honey. You're going to do great. Anytime you need to talk with someone I'll always be here for you." We continue eating the rest of our meals.

We then return to Grandma's car and drive to the Art Museum. I get excited to go to the museum, I haven't gone in a long time. Usually I go to the zoo or an amusement park with family members.
Once we arrive at the museum, I jump out of the car quickly and run toward the main doors. "Hold up, Andy!" Grandma tries catching up.
"Ooo, Grandma it's beautiful." I say entering the museum. The museum is a ginormous place that even has many stairs. I wonder how many sections there's in the museum.
"Grandma, let's go see what's up those stairs!" I tug her sleeve.
"Yes we'll go see what's up those stairs, but first we have to our tickets to see some pop art. It's beautiful art." She turns to her left and walks ahead to pay two tickets to see the pop art section.
"Okay, pumpkin. Let's go see the beautiful art," Grandma grasps my hand and leads me to the stairs.
-------------------------
"Look, Grandma. That's so pretty!" I point to the ancient vase.
"Look, Andy, isn't this painting pretty?" Grandma points to the painting with a woman and her child.
"Everything is pretty, these people who made all this art are very talented. I wish I was as them."
"Oh, honey, but you are. You have a talent."
"I do?"
"Yeah, you have the talent to make someone's day shine," she bends and gives me a kiss on the cheek. "You have a sweet heart."
I giggle. "Grandma!"
We continue our exploration but as we do, I can't help but take sight of a familiar face. I can't tell if the person is the person I think is, that's when I see her son next to her.
"Kathy, Tommy!" I run over to them.
Kathy turns to me, "Hi princess. It's so nice to see you here." She says.
"Hi, Tommy!" I say to him. He smiles at me. "How are you guys doing?" I ask Kathy.
"We're doing great. How's your dad doing?"
"He's doing good, um, right now he's kinda seeing someone. I'm happy for him, I like his girlfriend." I say.
"That's nice. I'm glad he's found someone, I bet she'll be a great mother figure in your life." Kathy smiles.
"Yeah," I pause. "Have you been seeing anyone?"
"Yes, uh, actually—"
"Andy?" I hear a voice call my name. "Andy! Honey, don't leave me like that again, one second you're there then the next you're gone. Don't run away from me like that again, missy." Grandma states.
"Hello, Lynn. It's nice seeing you again," Kathy greets Grandma.
"Kathy! God, it's a pleasure to see you here. How are you? God, you look gorgeous," Grandma rambles.
"Lynn, you're so sweet. You look gorgeous as well, ten times better than me! And if you must know I'm doing great. What about you guys?"
"We're having a birthday party for me and Daddy. You guys should come, it'd make my birthday very special if you guys came. I miss hanging out with you guys."
Kathy looks at Tommy, "I guess we could make some time to go to your party. Um, let me write down my number so you can contact me and give me more information about your party." Kathy opens her handbag and pulls out a small torn piece of paper. She quickly writes down her number then hands the paper to me.
"Here you go, sweetie. Call me or text me and let me know where I can find your party." She sighs, "Well, we better get going. We'll see each other soon! Bye!" Kathy and Tommy say their goodbyes.
This is exciting, Kathy and Tommy are going to my party. I can't wait to tell Daddy the news. I think.

A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.
