《A Special Someone for Christmas》Part 3: The team is everything

I immediately see Mr. Min slumped in his seat and unresponsive as Yea tries to get him to respond.
"What happened?" I question as I drop my backpack on the floor.
"He was talking to us and s-suddenly clutched his chest and slumped over." Yeona shakes and is ghostly pale.
"Let's get him on the floor quickly so I can check him out!" I demand.
I unbuckle him and grab his upper body, but he's heavy. Stuggling Yeona tries to take his legs, but she is thin and petite. I know that we must get him down quick. I tell her to step back, and I will lift him myself, however for safety, two people are ideal. Just as I go to grab him, I hear a commanding voice.
"You grab his legs Taehyung and I have his upper body," It's Jungkook. I'm surprised he remembered my name. "On my count. One, two. and three!" He says with him doing 90% of the effort. He is stronger than he looks.
We lift him and lay him flat on the floor. Jungkook steps back and just watches as I check his vital signs. He is not breathing and nor does he have a pulse.
"We need to start CPR now! I shout ripping open his shirt. I know Yeona is trained in CPR, but she needs to stay calm. "Yeona, you do chest compressions, and I will give rescue breaths!" I tilt Mr. Min's head back, open his airway, and give him two quick breaths. His chest riases with each breath. I move away fast Yeona immediately staddles him and starts chest compressions. I know in an emergency like this someone must direct the team. "Jungkook, on the wall outside the pilot's door is a red box that has the letters AED on it. Go get it, quickly!"
I hear Jungkook running through the cabin. Yea is paralysised in terror, but responding effectively. Jungkook returns quickly.
Yeona starts the second cycle of chest compressions while I instruct Jungkook on the AED. "Open the box and press the start button. Put those gloves on and give me a pair too. See those pads? Take them out and connect them to the flashing light. We are going to deliver a shock to his heart if he is not breath and has no heartbeat. Please watch Yeona and me because if we get tired, we'll need you to help. Look at her hands placement. She is pushing hard and fast. "
At the end of Yeona's 5 cycles of chest compression, I give Mr. Min two more breaths. I check for Song's vitals again and still there's no pulse or breathing. I hear Yea let out a whimper that sounds like an injured puppy. Time is of essence, and I work hard to not focus on Yea and what she must be going through. My training kicks in and I am completely patient focused.
"Jungkook we're going to need your help to make this work,"
"Sure, just tell me what to do," His voice has no resemblance to the passenger in seat 2B.
"Jungkook, peel the liner off both pads, one at a time. The placement must be accurate. Look at the picture. Place one here and the other here," I said calmly while pointing to each position. He perfectly and calmly applies the pads.

"The AED has a green light and when it's ready. We're going to shock his heart. When I say clear stand back and have no contact with Mr. Min. The AED will give us a voice command. Do you understand?"
"I understand Taehyung."
I can't help but be impressed with Jungkook's steadilyness and call to action.
The AED assesses Mr. Min and advises a shock to his heart. I shout, "Clear!" and then raise my arms in a sweeping motion to ensure no one is touching Mr. Min's body.
Jungkook and Yeona move back rapidly as I press the button and deliver a shock to Mr. Min's heart. I recheck for a pulse and there is none.
"Yeona, switch!" I shout as Yeona, and I move into position. She gives two rescue breaths and I immediately start chest compressions. As I complete my 5 cycles the AED assesses Mr. Min and advises another shock.
"Clear!" I shout as everyone moves back and watches as Mr. Min's body jerks. We have been at this for several minutes and I know that every minute that passes lowers the hiss chances of survival. Given his age this is not good. I have to say I'm happy to have Jungkook on team Min. The team is everything.
I check for a pulse. "He has a pulse and is breathing!" I yell and a loud exhale of air fills the cabin. Jungkook, shouts, "Yes," as I imagine him thrusting his fist into the air.
"Oh God! Oh God!" Yea sobs as she slides to the floor next to her husband. "Is he going to be, okay?" She asked as despair eked from her eyes
"Yea he needs medical treatment as soon as possible. But I'll stay with him and watch him until he gets treatment." He is now my patient. I remove a black vinyl bag from my backpack, unzip it and remove my stethoscope and a blood pressure monitor and cuff.
"Yeona, we need to get him to a hospital as soon as possible," She ducjs her chin in,, rises, and goes forward to talk with the pilot. I listen to his heart, and it is stronger but still weak.
"Let's make him comfortable, shall we."
Before I can get up Jungkook passes me a pillow and a blanket. I'm surprised that he is still hanging around as I quickly recall the bitter taste of my last interaction with passenger 2B. I place the pillow under his head and cover him. Yea raises his hand and places a soft kiss on the back.
"Tae he's still unconscious. When will he wake," Yea asks with painfilled eyes?"
"Yea, everyone's different, but he's had a loss of oxygen to his brain. If he stays stable, he should wake but he may be confused for a while. So, let's focus on just keeping him stable."
"Tae, I have something to tell you," Yea says as she lowers her head unable to look at me.
"Song's doctor recommended he not take this trip because his health was failing. H-He just had to see our first grandchild. He knew it was dangerous, but he was willing to take that risk. I-I should have discouraged him and now look at what happened. I'm so sorry. " She brings her hands up to her face and starts to sob.

"Yea, it's no one's fault. I totally understand. I work with doctors without borders. Doctor without borders is an independent, global movement that provides medical care where needed."
"What? You're a doctor?" I nod as Yea immediately looks upward towards the sky and brings her hands together as if she is praying.
"Thank God, thank God," She chants repeatedly. "Tae you are our Christmas miracle. I had a feeling that everything was going to be okay because I knew Song will see our new grandson. I saw that Tae. I had a vision. You remember what Song told you earlier about my visions."
"Yes, Yea I do. They always come true he said." I smile having tremendous faith in this woman.
"Yes, Tae they do. It will be okay. We will meet our new grandson together. After that I have no vision. But what I have been given, 40 years with my love which is more than most will ever get. We are very blessed." Her smile is strong and confident.
"I would agree," I say as I pull Saphire blue leather pouch out of my bag. "Yea I'd like to give Song a thrombosis injection. It will help reduce risk of blood clots that may develop. It's often given by emergency medical staff in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. But I need your permission first," I says as she quickly nods.
"Yes, of course Tae. God bless you, my Christmas Angel," she says as I open my pouch and remove a small vile and a syringe. I tie his arm, find a good vein, and administer the medication.
As I care for the used syringe Yeona returns.
"I talked to the pilot, and we will make an emergency landing... in Alaska at a small airport and Mr. Min will be immediately airlifted to a trauma center nearby. The pilot is calling in the flight plan and they will be ready. We will land in 3 hours. Because we are off course we will have to refuel, have service check and then continue on to LA. That should take no longer than an hour. " Yeona says.
"If that's the best we can do, I will take it." I say as I take Yea's hand and squeeze it."
I then hear a throat clear behind me and turn. I did not realize that Jungkook was still standing there. I still feel bitter about his insult. He called me a whore. Although he was extremely helpful, I refuse to be clouded by his few moments of humanness. I expect he will take this opportunity to ask for arrangements to be made to fly his selfish ass to Los Angles right away. I'm not sure if I will make it home on Christmas but my family knows my commitment to helping others and saving lives. My thoughts are of Song and Yea. I will do everything in my power to make sure he is alive by the time he receives the medical care he needs.
"Uh, is there anything I can do to help?" Jungkook says in a softened voice. My head jerks around so fast I might get whiplash. Him help. That prick. I can only believe that the only one his ass wants to help is himself. I want to tell him that it appears an extra seat has opened up and luckily, he has the front compartment to himself. He can return to his, work. Work that he apparently lives for. But I don't say it. The last thing Yea needs is our bickering. It's also unprofessional. Why the fuck does this asshole burn me so bad. The room is silent for a few moments as Yeona is as shocked as I am.
I then answer biting my lip attempting to cloak my true my feelings and thoughts.
"Uh, Mr. Min is stable now. His blood pressure is a bit high, however his respiration in doing well. So, thank you for your offer I say as I turn and plaster a fake smile that I can only hold for a few seconds without vomiting. As I look at him there is a softness about him that was not there before. Even, his voice is different. Gone is his air of arrogance and it bears no harshness. He looks as if he is a different person. He looks sad and concerned, surly it is all an act. Bastards like him don't change. I'll remain with my patient and Yea until we land. That at least should make him happy.
"I'm Yea and this is my husband Song. I don't know your name sir."
"Oh sorry, madame. My name is Jungkook and I'm sorry this happened to your husband. I would like to help in any way I can," Jungkook expresses in a soft voice that is shaky as he clears his throat trying to gain some control. Was he moved or is it all an act? I'm sure he wants something. But what has he to gain?"
Yea reaches up and grabs his hand, unexpectedly. "Jungkook, you have beautiful soft eyes that tell me a lot about your heart," she says stepping closer as she looks as if she is looking into his soul. "You are a good man, but I don't think you know that yet. You have had some pain."
"What?" He says as he slowly draws his hand back. Suddenly this man that has been so calm, cool, and confident appears to unravel as his eyes struggle to focus anywhere but on Yea's. "I'll b-be up front but if you or anyone needs me, I-I will be happy to help." He clears his throat, nods his head, and swiftly retreats to the front cabin.
Yeona and I are both startled by Yea's comment. She is a very special women with a sense and sight that I do not understand yet believe. I have traveled the world; I have been exposed to many cultures and have seen things others would never believe or even consider in this modern age. However, believing that there is an ounce of good in the heart of that man is a stretch for me. But I believe in Yea. I can't help but to feel excited that someone special is coming for me. Once I'm home and with family my eyes will be wide open for my special someone.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.

Modded Skyr*m: Real Life Edition
It seems that I died while I was playing VR Skyr*m. The next thing I knew, I was standing in front of the middle-aged man who called himself The Overlord of Dremora and Dragons. He told me they were releasing Skyr*m: Real-Life Edition. However, you have to be dead first to play it, and I was chosen as a 'beta tester' of sorts. I found myself in a semi-realistic (thanks to mods) world, and I want to have fun and relax for the rest of my life, and maybe get back to Earth. There's just a small *RAWR* problem. Setting: This happens within the world in The Legend of the Fake Hero, specifically two arcs from now. About: I am writing this for fun as a side project. I intend this to be semi-interactive as I will have polls where readers can influence the book's direction. I have the final say because I believe that too many cooks in the kitchen are not a good thing. The plan is to write it in parts that are around 1-2k words. Typically around every 3 to 6 parts, they will be combined into a finalized chapter and re-edited for a smoother read. Release schedule: When I feel like it. I'll be more inclined to write if there is more interaction, both in comments and polls, towards the story. However, I will be focusing on The Legend of the Fake Hero because that is something I own entirely and enjoy. I will try to do consistent uploads. Disclaimer: This work falls under fair use as it is a partial parity, does not affect the value of the original work, is an original story within the setting (within my setting), and is not being sold. All IP belongs to their respective owners (including myself). Currently uploading on Scribble Hub and Royal Road under the same username.
