《Need A Bandage For That?, Ukai X Reader》1 First day, first meeting

I was fresh out of college and recently moved to a new town. I had unpacked almost everything but boxes were still scattered around the small house.
Monday is supposed to be my first day as the new school nurse at Karasuno High. The town of Karasuno was pretty small and seemed rural but I was lucky to find a job so quickly after my graduation so I couldn't complain.
I didn't know anybody here and wasn't quite familiar with the arrangement of the town but you couldn't possibly get lost in such a small town, right?.
...
Turns out I was wrong. The confidence got the best of me as I was happily making my way through the narrow alleys without looking at any signs.
"Wait...this seems familiar." I stopped and observed my surroundings. The sign hanging over the small shop read Sakanoshita Market. I didn't notice the sign before but I definitely walked past this store before.
I furrowed my eyebrows.
I was thinking if I should navigate my way back and start from the beginning or just do what I did until now and hope I'll somehow turn out at the school.
As I was weighing my choices, a sudden gust of wind whooshed past me, and with the dink of the store door, two figures ran inside.
"Are those school uniforms?" I said to myself watching the two figures stand frozen while being yelled at by the store owner.
I should ask them if they're from Karasuno High, I decided. But before I made a step into the store the two boys ran out and disappeared into an alley.
A sigh escaped my mouth as my option for finding my way to work just ran away from me.
Wait...
I looked towards the store at the owner who was grumpily talking to himself while unpacking some instant ramen onto the shelves.

"Uh...hello." I shyly said as I entered with another dink of the automatic door.
"Morning." He grunted while keeping his attention on the shelving task.
I stood there for a minute expecting him to ask if I needed anything but my expectations weren't met.
"Um, could you help me?" I took a step toward him and he finally turned to me.
"Yeah, what do ya need?" He sounded a bit annoyed like I was interrupting him in something personal.
What also surprised me was his casual way of talking to his customers. But after I saw the interaction he had with the two students I shouldn't be surprised.
His strong appearance accompanied with the intimidating gaze made me anxious. What wasn't matching the scary aura was the store apron he was wearing.
"Hey, so what is it." He barked and crouched to my level, his eyebrows furrowing.
Too intimidating.
A shiver ran down my spine.
"I...where is the Karasuno High?" I quickly spat out, wanting to get it over with.
He looked a bit confused by my question.
"Huh? It's just a couple of streets from here." He put his hands on his hips.
I looked at him helplessly. This didn't help one bit. I didn't want to tell him that I was probably circling the area for 30 minutes and didn't find it and made him think I was dumb...which I was but I didn't need other people to think that.
He must have noticed my pleading look because a groan escaped his mouth.
"Ugh, I wanted to take a smoke break anyway, come with me." He took the cigarette which was previously resting behind his ear and went to the door.
I quickly scurried behind him while giving him a faint 'thank you'.

As we walked a cloud of awkward silence hung above us.
"I'm Y/N by the way." My hand shot up for him to shake.
He looked at me and then at my hand.
"Ukai."
My hand was still hovering in the air and as he noticed he added.
"My hands are dirty from the store."
A small 'ah' of realization escaped my lips and I put my hand back to my side.
Another wave of silence engulfed us until Ukai coughed. I didn't know if it was from the cigarette or if it was to ease the awkwardness.
"So what are you looking for in school. You seem too old to be a student." He noted while observing me.
"Haha, yeah my student days are over. I'm the new school nurse and it's my first day...It's a bit embarrassing getting lost on your first day of work." I chuckled.
He nodded acknowledging my concerns.
"Nobody remembers their first day of work so I wouldn't worry."
He suddenly stopped making me glance between him and where he was looking.
It was a school!
My eyes widened and I smiled.
"Thank you, thank you so much!" I was repeatedly bowing to him, I was so excited.
He clearly wasn't ready to get such gratitude from me so he just awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.
"Yeah, yeah. You find your way now, right?"
"Yes!" I straightened up.
I looked at my watch and my eyes widened once again.
"Oh god, I just have two minutes." I immediately turned around and started quickly walking towards the school gates, giving Ukai one last wave.
