《[Adrift] WilburSoot X Reader》Chapter 14 - [i'm tired here's a chapter]

Y/n tries desperately for the next few days to talk to both Wilbur and Tommy. Wilbur was ignoring her altogether, and her roommate was still trying his best.
Eventually though, her desperation just turns into anger. She was sick of trying to talk to them after several days. She was mad at Tommy for acting the way he was and mad at Wilbur for just flat out ghosting her like they didn't know each other.
But it wouldn't matter as much by tomorrow.
Getting a last minute international flight wasn't easy. Y/n's mother had tried to get it as soon as possible, but that ended up being almost a full week after the phone call. Each day the anxiety Y/n felt was only growing. She was exhausted both physically from a lack of sleep and self-care.
Grieving does that to a person though. Her mother had called to tell her that her grandfather had passed away. It was natural causes, yes, but that didn't make it hurt any less.
Y/n had been close with her grandparents. Her grandma had died when she was much younger, but she had still stayed close with her grandpa after that. Even if he was a brutally honest-type, and sometimes came off as rude, he really did care. She knew that she could go to him for anything and he would listen.
The thought of him being gone hurt her every time.
Even rolling out of bed was becoming harder. But after hitting snooze about nine times, she finally grows tired of the continuous ringing of her alarm.
Y/n walks out into the kitchen and makes a cup of tea for herself. As she's sitting on the counter edge drinking it, Tommy ends up coming out of the office.
There's a brief period of tense eye contact before she finally looks away.
"Morning..." She mumbles
"Oh...hi..." Tommy replies with a significant level of awkwardness.
Y/n slides off of the counter edge, then continues on as she walks towards her room. "I'm going back home for a few days, you'll have to take care of Bug,"

"Wait- what?" He seems to snap into being focused on her words. "Why?"
"None of your business,"
Tommy opens his mouth to speak, but hesitates a moment longer before speaking. "Why are you just dropping this on me now?"
"I've tried to tell you, but you haven't talked to me in days," Y/n shoots back, pausing in the doorway to her room.
"You could have texted me or something,"
"Would you have actually looked if I sent you a message?"
"...When will you be back?"
"I'll only be gone 3 days. Just don't burn the place down while I'm gone,"
With that, she closes the bedroom door and abruptly cuts off the rest of the conversation. She wasn't in the mood to talk to him.
Y/n sits back in bed with her laptop open to keep herself busy. It was what she had been doing most of the past few days to protect herself from her racing thoughts. Something it felt like there were so many thoughts running through her head that it became too loud and overwhelming to manage. She didn't want to have to deal with that.
As she's working, she gets a Discord notification from none other than her roommate.
> Tommyinnit: can we talk?
> U/n: i don't want to talk to you
> Tommyinnit: please
> U/n: leave me alone
Y/n mutes her notifications and continues typing away at her keyboard, unwilling to try and focus on anything else.
-
Tommy was starting to feel bad after a while. He hated walking on egg shells around Y/n, and Wilbur too. His other friend had been a ghost for the past several days.
He didn't want Y/n to leave, even if it was just for a few days. Not before he apologized at least.
Tommy sends messages to her through text and Discord, but she doesn't seem to see them, or at least she just wouldn't reply.
The thought of her and Wilbur dating had made him uncomfortable at first. It was awkward to have his older siblings together. But after sitting on the thought for a while, he realized that he would rather have Y/n date someone he knew, and vice-versa for Wilbur. Maybe it was for the better if they were with each other.

But now it might be too late for them to be together. Neither of his friends were talking to him. Granted, he had been ignoring them as well. Wilbur had tried to talk to him the day after, but Tommy had blown him off just like he had done to Y/n.
He decides to sleep on it a while. Flopping down onto his temporary bed, his mind lulls him into the idea of a late-afternoon nap. It reminds him that he hadn't been sleeping as well as he would have wanted to.
Only for a second, his eyes drift shut. Just a few minutes of sleep, then he would try and talk to Y/n again.
But a few minutes of sleep ends up lasting until the sun is blasting him through the open office window. Tommy staggers up out of bed, still half-dazed, to draw the curtains shut.
Once the room turns back into a cave, he grabs his phone off of it's plug nearby to check the time.
8 AM? Already?
Tommy exits the office and goes to the door of Y/n's room, only to find the door ajar. He knocks softly in hopes of receiving a response.
When nothing comes, he pushes the door the rest of the way open. Bug was stretched out asleep on her bed, but Y/n was no where in sight.
Is she gone...?
It doesn't take him long to find a note stuck to the fridge.
"Dear Tommy. Please make sure Bug's dry food bowl is full each morning. He gets half a can of wet food at night. Also clean his litter box once a day, and try not to burn the apartment down. Seriously, I kinda like living here. I fly back in on Saturday at 9 PM. There's food in the fridge. We're talking when I get back. - Y/n"
"Dammit..." Tommy murmurs.
He stares down at his phone a while before opening Wilbur's contact, praying that he would pick up.
-
Y/n didn't like long flights. They only made her feel stressed and sick to her stomach. When she had first flown into England to move, it had been better since she was excited to be there.
But she wasn't very excited to be going home. Plus her pre-existing sour mood only made it worse.
Her overall travel day is at least 16 hours. Her layovers between flights seemed to pass by sluggishly. It also isn't a help at all when she doesn't manage to sleep on her longer trans-Atlantic flight.
Y/n finally makes it to Virginia after far too long. She almost forgets her name going through customs and, at first, picks up the wrong suitcase from the carousel. By the time she steps out into the open airport she wanted to disappear into the void and never be seen again.
It was strange hearing American accents again. That and seeing so many fast food and retail stores crammed into every major street. It almost felt like a culture shock.
While she's waiting on a curbside bench for her mother to pick her up from the airport, her phone begins vibrating from a call. It surprises her for a moment that Wilbur was finally trying to call her back, but that surprise is quickly replaced with annoyance as she hangs up on him after a few rings.
She felt too salty all of a sudden to talk to him. That and she was too exhausted to try and deal with the problem of him and Tommy.
Y/n silences her phone and pulls her knees close to her chest. She wanted things to back to normal again, but that felt like an impassable ask.
Just focus on looking for mom's car...that's all you can do for now...

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
