"Mor'du, Mor'du, now the time has come for all of us to slaughter you. Hooray! Mor'du, Mor'du..."
King Fergus was standing in the throne room with all the clans and leading them in song about killing Mor'du.
...
Merid and (Y/n) peeked through the door that led to the kitchens to find it empty. They quietly crept in, and Merid set the cake down on the counter. He then lifted (Y/n) onto the counter by her waist.
"Stay there. I'll take care of everything."
Merid prepared a lot of tea, and placed the cake on a plate along with some blueberries, and a flower. He placed all these things on a tray and prepared to take it to his mother. (Y/n) hopped off the counter and started to follow them, when a door opened behind them.
"Merid! (Y/n)!" It was Queen Elinor.
"Mum! Ooh, uh...I, uh..." Merid stammered.
"Oh, I've been worried sick." Elinor told them.
"You...You we're?"
Elinor came up and grabbed his shoulders.
"I didn't know where you two had gone or when you'd come back. I didn't know what to think. Oh, look at both of your clothes." She fussed.
"Oh. Angus threw us. But we're not hurt."
(Y/n) reassured.
"Well, you're both home now, so that's the end of it."
"Honestly?" Merid asked in shock.
"I've pacified the lords for now. Your father's out there 'entertaining' them." Elinor chuckled.
...
"Of course we both know a decision still has to be made." Elinor spoke hesitantly and clasped her hands together.
Merid sighed in frustration before grabbbing the plate with the cake on it and holding it out for her.
"What's this?" Elinor asked.
"It's a peace offering. I made it. For you. Special." Merid explained.
"You made this for me?" Elinor asked in disbelief.

She took the fork and took a bite of the cake.
"Mm." She hummed in delight before it change to a look of disgust. "Oh, interesting flavor."
"How do you feel?" Merid asked.
"What...What is that?"
"Different?"
"Mm...Tart and, um, gamy." Elinor gagged.
"Have you changed your mind at all about the marriage and all that?" Merid asked hopefully.
Elinor wasn't listening. She took a huge gulp of tea to get rid of the taste and gargled it a bit.
"Oh, that's better." She breathed, before straightening back up. "Now, why don't we go upstairs to the lords, and put this whole kerfuffle to rest? Hm."
Elinor and Merid started to make their way upstairs with (Y/n) following close behind them.
They almost made it to the throne room when Elinor suddenly got dizzy and lent against the wall.
"Mother?"
"My Lady?"
Merid and (Y/n) rushed to Elinor's side in concern.
"I'm woozy suddenly." She announced. "My heads spinning like a top. Ooh!" She doubled over in pain.
"Mum!" Merid grabbed her arm to keep her from collapsing.
"Oh, suddenly I'm not so well."
"Er...how...how do you feel about the marriage now?" Merid asked her.
"Merid!" (Y/n) snapped at him. This was not the time.
"Oh, just take me to my room." Elinor said.
Merid and (Y/n) stood on either side of the Queen and supported her through the throne room.
Meanwhile, some men had set a fake bear statue on top of King Fergus's throne.
"That's good, that's good. It's good enough. Now, clear out of there boys. I don't want you to spoil my shot." Fergus said.
Merid and (Y/n) were leading Elinor up the stairs, but we're interrupted by the three lords.

"My Lady Queen. We've been waiting patiently." The announced.
"Milords, I am out of sorts at the moment. But you shall have your answer." Elinor let out a large burp, and everyone stared at her in shock. "Presently. Now if you'll excuse us." She groaned.
Fergus shot an arrow and the stuffed bear and hit it right on the nose. The room cheered.
"Elinor look! It's Mor'du." Fergus laughed, before noticing his wife's sickness. "Elinor? Are you alright, dear?" He asked.
"Fine. I'm fine. Go about avenging your leg. Oh." She reassured.
"Aye. You heard her lads.I dream about the perfect way to make this devil die." Fergus grabbed an axe and threw it at the bears head.
...
(Y/n) pulled the covers over Elinor who was moaning in pain.
"Just take all the time you need to getting yourself right, mum. Then maybe in a bit you might have something new to say on the marriage." Merid said.
(Y/n) sent him a look that said, 'I told you this was a bad idea!'
"What was in that cake?" Elinor moaned.
"Cake." Merid scoffed.
Elinor groaned and rolled off of her bed in pain.
"Mum?" No answer.
"My Lady, are you alright?" (Y/n) was starting to get worried.
"So, I'll just tell them the wedding's off then?" Merid said.
(Y/n) punched him in the arm.
"Ow!" Merid rubbed his arm.
"I knew this was a bad idea! We never should have trusted that witch, and now we've killed your mother!" (Y/n) whisper yelled at him.
"Oh relax! She's not dead! ...Probably..."
The two were interrupted by Elinor making groaning sounds.
"Mum?" Merid and (Y/n) went to the other side of the bed where Elinor had rolled off.
Her whole body was covered by her blankets and she shuffled around for a moment before standing up, but something was off. Elinor was much taller than usual and towered over Merid and (Y/n). Finally the blanket gave away to reveal Elinor, but she wasn't a human anymore. She was a bear!
The bear turned around to face them, and Merid and (Y/n) screamed and fell back in shock. They backed away from the bear until they hit the wall. Merid practically threw himself in front of (Y/n) to protect her from the bear.
Elinor stumbled around for a moment, completely disoriented.
"Bear!" (Y/n) shouted.
Elinor looked around and saw the shadow of her bear self and yelled, falling down to where Merid and (Y/n) were and throwing her arm out to protect them. Elinor looked at the two and roared, causing them to scream.
Elinor flinched before looking down and noticing she had paws. She then felt her face and muzzle before reaching into her drawers and pulling out a mirror to look at herself.
She roared in surprise, backing away and falling onto her bed, breaking it. She stumbled out of the bed frame and knocked over her wardrobe, and then pulled a tapestry off the wall.
"Mum?" Merid asked hesitantly.
"You're...you're a bear!" (Y/n) cried.
"Why a bear? Oh, that scaffy witch have us a gammy spell." Merid complained.
Elinor looked up and glared at him.
"It's not my fault. I didn't ask her to change you into a bear. I just wanted her to change...you." Merid said, realizing his mistake.
Elinor let out a thunderous roar in his face.
...
Downstairs, Fergus heard the roar and paused.
"Shh. Did you hear that?" He asked, and started sniffing the air. "Something's not right."

Runicka: Tournament of Monsters (A GameLit Card Game Fantasy)
The runes are changing, and with it, the game itself changes. Taygion Ardwella finds himself stranded, alone, and on the run from some very determined guards who claim Tay's stolen from them. They're right, but that shouldn't mean Tay has to give back what he took. He's only been in Stormwall for a week and already, he's earning the ire of the most powerful and notorious House that controls the city's underground. And when their scion challenges Tay to a duel of cards, Tay will find himself thrust into a game of sorcery and strategy as he attempts to both find a way out of this mess and find his own way in the world. To do both, he'll need to learn to accept guidance and coaching where it's sorely needed, craft a deck of unimaginable power, and not die whenever his opponents try and cheat him out of a hard-earn victory. But not all is as it seems in the shadows of Stormwall, and if Tay can figure out the importance of what it is he's stolen, he may just have a chance at saving the game of Runicka. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Runicka: Tournament of Monsters is a high fantasy, card game-based adventure novel with enough magic, worldbuilding, and characters to fill a Sanderson series. I would consider it a part of the GameLit subgenre. This series in particular is not an isekai, and will start and end in a high fantasy setting complete with its own lore and backstory. It is a progression fantasy, and I am writing it inspired by all the Yu-Gi-Oh mangas/animes, and all the hours I've invested/wasted (depending on who you ask) playing TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a work in progress. In your journey through Stormwall alongside Tay, you'll probably find typos, grammatical errors, and maybe a confusing sentence every once in a while (although I hope to keep these to a minimum). That said, comments and suggestions on where I can improve are not only encouraged but greatly appreciated. And finally, expect new chapters every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**Currently on a small hiatus. I have a bit of a workplace crisis going on. I'm still writing, but I don't have time to polish and publish. Chapters will return on a regular basis soon though!!**
