{Anaya}
"One, Two, Three, SURPRISE" The blindfold was stripped from my over my eyes. Light shinned through as everything in site went clear to vision. There stood my family and friends, the ones I still had left in my life. Familiar faces stood out to me. Nike, Moms, Mesha, Tory.
"Surprise girl" Ashley spoke getting hype. Pink and blue decorations filled the room. 'Boy or Girl' a black ballon wrote.
Okay... Let me explain.
Last week was my 20 week appointment, Ashley decided to tag along with me because of course, she wanted to know the gender. I didn't want to know at the time, I was honestly nervous to find out. So me and Ashley decided that she would know, and i would find out later when I was ready. I didn't think she would that and run with it though, sneaking and planning a whole gender reveal In less than a week. I mean I love and appreciate her for it but I don't deserve it. What a 13 year old look like celebrity bringing life to this world at her gender reveal?
"You so sneaky" I spoke crossing my arms. A smile slid across my face. The decorations was cute, and she had all the bomb snacks on the food table.
"I know" she said smiling hard. "Come on girl, let me show you around" before I could even could even collect my thoughts, Ashley grabbed my wrist, dragging me through the large building. This girl better be lucky I was looking cute, over here bringing me in front of all these folks.
She led me threw the building showing me all the decorations. From the balloons, to the snack table.
It was just beautiful. Pink and blue balloons decorated the entry door. Champagne glasses filled with sparkling cider topped with with pink and blue colored sugar around the rim. The real stuff was in the back! Colored confetti filled the floor as we walked. Just beautiful, everything was amazing and nicely detailed.
Walking around with her, I tried keeping up.
"Ash slow down" I said as I made my way throughout the crowd. "Excuse me" I yelled, tryna speak over the music blasting through the loud speakers.
A tall gentleman stood in my way. He turned around, making eye contact with me. "Sorry ma"
My body went cold as he spoke with his raspy deep voice. He moved to the side creating space. Glancing up and down at him, he was taller than I expected.
"You see something you like?" Darvis stood there licking his juicy plum lips. He was dressed in a black long sleeved graphic tee, with flared out light washed denim jeans. Gold chains dangled from his neck as he continued talking. I wasn't listening to word he was saying.
"I gotta go, excuse me" I blurted out. I couldn't stand there any longer, my heart raced out my chest as I bolted, making my through the crowd.
Anxiety quickly attacked my mind. I began exiting in and out of reality as random flashbacks began playing in my head like a movie.
[Flashback]
"No, get off me" I moaned as he left deep stormed in and out of my pearl.

"Shh ma, chill" he whispered pinning my arms above my head. I was too weak to fight, I honestly didn't know if I wanted to. I wanted him to stop but something else in me wanted him to keep going.
{Flashback over}...
I came too, still shoving my way through people. I didn't even realize I made it halfway through the building.
"Ashley" I shouted spotting her from a distance. "Ashley!" I made my way over to her, instantly clinging onto her wrist.
"Hey I was looking for you, wassup?" She had confusion and concerns plastered across her face
"Ashley..did you...why is Darvis here?" I spoke, stuttering as my words came flowing out. Ashley went white as a ghost. So I we know she wasn't put up to it.
She lifted her brows, skimming through the crowed. "I didn't invite him Anaya" she said still shooting her eyes back and forth. There wasn't many people, everyone was just packed together which made it even harder to see.
My body started to come to ease, maybe he left.
"Just try to avoid him if you do spot him. Calm down your stressing out my baby" Ashley spoke, rubbing my tiny bump. I nodded my head up and down agreeing.
"Or don't..." Ashley tapped my shoulder, pointing over to a tall figure approaching our direction. There stood Darvis. Step by step he got closer and closer. My heart began racing, soon sinking to my ass as he walked up. Stopping in front of us
"Hey, can we talk?" Darvis pointed my way reassuring me that he was talking to me.
"Imma excuse myself, you too talk. Behave" Ashley pointed right at me. I always behave I don't know what she talking bout. She need to be telling the nappy headed ass niggas standing right in front of us that.
Ashley excused herself, tiptoeing away.
"So wassup" I said, my hands where shaking, shit my whole body was shaking. I don't know why this dude bothered me so bad, but he did.
"You wanna go somewhere more, private?" He asked, fidgeting with his fingers
"Yeah, sure"
He took my hand, guiding me over to the empty kitchen. So much open space, enough if a bitch gotta take off.
"I'm sure you already know what I came here to talk about" he said, sparking the conversation
"Mhm" I nodded my up and down slowly. I didn't even wanna make eye contact with this dude. I couldn't even look him in the eye.
"Aye, what happened, happened. We can't take it back, and I one hundred percent own up to my actions. Am I ready to somebody's father, hell no. Do I want the baby to be mine, I'm not even gonna lie hell no. But it still possibly could be, imma be here for that child during these last few months. And through blood, if that babies mine imma be here for the rest of its god given life in this earth." His words calmed me. I looked up at him, by then tears was formed up in my eyes. I quickly wiped them away, hiding my pain.

"Awe, you crying punk" Darvis shot a charming smile my way as he laughed.
"Boy please, thugs don't cry" I joked fixing my face. "Anyway, you won't have to worry bout all that. I'm not keeping it, I'm currently looking for a nice family to adopt he or she. It's kinda hard to decide" I said looking back and forth from him to the floor.
"That's cool, that don't mean I change my mind bout any of what I just said. imma still hold you down throughout yo pregnancy tho. You and that baby gon forever be straight. I laid down and did what I did, now I'm paying for it. With cash" he joked trying to lighten up the mood.
I rolled my eyes, laughing. He has a nice since of humor. I still don't trust his ass one bit though.
"Alright, everybody gather around" my mom tapped her glass in her hand with a small metal spoon, getting my attention. Without saying a word I found my way out the kitchen.
Moms was standing in the living section of the house holding up a half filled glass of what looked like champagne.
Once a large enough crowd formed around, she began speaking.
"I wanna give a toast to my beautiful babygirl. She's getting so big now, when I think of her at the age of 13 I never imagined this. I never wanted her to walk down that same road I went, but god allows things to happen in his children's life for a purpose. I love my child either way, I will always love my child and there is nothing that can break that love." Tears were flowing down her face at this point. Shit tears were flowing down mine as well.
"No matter what, I will always be here for you. Through the good times and bad times. Your growing up, and In a few months you will be a mommy to a beautiful health baby. Not only will you bless another family with this child but you will bless your child with the most amazing gift you can give, life. Just keep ya head up sweetheart, days are gonna get brighter." She dropped her arm, taking a long sip of her champagne as people cheered her on.
"Alright now can we pop this ballon" Ashley said tryna wrap up the beautiful moment.
"Hater" I clapped back, sticking my tongue out her way.
"Whatever" she said rolling her eyes, laughing.
Moms came from out the crowd holding a large black ballon. My heart began racing as I knew, I would soon find out what I am growing inside.
"Come one baby" moms spoke taking my hand.
"Aright everyone, we gon count down form three, then you pop it" Ashley said, whipping out her phone pointing the camera my direction.
"You ready?" moms handed me a sharp pen. Hesitant to answer, I nodded my head up and down.
"THREE, TWO, ONE"
Glancing into the crowd one last time. Mesha and Tory were already in tears before the pen even came close to the ballon. Nike and Darvis were just watching, a smile shot across Nikes face as we made eyes contact.
"Girl go " Ashley yelled making me break concentration.
POP!!!
The crowd jumped up and screamed as colored confetti flew everywhere.
{Chris}
Later that night...
Pulling into the driveway, I killed the engine.
'Come outside' I typed before sending.
Not even a few seconds later, Ashley stepped through the front door making her way over to the car.
"Hey" she greeted, as she slid into the passenger seat.
"Wassup" I spoke, adjust my mirror.
"Alright, I'm not finna sugar coat shit. Wassup with you and my cousin?" She asked. She shot her body my direction waiting for my response.
"What you mean?" I asked, lifting a brow.
"Nigga you know wassup, you know it could possibly be yo baby. You laid down and did the deed now own up to yo shit" she snapped, she was coming at a nigga real strong.
"Look, ion want nothing to do with that shit, moms gon kill me. I ain't gon have nowhere to go" I snapped back, throwing my hands as I spoke
"Well you better hope that ain't yo baby then" Ashley rolled her eyes giving nothing but attitude.
"You right it better not be" I said shooting an attitude right back.
"And what's gon happen if it is? Huh? The fuck you gon do." I swear if this bitch get in my face I'm smacking the fye outta her. I have all respect for Trey but damn, his bitch pushing buttons.
"Mane chill out, ain't nobody gon do nun to that little bald head ass girl." I said. This bitch was spazzing out for no reason.
"Mhm. Look, the least you can do is do a DNA test. Anaya's not even keeping the baby, she's giving it up for adoption. I can convince her to take a test, end things off on a better note." She did have a point though, I can't just knock a bitch up then leave lil mamma to clean up the mess. It would be right to at least end things out on a good note. Shit and if I am the father, at least she know who her baby daddy was.
I nodded my head up and down agreeing. "Ight fine, but don't expect me to be buddy buddy with the bitch. I'm not about to kiss her ass." I said glancing back over in Ashley's direction
"Thank you" she said trying to be petty. She hopped out the car, closing the car door behind her.
"Aye Chris" Ashley said, bending over resting her elbows against my rolled down window.
"Wassup" I spoke lifting my chin up
"Dont ever let the word bitch come outta mouth in the same sentence if my cousins name is in it, okay! She ain't wanna these little thots you be fucking off the side of streets, far from it" she replied, before turning around. Walking away.
Lord Jesus, please help me...

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
