I know the end of this seems a little rushed, but when looking through Hau's eyes, it must have seemed to end really quickly for him. He only got a day to see her, and when you're having fun, time flies.
Enjoy.
The smell of coffee penetrated the crisp morning air, the natural hum of bustling life just an everyday part of this place. The alluring decor always seemed to lure the tourists, but it seemed that there was finally a calming lull in the busy cafe.
A green-haired boy worked at the dishes in the back of the shop, scrubbing them until they sparkled. For most, doing the cafe's dishwork was groan inducing, but for the enthusiastic boy, it made his eyes gleam just as much as the silverware.
Doing small jobs around his grandfather's cafe was enough to make him happy. His grandafther, Hala, had run this cozy store for as long as he could remember, and ever since he was small, Hala had let him help around the shop.
"Hau," a stoic man opened the door into the kitchen, his familiar yellow shirt and wide grin making Hau smile, "I need you to work the register. The shop isn't as lively as earlier, so Lana is taking her break now." He explained.
"Got it." Hau replied, washing his hands and putting on his apron before heading to the front of the shop.
Hau took a deep breath as the fragrance of coffee washed over him. He always found coffee's thick aroma relaxing.
Not to say he didn't like the smell of all the simmering food in the kitchen, but the nostalgia that coffee brought held a deeper place in his heart.
Although, he did really love the Malasadas.
"What would you like?" Hau asked a woman as she stode up to the counter with her child.
"Hello Hau! I'll have the usual." she said smiling at him.
Most of the people that came into the cafe, that weren't tourists of course, knew Hau and his grandfather. The actual population of the city wasn't nearly as much as any of the other cities on the island, and he knew everyone in the city by face and name.
Their city being a little on the small side, didn't change the fact that they were still on the most popular island in Hawaii, but it didn't really bother Hau much.
He preferred to look on the bright side. He got to meet a lot of different people while he worked here, from all over the world. Tourists of every kind had come to Hala's cafe, that was just another reason for him to love working here.
After Hau finished preparing their order, he passed it over the counter to them, "One Cherri Berry Latte for the Mrs. And one Tapu Cocoa for the little island champ." He chuckled as the little girl took the drink from her mom.
"Watch out, it's a little hot." he told the girl, who then nodded and proceed to blow on her drink while her mother helped her find a table to sit at.
Hau greeted and served a couple other people, before Hala yelled to him from the kitchen, "After this next customer you can go ahead and take your break, Hau."
"Okay, thanks!" he shouted back, returning his attention to the customer Hala had mentioned.
His onyx colored eyes met with brilliant emerald ones. Hau could've sworn he felt something physically tug at his chest for a moment.
A girl with stunning blond hair, wearing a white sundress and a hat that matched. He felt like she should have a prestigious and knowing air about her, but he was spruced to find that, based on the look she wore on her face, she was very lost.

"Uh-um, excuse me." one of her hands that was holding the bag she carried let go and began to nervously push some of her hair behind her ear.
"What can I do for you?" Hau gave her a genuine smile, he found that it was always good to reassure lost tourists with a friendly face. He greeted everyone else with a friendly face anyway though, so that helped too.
She stared at him blankly for a second, her hand still pushing her hair back. When she realized she had been staring for a while, her face grew red and her eyes flitted frantically around the room.
"Uh, ah yes. I just, I mean, I would like to order a plain coffee." she said taking a breath of relief when she finally got it out.
Hau did his best not to chuckle, the girl was clearly shaken. He didn't want to risk making it any worse by laughing.
"Of course, do you want anything else? The Malasadas here are great!" he boasted, trying to lighten the mood to keep her from getting any more tense.
"Ah, yes please." she said pulling her wallet out of her bag. Hau thought he was seeing things when he saw something shift in her bag, but as she searched through her wallet, he bag continued to shuffle, until a little gray head poked out.
A small puppy poked it's head excitedly put of the bag, looking around at the various people around it. It's nose twitched as it took in all the scents around it. It's eyes brimming with excitement.
The blond gasped, "Nebby, get back in the back!" she whispered truing to usher the already over-stimulated dog back into the bag.
"Hey, we allow dogs, as long as he doesn't bite. We actually have food that we serve to the tourists dogs whenever they bring them." Hau reassured her, leaning on the counter, "Actually, we have a chef in the back who particularly likes making the food, she might make it free of charge if you let her pet it." He said before leaning close to whisper, "She's kinda an animal fanatic, if you ask me." Hau chuckled.
The girl's eyes lit up, "Really? It's not a problem?"
The green haired boy nodded, Mallow did like dogs, but she didn't really have the power to give people free food because of it. Hau knew that, but this girl was having a rough time, he could pay for at least this much to make her day a little easier.
He took her money and put it in the register, sliding a five dollar bill out of his pocket and adding it to the register as well.
"The food will be out in a minute. I'll bring it to your table." he said before heading into the kitchen.
"Mallow, can you make some of that dog special you love to make? There's a really cute one in the hall, the owner said she would let you pet it." he told her and she practically exploded in front of him.
"On it!" she saluted, leaving Hau in the dust.
"Kiawe, can you whip up a Malasada real quick?" he shouted to the fiery haired man that did the cooking.
"Lunchtime already?" Kiawe laughed, "You're lucky, a fresh batch just finished up."
"It's not for me, it's for a customer, but if you want to buy me one then sure!" Hau retorted back, laughing as well.
"Not in a million years, I've got better stuff to do with my money than to waste it on trying to fill that Malasadas abyss of yours." he said handing Hau the Malasada.

Hau poured a cup of normal coffee and the small rack they put cream and sweeteners on, and put them on a tray with the Malasada, before carrying it over to the booth that the girl had seated herself in.
"One Malasada, and one normal coffee. Here's some sweeteners and cream if you want them. The food for you dog will be out shortly." he said placing the food and drink on the table.
She nodded and absentmindedly said thanks, her brows furrowed in concentration as she stared at a map she had pulled up on her phone. Ha thought for a moment, he was trying to find a polite way to ask her if she was lost. He decided after a couple seconds to just go ahead and try to make it sound as good as he could.
"Umm, not to be rude ma'am, but do you need help? You looked kinda lost earlier." he said, mentally slapping himself in the face, he didn't mean for it to make her sound like an idiot.
From the way her face turned bright red, he could tell that she was more than a little embarrassed. Her hand began to brush back her hair again.
"Wa-was I that obvious?" she buried her face in her hands.
"Uh-no, I didn't mean it like that miss, please don't be embarrassed. A lot of tourists find themselves turned around when it comes to this town." he tried to fix his mistake as best he could.
"Oh." she said plainly, probably feeling MORE embarrassed that she had misinterpreted what he had said.
"I don't want to bother you while you work." she said, obviously she was just being nice, because a glint of hope that he would stay and help her glimmered in her eyes.
"Actually, you're my last customer, Lana just finished her break." he said, casually pointing to the blue haired girl behind the register who was taking another customer's order.
"Thank goodness." she sighed under her breath, "I guess I am a bit lost." she chuckled nervously.
An awkward silence fell over the two for a second, but it didn't last for long when Hau heard inhumane squealing behind him. His head whipped around and Mallow was jumping behind him, trying not to spill the dog food in her excitement.
She set the bowl on the floor, "Can I pet him? Or is it a her? What kind of dog is it? It's so cute!" the blond was bombarded with questions and frankly she looked like it was too much.
"Whoa Mallow, back up give her some air." Hau laughed goading the hyperactive girl to take a step back.
"I-its all right. Yes you can pet him, it's a boy, I don't know what kind of dog it is, and thank you I suppose he is really cute." the girl answered after regaining a foothold on the conversation. For some reason, Hau saw a glimpse of excitement in the blonds eyes for a moment. He supposed it was because she had answered all the questions.
Mallow spent a good minute petting the dog, who she had learned was named Nebby, and finally decided to go back to the kitchen. She grabbed Hau's shoulder as she left, saying something low enough that the blond tourist couldn't hear, "Found yourself a good one there, haven't you? Better treat her nice."
"I'm just giving her directions, keep you and your shipping to yourself. Besides, you and Kiawe there seem like your pretty close, just gonna let that get away?" Hau shot back, Mallow pouted and lightly punched the green haired boy in the arm who scratched the back of his head in a sort of 'sorry-not-sorry' way.
He waved Mallow off, giving her his apron as she left, and he turned back to the tourist, "So, where are you headed?" he asked, "Oh, mind if I sit down?"
"Oh yes, sorry." she apologized, gesturing to the booth across from herself. The onyx eyed boy gladly took a seat, patting his legs so Nebby would join him. He placed Nebby's bowl on the seat and let him start eating.
"By the way, my name is Hau, nice to meet you!" he extended an arm across the table.
"My name is Lillie, the pleasure is all mine." she shook his hand with hers.
Her hand was small and delicate against his own, her skin a light pale color, high in contrast to his own, much darker skin. Now that he thought about it, everything about her seemed almost ethereal, and graceful. Her long blond hair, emerald green eyes, snow white skin, and even the accent she had that clearly proved that she wasn't from around here.
People here were a little more rugged, they loved to be in the sun. Most had at least some build to them.
She was exactly as her name described, a beautiful lily, and Hau was getting lost himself as he looked into her eyes. He let go of her hand, although begrudgingly, and rested his head on his palm with an elbow on the table.
"My mom was really vague on instructions. She just said to meet her at the building where she was holding her company showcasing. I got sort of turned around, I'm pretty sure I'm not even in the right town." she said messing with her hands sheepishly.
Hau pulled out his phone, pulling up a map of the island.
"You're here, in Melemele." He pointed to a small speck on the map, "Did your mother say anything about any of these cities?" he slid his phone to her, letting her take a look.
She shook her head in disappointment.
"No offense to your mom, but why would she leave her daughter to wander the island by herself? That seems kinda rude in my opinion." Hau pouted looking back at the map, she had said something about a showcase, so maybe he could go off of that.
"She was, um, very busy this morning. She was in a huge rush so I guess she forgot to specify any details." a hand began to push stray hairs behind her ear once again, and Hau was beginning to pick up the fact that it was a quirky behavior that meant she was nervous.
"What company does she work for? If she's doing a presentation, it might be been on the news." Hau asked, trying to get more information, clearly Lillie's mother wasn't the best mother, letting her child wander around by herself to get lost.
He was kind of thankful though. He got to meet Lillie.
"Oh she works for the Aether organization." Lillie said and Hau nearly did a spit take, he would've if he had had a drink.
"Aether! The big promotion thing they're doing today?! I know exactly where that is! Everyone knows where that is! It's a big deal!" Hau exclaimed. "So you know where it is?" Lillie asked curiously, trying to shy away as he praised her mother's company.
"I mean," Hau was trying to not come off as weird, though he didn't feel like it was working, "I could take you there if you'd like." he shrugged, trying to play it cool.
He looked up and her eyes were lit up like stars, "Really? Because if we could, it'd probably be best if I went right away. Only if that's okay with you though." she stumbled over her words.
She grabbed Nebby, placing him in her bag,
Hau told her he'd be right back before going into the kitchen, "Hey, Gramps! Can I borrow the car? Another lost tourist!" he shouted.
"Yeah sure just be careful." he heard back.
They got in his grandfather's car, Lillie was starting to open up to him. In the car they laughed and joked, Lillie let out a loud laugh at some point and it made Hau melt. The more time he spent with this girl, the more he ended up wanting her to stay. He had never met another person like her, and her cute laugh was like a melodic music to him.
Not only was she beautiful, but as he got to know her, she had the personality of an angel. Every chance he got, every stoplight, stop sign, and traffic stop, Hau took all the glances he could get. This would probably be the last time he saw her.
All too soon they had arrived in the city, Lillie was looking out the window, her eyes shining. Hau smiled at her, albeit in more of a bittersweet manner than he intended to, but this whole situation was just like him. He knew he was a little trusting, and a little naive, and to fall so deep for someone he had just met, was probably not something that most people did.
When they arrived, she looked at the building in awe. Then Hau saw another emotion flash through her eyes. She turned to look at him, "Thank you so much. You're the nicest person I've ever met. I don't know many who would go out of their way for someone they just met." she said, her fingers combing through her hair.
Hesitantly she opened the door, looking back one more time at Hau. She pulled out her bag for a second, rustling through it. She pulled out a beautiful necklace, surely it was much more expensive than your average jewelry.
Lille grabbed Hau's hand and placed the necklace in it. Before he could say anything, she hid her eyes and said, "Please, can you give it to me when I come back?" she rushed the words out, Hau almost hadn't caught it.
She leaned in and pressed a kiss on his cheek, before leaving the car and waving bye as she walked into the building.
Hau was left in shock, blaring car horns behind him breaking him put of his stupor.
When he got home, he looked at the necklace. It was a beautiful white flower, it sparkled brilliantly when you held it up to the light. He smiled. One day he'd get to see her again, and he had this necklace to remind him, every day.
