Helen sat back down and placed her headset on.
"India Golf niner-niner transmitting in the blind guard. Disengage. Repeat, disengage."
Helen turned the plane sending Vince, Dash and (Y/n) flying. She launched missiles at the two following the plane.
"Disengage. Repeat, disengage."
The missiles kept following them.
"Friendliest two-zero miles south-southwest of your position. Angels 10. Track East. Disengage."
Helen turned around and looked at Vince, who had an arm around (Y/n) to keep her from getting hurt.
"Vi, you have to put a forcefield around the plane!"
"But you said we weren't supposed to use our powers!"
"I know what I said! Listen to what I am saying now!" Helen yelled.
Dash, Vince, and (Y/n) looked out the window as two missiles were on one side of the plane and one on the other.
"Vince!"
"Mayday. Mayday. India Golf niner-niner is buddy spiked. Abort! Abort! There are children on board."
Helen turned back at Vince. "Put a field around us now!"
"I've never done one that big before!"
"Vince, do it now!" She demanded.
"You can do it Vince!" (Y/n) told him, as she clung to his middle.
"Abort, abort, abort!"
Vince tried to make a forcefield but he was struggling under all the pressure.
"Abort, abort, abort!"
The missiles got closer and closer and eventually Helen threw off her headset and expanded her body to cover all three of the kids.
The plane exploded and Helen, Vince, (Y/n) and Dash started falling towards the ocean. Vince and (Y/n) and their arms wrapped around each other and they were all screaming.
Helen wrapped her limbs around the kids and made her body into a parachute.
"Brace yourselves!"
The four reached the ocean and the three kids were swimming and panicking while Helen tried to calm them down.

"Everybody calm down. Now, I'll tell you what we're not gonna do. We're not gonna panic, we're not...look out!"
She pushed them all underwater as a large chunk of debris fell near them.
Helen emerged to find Vince and Dash freaking out while (Y/n) was too stunned to speak.
"We're dead! We're dead!" Dash whined.
"It blew up!" Vince cried.
"We survived, but we're dead!"
"Stop it!" Helen splashed them both. "We are not gonna die. Now both of you will get a grip, or so help me I will ground you for a month! Understand?"
Helen them looked up at the sky and saw a line of smoke where the missiles came from.
"Those were short range missiles. Land based. That way is our best bet."
"You wanna go toward the people who tried to kill us?" Dash asked.
"If it means land, yes."
"You expect us to swim there?" Vince asked with sarcasm.
"I expect you, to trust me." Helen retorted.
...
Helen transformed herself into a raft and Vince and (Y/n) were sitting on her while Dash used his super speed as a motor.
Vince glanced over at (Y/n) and noticed she was shivering and he hesitantly scooted over and wrapped his arm around her to warm her up. She smiled appreciatively and snuggled into him.
...
A few hours later, the family reached the island, and they all trudged up to the beach and flopped down from exhaustion.
Dash collapsed next to Helen and she looked over at him with a smile.
"What a trooper. I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks mom."
...
They had managed to find a cave to hide in for the night and the four of them were sitting around a fire they had built.

"I think...your father is in trouble." Helen admitted.
"I'd you haven't noticed, mom, we're not doing so hot either." Vince said.
"I'm going to look for him. And that means your in charge until I get back, Vince."
"What?" Dash complained.
"You heard her." Vince bragged.
Helen grabbed a mask and put it on her face and held three more out to the kids.
"Put these on. Your identity is your most valuable possession. Protect it. And if anything goes wrong, use your powers."
"But you said never to use..."
"I know what I said!" She snapped, before calming down.
"Remember the bad guys on those shows you used to watch on Saturday mornings?" She asked.
The three nodded.
"Well, these guys are not like those guys. They won't exercise restraint because you're children. They will kill you if they get the chance. Do not give them that chance."
Vince subconsciously reached his hand out and grabbed (Y/n)'s and squeezed it. He couldn't bare the thought of losing her.
"Dash, if anything goes wrong, I want you to run as fast as you can."
"As fast as I can?" He asks excitedly.
"As fast as you can."
"Stay hidden. Keep each other safe. I'll be back by morning."
Helen ran out of the cave, but was stopped by Vince calling her name.
"Mom, what happened on the plane. I'm sorry. I wanted to help. When you asked me to...I'm sorry."
"Shh. It isn't your fault. It wasn't fair for me to suddenly ask so much of you. But things are different now. And doubt is a lucury we can't afford anymore sweetie. You have more power then you realize. Don't think. And don't worry. If the time comes, you'll know what to do. It's in your blood."
Helen smiled and ran off. Vince looked down at the mask he was holding and put it on. He turned and went back into the cave and sat down next to (Y/n).
"Hey, are you okay?" She asked.
Vince nodded. "Yeah, yeah I'm ok."
"Good." She smiled and went back to glancing at the fire.
Vince looked down at her and smiled. Then he glanced down at her hand that was resting on the ground. He slowly scooted his own hand towards hers and hesitantly hovered it over her own hand.
"Do you think your mom will be alright?" (Y/n) suddenly asked.
Vince immediately brought his hand back to his side and his face flushed.
"Y-Yeah. She's tough, she can handle herself."
(Y/n) hummed, deep in thought. Vince always thought she looked cute when she had her thinking face on. They way her brows furrowed and her nose would scrunch up.
"Hey. Everything's going to be fine. I'm not going to let anything happen to you." He promised.
She looked up into his eyes and gave him a grateful smile. "Thanks Vince." (Y/n) then leaned her head on his shoulder and he wrapped an arm around her to comfort her.
"Your welcome." He replied, looking down at her.

Draugr Cell //Layer 01-- Investiture:
With the end of the only war to ever reach mainland Australia I found myself living out of a small room in an old military compound that had been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The end of the war, unfortunately, didn't mean the end of hostilities. The terrorism trend that had started back in the early 2000's with the attack on the world trade center over in America, had spread to just about every country on the face of the planet. Over time the constant threat from various groups meant the civilian police force was quickly undermanned, under equipped, and overwhelmed. They were simply unable to respond to the daily threats in any reasonable time frame, and in many situations lacked the both the skills and equipment required to deal with the threats to put them down in a 'safe' and expedient manner. Veterans of the war that were being reintegrated into society however, were just about everywhere, all the time. We have the training and the skills required to deal with just about any threat you care to mention, all we needed was access to the equipment to do so. In a world first, under the new Veterans program, the Australian government had taken the rather controversial step of allowing specifically selected veterans to go armed in public. Sure, with Australian weapons laws being very, very strict there were a number of hurdles to get over first, but that's where the selection part comes in. Tangentially that's actually how I met Brianna, my current partner. We work as ringers in Victory City, I thought being thrown into imptomtu combat operations and risking my life on a daily basis for barely livable wages was excitement enough. Then I met her... it... I don't know. An AI unlike anything else out there has wedged itself into my life and decided it needs to... look after me. What could possibly go wrong? **** This is the first book I have released, and my first entry into a cyberpunk universe. There is minimal drug use, a fair amount of sex, a bit of gory violence, and a sultry AI that has decided the main character needs a harem.
