《Taking Over Me | Camille O'Connell》Chapter Eight

However much she tried to, Camille O'Connell didn't quite understand Antoinette Deveraux.
She knew exactly why she had kissed Antoinette: she had developed some kind of feelings for her that Antoinette apparently didn't return, considering she had run away right after. But something about the look in her eye made Cami think she must have felt something, and was just afraid to admit it.
Antoinette had gone through some sort of deep trauma in her human life; Cami had been able to gather that much about her. She was obviously some kind of recluse, though not entirely antisocial, since she did have a few friends. Really, it was almost like-
"Like she's afraid to love," Cami said softly.
"Camille?"
She was sitting on a sofa at the Mikaelson compound. Klaus Mikaelson was standing by the fireplace, staring at her curiously.
"Did you say something?" she asked.
"I've been talking," Klaus answered, "To you. You, however, seem to be talking to yourself."
Cami sighed. "I'm sorry. My mind's been all over the place for the last twenty-four hours."
"Hmm. Perhaps today just isn't a good day to be playing therapist, then?"
"Probably not." She closed up her notebook. "I don't think I can help anyone else with their problems if I can't figure out my own current problem."
"Is it really that bad?" Klaus asked, sitting down in a chair.
"Well, it concerns my love life, so I'd say it's of some importance."
"Ah. Romance. Marcel hasn't done anything to you, has he?"
"No. I've barely seen Marcel for the last month. It's actually his roommate, Antoinette Deveraux."
Klaus raised his eyebrows. "The young lady he brought to the party? What does she have to do with your love life?"

"Well, I kissed her yesterday."
"Oh." He cleared his throat. "I suppose that could do it. You-you kissed her?"
Cami nodded. "I really like her. We've been hanging out a lot lately, and...I just felt the need to kiss her."
"And judging by your mood, I take it she didn't appreciate the gesture?"
She shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I thought she liked me, too. But she pulled away and apologized for giving me the idea that we could be more than friends."
"Then it sounds like she doesn't return whatever it is you feel," Klaus said.
Cami shook her head. "No. That's not it. I saw the look in her eyes. She felt something, too. I think she was afraid, but I don't know why. I don't think it's just because I'm a woman; I think there's something else."
Klaus shrugged. "Perhaps a lost love. Everyone seems to have one."
She sighed. "Great. So, what do you think I should do?"
"Well, to be honest with you, Camille, I don't think I'm a very good person to ask for advice on anything. But Elijah seems to think that talking about problems can help. Perhaps you should put those therapist skills of yours to good use and talk to Ms. Deveraux. You never know; with the right words, she could open herself up to you."
~~~~~~
Now Cami was alone in her own apartment. Talking to Klaus about the situation had actually helped her, and she knew that if she just talked to Antoinette, maybe they could work it out, figure it out what this was between them.
Cami got up and put her jacket back on, heading for the door. But when she opened it, there stood Antoinette, her fist raised as if she had just been about to knock.
"I was just going to see you," she said.
"That's good to hear," Antoinette said. "I wanted to apologize to you. My behavior yesterday was uncalled for."
"You mean when I kissed you and you ran away from me?"
She flinched. "Yes. That. You deserve to know why I ran away, and why I don't talk about myself. Will you let me in?"
Artemis
"Let them go, Dante." I whip my head to see a small boy standing the clearing with blonde hair and a green cloak hanging from shoulders. He isn't very tall however he holds his stance well. He doesn't seem to be more than Cassandra's age. Maybe 12 at most. I abruptly turn my head back hearing the man holding a sword to my throat chuckling with a sinister grin. "Oh, poor boy, what are you go to do about it?" The yellow teeth gleam as he begins stalking towards the boy who does not look the least bit fazed. I look around at the other men who are following the leader. I pull Cassandra tighter to my back as I take small steps back. I keep my eye trained on the men but also fear for the naive boy. "Do you really want to test me Dante?" He asks raising a single eyebrow. For a minute the men stop their movements. I see their hesitation for fear... Fear of what? I take the moment to stick Cassandra behind a nearby tree. She crouches down while I pull my sword out from its place. "How do you know my name?" The scoundrel raises his sword challenging towards the boy before taking a final step towards him. Then the unexpected happens. The young boy chuckles so darkly. It sounded almost... demonic. All the men instinctively raise their swords. "Oh Dante, I didn't know your name... but you know someone dear to me." "Spit it out boy!" The once grinning man is now looking around frantically. I continue my eyes scanning the small boy. He looks directly me and gives me a small nod before saying one word that caused all hell to breaks loose. "Artemis." Artemis is not an ordinary girl. She grew up in the wilderness after being shunned due to unique abilities and her different physical attributes.
