《The Villainess's Great Revenge》46

As Angelina walked back to her room, her mocking grin never once dimmed.
When Marie asked her why she gave her carefully embroidered handkerchief to Evelina, Angelina said nothing but let out a quiet chuckle.
*********
The next day, during breakfast.
The family once again gathered inside the dining room and ate together.
Perhaps it was because the countess passed away and everyone wanted to mourn together, or maybe it was because they all wanted to hear about Angelina's experience at the Casspan estate.
The duke was the first to ask.
"Angelina, what happened when you were at the Casspan estate?"
"Well I tried my best to be polite and it seems that marquess and marchioness Casspan liked me a lot."
"Oh... that's good" then the duke shifted his gaze towards Evelina.
Evelina held her fork tightly and her expression looked panicked.
"What did they say, Lina?" The duchess asked happily.
"Well they said I was very knowledgeable" Angelina said as she wiped her mouth with a napkin.
"Good!" The Duchess smiled proudly.
"Well what did young master Chase say?" Alex asked smiling. But his eyes showed a hint of mockery.
"Well he said....I was ...cute" as she said this, Angelina deliberately put on a slightly more flushed and shy expression.
"Is that so..." Alex's eyebrows twitched.
"Well I'm sure he'll think Eve is even cuter" the duke laughed.
'are you not even trying to hide your biasness anymore?' Angelina had the urge to roll her eyes.
"Um....father"
"Yes, Eve?"
"Well...I was just thinking...how about...I come by the Casspan mansion and say hello...?"
"You sure?"
"Of course! I haven't seen the Casspan couple in a long time. What if they think I'm too unfilial to become their daughter in law?" Evelina said with a bashful expression.

'oh? Are you that excited to be in laws with them?' this time Angelina really did roll her eyes. Fortunately no one else saw that... exept for Alex.
Seeing Angelina roll her eyes towards Evelina, Alex frowned.
He found her increasingly hateable each day.
"Well make sure to inform them before hand. It would be rude to show up suddenly."
"Yes, father!"
***********
As Evelina eagerly prepared for her visit to the Casspan estate, Angelina could only ponder what she planned to do.
She had a weird feeling....like something was gonna happen...
***********
Evelina chose her best dress and Carol carefully did Evelina's hair.
Evelina wore a bright blue gown, her hair was tied in half ponytail, and she wore chandelier earings.
As she got on the carriage, Evelina looked back and smirked at Angelina.
Angelina furrowed her brows. What was she planning to do?
***********
After they arrived in front of the Casspan mansion, Evelina eagerly got off the carriage. Ignoring the maid who reached out her hand to help her down.
Just like when Angelina came, the Casspan family stood at the entrance waiting for her.
Seeing Evelina, the marquess and Marchioness's frowned.
When Evelina got closer to them, she was finally able to realize that they were frowning.
She was confused. Did I do something wrong...?
But they still led her to the drawing room with a polite smile.
"It's an honour to be here, your grace" Evelina flashed a sweet smile.
"You do have a sweet mouth" The Marchioness smiled.
Evelina glanced at the marquess and found him frowning at her.
"Uhmm...is there something wrong, marquess?"
"I heard a tragedy happened recently in your family."
"Hm?"
Seeing Evelina being clueless, the marquess frowned even more.
"The duke, your father's younger sister died from an accident... right?"

"Oh...yes..." Evelina immediately put on a sad expression. "I couldn't believe it at first....but i- ah!"
The marquess suddenly slammed his hand against the table.
"M..m-marquess....?" Evelina was starting to get nervous.
"Your aunt died and it was only yesterday, but your already wearing such things!?" The marquess was furious.
Evelina's mind went blank for a while before realizing her mistake.
After a family member or a close friend died, you shouldn't wear any bright or too attention seeking things.
Evelina was wearing a bright colored dress and was also wearing jewelery. She didn't look like a niece who found out her aunt died at all!
Chase too realized this and his expression also dimmed.
"...." Evelina didn't know what to say. She was speechless. She didn't know how to justify herself.
The marquess got up and left.
The atmosphere in the room immediately turned gloomy.
***********
Angelina was currently having tea with Alice.
"Lina, I heard your debut is approaching" Alice asked.
"It is" Angelina sipped her tea.
Then Alice pondered for a while.
"What is it Allie?"
"Oh! I just remembered I was invited to a gathering three days from today."
"So?"
"Well....do you want to join me? it might be good to make more connections with the noble ladies in advance before your debut."
Although Alice is shy, meek, and a little childish, she's actually a year older than Angelina. So she had debited.
"Well I do plan to...but I'm not that well known and I heard there's many unpleasant rumors about me. So I haven't been invited to any gatherings."
"Oh.... right those rumors...." Alice suddenly remembered.
Of course when Alice heard about the horrible rumors about Angelina, she didn't believe it.
"Then...this is a good chance to make connections and change how those ladies view you!"
"Hm... that's true..." Angelina put down her teacup and smiled. "Fine... I'll join you"
"Yay!" Alice exclaimed with a bright expression.
************
Evelina face was flushed red due to embarrassment and nervousness.
She was so excited for this visit that she completely forgot about everything and only thought about looking her best.
"....." The Marchioness stared at the silent Evelina for a while before saying, "don't mind my husband, lady Evelina. I'm sure you didn't she a bad intention"
"Ye-yes! Please...forgive me, Marchioness!"
Then Evelina had an idea. She turned to Chase and said, "brother Chase...I made this for you...."
Evelina then took out a beautifully handkerchief.
Chase was slightly suprised. Unlike the first handkerchief, this one actually looked beautiful, clean, and detailed.
The Marchioness was also suprised.
"You made this?" Chase asked.
"Of course! I this for brother Chase!"
Chase felt a little doubt. She couldn't have improved her embroidery skills this much right?
"May I look at your handkerchief, lady Evelina."
"Of course, Marchioness" Evelina smiled with pride and handed 'her' handkerchief.
Looking at the beautiful made handkerchief, she smiled.
"Are you sure you made this, lady Evelina?"
"Hm? Of course" Evelina looked at the Marchioness with a innocent and confused expression.
"Is that so..." The Marchioness's expression dimmed and she frowned.
Seeing the change in her expression, Evelina was scared.
"Is... something wrong....?"
"Mother?" Now Chase felt uncomfortable. The atmosphere was the total opposite of how the atmosphere was when Angelina came.
"Lady Evelina" the Marchioness called with a stern voice.
"Uhmm...yes...?"
"If you truly made this....then why is there "Angelina Skyler" on the corner of the handkerchief!?"

Path of Righteousness
What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
