《Home | The Originals》Chapter 74: Thanksgiving Dinner
Advertisement
Nik had invited Tristan, Lucien and Aurora to a thanksgiving dinner. I walk out to the table and see Tristan and. Lucien standing side my side. There is a dark red head standing on the opposite side smiling extra hard at Nik.
I walk over to Nik and gave him a kiss as a greeting. "Hi, I'm Phoenix, pleasure to meet you. You must be Aurora. Tristan's sister." I said as I held my hand out for her to shake.
"Yes, Aurora de Martel." She said giving me a fake smile as she shakes my hand.
"You look ravishing as always." Nik said as he held his hand out to me. I smile and gave him my hand as he kiss the back of it.
"The kids are napping." I said.
"Love to go on a date with you and the kids soon." Nik said with a proud smile.
"Welcome to our home." I hear Elijah as he walks down the stairs. "I do wish it was under better circumstances. We all face a common threat. A prophecy warning that my siblings and I would all fall within a year. I fear my sister already has." Elijah finished as he gets to our floor level.
"Only as a precautionary measure, I assure you." Tristan said.
Elijah had informed us that Tristan had captured Rebekah then Nik told me that Aurora hijacked Rebekah from Tristan and hid her body somewhere else.
"Interesting. You see, I would've called it an entirely unnecessary measure. We need to unite to prevent this prophecy from coming to pass and since any alliance is impossible without honesty, let's begin this evening's proceedings by formally acknowledging your clandestine alliance." Elijah said looking directly at Tristan and Lucien as he stands by me and Nik's side.
"Now, gentlemen, before—"
"Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, Lucien, please. Let's not ruin the dinner before it begins." Elijah cut him off.
"And do try to bear in mind, we expect an honest productive negotiation this evening." Nik said.
"Shall we begin?" Elijah asked the three with a wicked smile.
"Did I make it in time?" I hear from behind me and we all turn around to see Paula walking in the Compound.
"Paula , hi. What are you doing here?" I asked as I hug her.
"I'm not gonna let you sit in a room filled with three different sire lines." Paula said as she sits in a chair. Aurora, Lucien, and Tristan followed after her and sat on the side of the table. Nik and Elijah sat at the head and I sat on the side between Nik and Lucien.

"It's a bit odd, isn't it? Celebrating an American holiday." Lucien said once the waiters left after placing all the food.
"Well, you know, Lucien, I rather enjoy Thanksgiving. The turkey, the cranberry sauce, the lies, the deceit, the betrayal." Elijah said and Lucien kept quiet. "Perhaps we should begin this evening's proceedings with a little confession. And do help yourselves."
I'm not allowed to hurt Aurora seeing as Elijah told me to not cause a scene but I told him if she say anything to me, I'm killing her.
"So this entire dinner is meant to be some boorish inquisition? How rude." Aurora said.
"Nonsense, love. My brother merely wishes to make certain we're all in the same page. So, who would like to begin?" Nik asked.
"I would like to start this off by saying how gorgous you look, Phoenix." Lucien said as he takes my left hand and kissed the back of it.

"Thank you, Lucien. You look pretty good as well." I said as I give him a forced smile. My right hand was being held by Nik who was squeezing it very tightly.
"Well, Lucien and I have always loathed each other. Had we arrived as allies with news of a bleak future, you would've doubted us. We sought to remove suspicion by maintaining appearances." Tristan said.
"Oh, my dear. These pathetic lies promise to be as difficult to swallow as your stuffing this year, Niklaus." Elijah said as he cuts into his food.
I grab my glass of wine and took a sip. There are a million places I would rather be than to sit here next to a man who doesn't take no for an answer and an ex lover who looks crazy.
"The bottom line is, we came to protect you, and ourselves. We have never wavered on this point." Lucien said.
"And the bodies on my streets. Is that your "protection," as well?" Nik asked as he rest his elbows on the table.
"It's business as usual for the Strix." Lucien said then he takes a sip of his wine.
"An old tactic used often, and to great success. Jack the Ripper, Son of Sam. A frightened human populace is that much easier to control. If tourism should decline, and local vampires are deprived of fresh blood, well, you saw how quickly Marcel joined ranks." Tristan said.
"More like forced." I said then I ate a piece of stake.
"My offer still stands, if you ever decide to join us, Phoenix." Tristan said.
"She is fine and doesn't need your protection when she has me and the rest of her sirelines." Paula said.
"If one wanted to obtain a certain item in, say, a private collection, but one was not invited to the home where said private collection was located. A police investigation could come in very handy to remove these items as evidence." Lucien said.
"I take it that you are referring to the medallion." Elijah said.
"I suppose it was my sister who shared that bit of information." Tristan said looking at Aurora who put her head down.
"A medallion that can lock us away. Hardly seems like a wise strategy for those come to protect us." Nik said.
"Extremely stupid." Paula whispered as she eats her food.
"Hand it over." Nik asked politely.
"And release Rebekah." Elijah added.
"Uh, just a tick. Aurora has Rebekah?" Lucien asked as he points to said person.
"No reason why I shouldn't be trusted with my site's safety." Aurora said.
I got a text message from my phone and I looked down to see what it read. "Bipolar?" It said from Paula.
I texted back. "Most likely" and then I put my phone away.
"Unless you were to have one of your episodes." Lucien said. Oh she actually is bipolar.
"Easy, Lucien. My sister sought leverage to protect herself. Who among us would do otherwise?" Tristan said.
"I would." Paula said as she raised her hand in the air.
"Niklaus, would you politely remind me why we shouldn't just compel them all to give us what we want?" Elijah asked and I think he is getting tired of this dinner.
This dinner has been boring and no progress has been made at all. Lucien and Aurora start laughing.
"What the bloody hell did Elijah say that was so funny?" I asked.

"We lost a century to compulsion, my love. And some of us lost a great deal more." Aurora said looking at Nik then towards Elijah for the last comment.
She is still in love with Nik and I'm trying for Elijah's sake not to react but even I can tell that I am really protective over the people I love.
"Surely you can't believe we'd allow ourselves to come here vulnerable." Aurora continued.
"My dearest Aurora, compulsion is not my only party trick." Elijah said.
"I do not like these threats."
"Our continued existence depends on the Mikaelsons." Tristan said stopping his sister from getting anymore riled up. "We've known that since Finn and Kol died. Unfortunately, so does every other vampire in the world. And given that the sire lines have declared war against one another, you can imagine how many young upstarts have come to the same conclusion. Kill an Original, wipe out an entire line of rivals. Heavy burden, isn't it? The lives of thousands of sired vampires resting on your shoulders. In a perfect world, you would allow us to seal you away forever thus eliminating the threat."
"Fortunately, the world is far from perfect." Nik said.
~~~
"Of all the nauseating dinner theater we've been doing throughout the centuries, these performances are, by far, the worst." Elijah said then took a sip of his wine. "Aurora. My sister." He demanded her.
Before she can say anything, Freya had walked in slowly seeing the table we were sitting at. "Thank god, could you please save me from this dinner?" I asked her sarcastically.
"We're welcoming our enemies to the dinner table now?" Freya asked as she walks up to our table. "Convenient, given she's the one who has the answers I want."
"For heaven's sake, now I have to deal with the long-lost sister?" Aurora said as harshly stands up from her seat. "Nik, please spare me your family's rage and paranoia. It is exactly this kind of lunacy which led me to steal Rebekah in the first place." She said.
"Maybe you wouldn't get the family's rage and paranoia if you didn't kidnap Rebekah in the first place. She was doing fine on her own and there is no white oak anymore." I said.
"What did you do with her?" Freya asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry, love, but this prophecy has you all acting as fools. And I've no intention of risking my life to foolishness. Now, I can't trust Rebekah with any of you, and I certainly can't trust the silly dear to endorse on her own, so I decided to put her someplace safe."
"You put her in the ocean." I said figuring out where exactly Rebekah's body was. Is this bitch crazy?
"You're bluffing." Nik said lowly. "Tell me you're bluffing.
"What, you should all be thanking me!" Aurora exclaimed. "Rebekah's never been safer. She has plenty of company down there. There's all the little crabs—"
I cut Aurora off by slamming her hard against a wall. Tristan sped to me and held a stake he had on him against my back. "Harm my sister and I'll be forced to return the favor." He threatened.
"Motus." My magic harshly threw Tristan off of me and Elijah held him against another wall so he couldn't move.
"Well, this all escalated very quickly." Lucien commented.
"Shut up, Lucien. Or I'll tear your tongue from your head." Nik threatens.
Aurora was trying to pry my hands off of her but I am older and a Original so she won't be able to do anything. "Be careful with your threats, Nik. Anything should happen to me, my friends will hunt down Phoenix."
"Who the hell are you and what type of relationship do you have with Nik?" Aurora asked as she finally stop struggling to free herself.
"I'm a hybrid, love. Half vampire, half witch. I am also Nik's fiancé so if I was you I would stop trying to woo my future husband." I said with a bright smile.
"Fiancé?" Aurora repeated with shock then looks at Nik confused.
"I told you that I don't love you and that I love someone else. You just pretended to not hear a word I said." Nik said.
Aurora looks back at me angrily. "If you think I would let you take what is—" I wave my free hand over her face and I let go of her as she falls to the floor unconscious.
"I'm going to have fun torturing you." I commented. My phone buzzed and I looked at the message that was sent from Vincent. "Davina killed a witch and has been shunned. Can you be the covens new regent?" He asked.
I mean if I become regent I'll have all the New Orleans witches on my side and even more power than I already have.
~Not about to waste my time writing out the details of this process~
I came back to the Compound and saw Aurora looking fine but has dried blood from her nose. "Did you guys find Rebekah?" I asked.
"No, both Tristan and Aurora hold pieces of Rebekah's location. Aurora has the latitude and Tristan holds the longitude." Elijah explained.
"Well this is going to be fun then. I like that my victims are very stubborn." I said which confused all of them. I sped behind Tristan and snapped his neck harshly. I pulled out a stake I had and held it above Tristan's heart. "Aurora, darling. I'm asking as politely as I can. Bring Rebekah home and if you don't then you will get to experience what it is like being an only child." I threatened and pushed the stake in a little to prove my point.
"You betray me. After all your promises of love." Aurora said looking at Nik.
"I don't love you anymore! Those promises were made in the past when I did love you, but it's the 21st century and we are now in the present. Now I have your brother. A sibling for a sibling. I want Rebekah back." Nik said.
"Sexy." I hear Lucien whisper to himself and I can feel him eye fucking me.
"You will regret this." Aurora told him. She turned around to do as she is told, not before yanking on the table cloth making all the glasses tip over and spill the wine.
"Where did you go, love?" Nik asked me.
"Vincent texted me and said Davina got shunned for killing another witch. He wanted me to be the new regent since, you know, I'm me and I'm pretty awesome." I said with a smile at the end.
The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?
