《You And I》ƇӇƛƤƬЄƦ 19: Dixie Larissa Clarkson

"ℭan I please speak to Ms. Larissa Clarkson?" A foreign voice spoke through the ear piece as soon as I rushed out of my Geometry class to answer the undying ringing of my phone.
"Yes, speaking" I replied with an esoteric courage inside of me.
"I'm sorry to bring to you Ms. Clarkson, that you've lost your Dad, Mr. Harold Earl Clarkson at 4:00pm this afternoon. It was a peaceful and painless death" the unfamiliar voice finished with a gelatinous and conciliatory tone.
My body was insentient, my arm arched in a way to hold the cellphone against my ear so hard that I could feel it's warmth against my cheek skin.
As if on cue, my eyes drooped before closing and letting a river of tears drip down my cheeks. My lips still sealed to let any sentence flow out of them.

The next day...
My eyes on their own moved slowly from the soft floppy wide brim cloche fedora dress hat, covering most of my head to look down at below the knee elegant vintage cocktail dress.
ஜ۩۞۩ஜ
Dad said pointing at dress through the glass display at Mango.
I shook my head sideways, as my hands rested on my hips.
he had a long look in those green eyes on his, before he walked into the store with me walking hot heels behind him; shaking my head to the thought of silliness.
ஜ۩۞۩ஜ
Blinking away the memories with a deep breath, I turned from the mirror and picked the white rose I had left on my dresser from yesterday.

"Look Mom, you just earned a companion next to you. You won't feel alone ever again" I said softly, removing my hat and placing it neatly on the headstone of the grave next to Dad's.

"I think you two had planned on giving me the worst ever punishment on being alive. And guess what, you two have professedly succeeded in doing just that" a smile lifted the corner of my lips and tears after tears dripped down, staining my cheeks.
"Now that you two have found each other. I'll go and find myself around this world" My left hand lifted off the final tear leaked at the back of it and pressed it on the soft soil separating the two graves.
Patting onto the soft soil on the two parallel graves, I fetched my hat, before placing it over my head and stood up ineptly.
"Until then, take care parents" I tipped my hat slightly, before finding my footing towards the main gate of the God's acre.
Just before reaching the gate, I almost ripped the dress I was wearing to reveal my casuals underneath. Pulling my biker gloves over my fingers, I zipped them up to secure.
Swinging my left leg on the bike, I twisted the key to bring it to life.

Spring: the chrips of the birds, the blooming of the flowers, and the gentle patter of the rain. Ah, what a beautiful time of the year! When students look forward to the coming summer vacation, when lovers rejoice under the sprouting trees, and when monsters rampage across the planet, but of course this would be autumn in the southern hemisphere. Thus is the peaceful life of our protagonist shattered as game like elements and otherworldly denizens intrude upon an unsuspecting Earth. Armed with nothing but his modern sensibilities and urban constitution, he will have to face a world brimming with encounters - both monstrous and otherwise. THE RELIC GUILD (and other stories) Updated regularly.
Magic caused the war. Magic is forbidden. Magic will save us. The Relic Guild is the award nominated first book in The Relic Guild trilogy. It was said the Labyrinth had once been the great meeting place, a sprawling city at the heart of an endless maze where a million humans hosted the Houses of the Aelfir. But when the Thaumaturgists, overlords of human and Aelfir alike, went to war, everything was ruined and the Labyrinth became an abandoned prison. The surviving humans were trapped behind boundary walls a hundred feet high, and all magic was forbidden. And now the war is returning. The Relic Guild are all that stand against the end of the city. But they are old, scattered and weak, and the enemy is growing in strength...Here in THE RELIC GUILD (and other stories) please enjoy a large chunk of The Relic Guild Trilogy (published with kind permission of my publisher Gollancz), complete short stories, the odd poem, one or two blog posts, and samples chapters from my other novels.
