《The Touch of Infection》Chapter 50: Something went wrong

Yet another day went by, the samples of her blood already been taken. Carisa sat in the living room watching as Marnik walked around completely concentrated on what he was doing. Leaning her head against her hand, "I've been thinking of going to see Bavyn. Since I haven't taken care of him these last days."
"You don't need to do that," Marnik said.
"Then what do I do Marnik? I'm bored." She admitted, "And you're busy... Bavyn's a good kid, I'll just be with him a little while."
Marnik frowned, "Weren't you going to study? So you could speak with alaois normally,"
"Yes, but I don't just wanna be stuck in here doing that over and over again." She stood walking up to him, "It'll just be a little while. See how he's doing."
Marnik grumbled turning to look down at her, "You bring him here. Where I can keep an eye on you while working."
Carisa crossed her hands, "You're starting to sound like a babysitter. I'll be fine." She walked up to the door, reaching the scanner when he grabbed her hand.
"Just make sure that if you feel anything wrong, you'll come back here. You'll call me." He squeezed her hand gently, "If you're not back in half an hour I'll go get you."
"Alright." She agreed and opened the door, "Half an hour if I'm not back then you come and get me." Carisa smiled and before closing the door she saw him hesitate, "What?"
"Nothing." He stepped out and leaned against the door frame, "I'm just going to make sure you get to the room." He said, keeping his eyes on her before looking over at the room door where Bavyn should be.

Carisa sucked in a deep breath, he was being so overbearing. She walked up to the door, requesting entrance as her eyes looked back at Marnik still by the door. The door opened quickly and Bavyn's head poked out. He hugged Carisa's legs and giggled.
"I haven't seen you in days." He whines and looked up at her.
She ruffled his hair, her eyes turning to see if Marnik was still there, but he'd already gone back inside. Carisa smiled at Bavyn, "Is your dad inside?" She spoke slowly, forming the words he'd understand.
He shook his head, "He's at work."
"You... alone?" She raised a brow, looking slightly inside but as she thought all was empty.
Bavyn shrugged, "Everyone's busy, I was told to stay inside, but now we can play. Right?"
"Yeah, a little while." Carisa was pulled inside and Bavyn was quick to look for paper. Normally she'd get him to draw or show him how the English language worked. He was always full of interest in anything she said, just wanting to do whatever she did.
He plopped down on the floor, doodling when he stared up at her, "Do you know what the adults are doing?"
"Not all of them. Do you?"
Basin moved his head side to side, "They say that... you're sick."
Carisa froze up, Vasin must have told him. She should have expected it but... hearing him she was taken back, "I... I am sick."
"Will you be alright?" Bavyn wondered.
"I don't know." Carisa fell silent, time around her seeming to stop. She wondered what it would be like if one day she woke up like those things. Would it be like she was a prisoner in her own body, or would she just die as her body continued to decay and move as if she was still the one using it?

Bavyn got up and sat beside her, "I'll take care of you." Carisa couldn't help the smile forming on her lips hearing him.
She thought of the words she needed forming her sentence carefully, "Who's going to take care of you then?"
"You will. I take care of you, and you take care of me." Bavyn leaned against Carisa, his eyes looking up at her, "We stay together... You won't leave, right?"
"I don't plan to leave." Just as she said that the stoic like voice spoke in the room. Letting them know Marnik was outside and waiting.
Carisa sighed, "Why don't you come over to my room?" she rather not leave him here on his own. Opening the door to see Marnik with his back towards her, blocking the door as he slowly entered backward. His eyes set on something she couldn't see, before she could even ask what it was about he closed the door.
"Stay quiet." He whispered and Carisa instantly looked at Bavyn, pressing her finger on her lips. Bavyn quickly walked up to her, wrapping his hands around her legs and keeping his eyes on Marnik.
She reached out touching Marnik's arm, he seemed panicked when she touched him. His eyes scanning her over quickly. Her eyes landing on a wound at his shoulder.
"What happened?" She whispered, reaching out to it but having her hand caught on his own.
Small growls heard on the other side of the door with small bangs following behind, her eyes widened. The banging of doors growing louder. Marnik's eyes were shaky and he covered the wound up with his other hand, "Something went wrong, really wrong."
