《Burn Archer》Two- Curses Revealed

Brandon and Emily came running out from behind us.
"You're a patient," Emily snapped. "You can't run out like that!"
I grabbed the collar of her shirt as she spat the words in my mouth and I snarled, "Yeah? And what if I do?"
Brandon slipped in between us and pushed me back. "Ladies, ladies. We have heaps of time to fight over who's going to win my heart at the end of this movie."
"I hope that's not me then," I murmured.
Carter coughed from behind me. "You need to answer a few questions about yourself-"
"I should be the one asking questions," I stated. "In fact, I don't have to tell you a thing."
"Fine, ask away. But then you have to answer ours."
"Carter, are you sure about this because-" Emily began complaining.
"Look at her. Do you really think she's a spy? She's one of us," he defended, smiling at me.
I glanced around at the different sorts of creatures staring at us. "City of Apex. Tell me about it."
Brandon folded his arms over his chest and said, "Current population is 2762-not including you. The moon rays are called Dendrites. This is the most efficient way of running a city as it can be used in transport and everything else."
"So like solar energy? And what about electricity?"
"Dendrites are so powerful that each ray would be able to power a household. And they cause no harm to the residents," Emily broke in. "As for jobs, everyone uses their individual Curses to do their part in society. In return, they get meals 3 times a day and a new piece of apparel every week."
"And this society works?" I questioned.
"Well, it has been for the past 80 years."
"80? Did my dad- Henry Archer- ever live here?"
"Your dad, Mr Archer, resided here for a few months before moving to a new location," Emily replied. "I assume he left to marry that mermaid mother of yours."

I already knew that mum used to be a mermaid but hearing it from another's mouth, it felt weird. Was that the reason that water could heal me?
I'll never know as both my parents were dead.
"So what are your Curses?" I asked cautiously. I didn't know whether that stuff was supposed to be a secret or not.
"This society works just like a body, all right? A group of people are its' arms, some its' legs and others the brain and heart," Emily started.
"I'm the senses. My Curse is having enhanced hearing and sight which helped me become a Huntsman," Brandon interrupted. "Man, I wish there was a group for the pelvic area."
"A Huntsman?"
"Special forces. I can't tell you more as it's a secret."
Emily coughed and said, "My Curse is healing which means I'm the arms."
"She's a nurse," Carter finished.
"And you?"
His hazel eyes met mine as he said, "I'm also a Huntsman. But I've got the senses too, a rank higher than Brandon."
"Stop flexing, dude," Brandon chuckled, punching Carter in the arm.
"Flexing?"
"Yeah, it's rare to have activated the brain or heart. Almost impossible to belong in two or more groups," Emily shrugged.
Then I realised as I looked around me. All of these people were Apex. Each one of them wanted and put to death.
I didn't feel so alone anymore.
Carter grabbed my hand and led me back inside the hospital. Thoughts began flooding into my brain. His voice started echoing inside my head.
There's so much to show-
I snatched my palm out of his. I seriously needed a way to control this thought reading thing. Otherwise, I never would be able to touch anyone.
What's wrong?
"Can you not talk like a normal person?" I asked frustratedly.
Nope.
He led me into an office, closing the door.

"What's your name?"
"You already know that, Carter."
It's for the report. Just say it again.
"Burn Archer."
"Is that your full name?"
I groaned. "No, it's Auburn Archer."
"Age?"
"17?"
"Current status of your parents? Henry Archer and Ariel Archer."
My voice cracked as I said, "They're dead."
Carter's pupils dilated and his lips pursed into a straight line.
I'm sorry about that.
I ignored him. "Next question?"
He looked back down on his sheet, his caramel curls falling onto his eyes. "Why did you leave earth and what was your transport out?"
"The oagles attacked the planet so I got onto one of their ships just as it was leaving. Then I escaped with the help of Princess Ivory."
"She was an accompaniment on your quest?"
"Who talks like that?" I murmured.
"Then what?" he continued, ignoring me.
"I travelled to the oagles planet with the help of a few Mayas named Sebastian and Eleanor," I said. "I'm not telling you any more."
Suddenly, the door opened and Brandon walked in. "The president would like to see you, Burn."
"The president? Why?"
Carter gave me an isn't-it-obvious look. "You made quite an entrance, you know. This planet's location is a secret."
I was taken to a bigger room where there weren't any windows and security guards guarded the door.
"Glad that we could finally meet," he stood up and walked towards the door, shaking my hand. A man in his late 40s' with faded blue skin and a horrible taste for shoes. Also, his accent was very French mixed with a bit of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Wish I could say the same.
He gave me a dirty look. Oh gosh, I didn't say that out loud, did I?
"You didn't, don't worry."
"Then how did you hear me?" I asked and then gasped. "Unless you didn't."
He gave out a weird snort. "I have the Curse of hearing thoughts when I make physical contact. One of the reasons I'm president, as it's an incredibly rare trait."
My heart leapt a little. He had the same Curse as me.
"How did you learn to control it?"
"Practice. Heaps and heaps of it."
I nodded, glancing around.
"What are your Curses?"
I hesitated, glancing around the room questioning whether I should tell him.
"Everyone here is open about it, Burn. No need to be afraid."
Suddenly, the tie that he was wearing began floating upwards. His hazel eyes widened as his hands attempted to catch it but failed as it rose higher.
"Are you doing this?" he asked in bewilderment.
I nodded as I lowered it back to where it was.
"So you're part of the brain then, huh?" he asked, his tone surprised.
"For my next trick, I shall make you cry."
"What do you mean-"
All of a sudden, his smile vanished as teardrops began forming in his eyes. The man looked incredibly stupid sitting here in front of me. The president of this planet.
He began moaning and going on about how he didn't know why he was sad but felt deeply upset.
After I put him back to normal, he had a fire burning in his eyes. "Controlling emotions and telekinesis. I'm impressed. You've activated your brain and heart."
"Magnificent, truly," he added.
"I guess," I shrugged.
"Well, my son shall get you settled in and tomorrow, we'll begin your lessons."
"Your son?"
"Yes. It's Carter. But you've already met him, haven't you?"
"I think he missed out on the bit where he was the president's son," I replied bluntly. "Wait, training to be what?"
His accent was more obvious than ever as the words rolled off his tongue. The words which would play a massive role in my future.
"A Huntsman."

The Depths of Magic
Synopsis It's the year 2052 and the release of the new next-generation full-dive VRMMO game called The Depths of Magic is hitting the world by storm. The game's technology will surpass all other games before it and shock the masses. Hector who goes by the name Locke inside the game is an experienced player of the genre. He is looking to continue his goal of enjoying gaming as well as the competition that goes along with competing for the top ranking spots. Novel Summary The Depths of Magic is a LitRPG novel focused on a Fantasy VRMMO setting. This is not a harem novel. In-Game systems The Depths of Magic features state-of-the-art technology never before seen in Hector's world. The key system the novel will bring up often is the Second Brain. The Second Brain system is more like a guidance AI for the players in the game that acts as if you had a second brain assisting your every action. How much guidance this AI will give is based on its experience or mastery skills a player will receive in the game. The guidance is seamless to a point where a player won't even realize they are being assisted, it's will feel like what they are doing is something they could always do. However, once they leave the game it will become quite apparent that they were receiving heavy guidance. The purpose of this system in a writing sense is to explain why a player can realistically become more powerful, more agile, or more skilled than they would otherwise be able to as a human. To give an example if someone could move faster than a bullet, how would a normal human brain be able to perceive and control this movement properly. Or how could a player who has never held a sword before become as experienced as someone who has trained with the sword all their lives? The magic system will be another focus of this novel. I don't want to spoil anything here but it should be an interesting one. The hope is that the system I have made will spark discussion between the readers on what combinations will do what. I already have most of it, but it will be fun to read as the author. Side notes My general focus for this novel is to attempt to make the in-game systems make sense. To give a vague example I have read a lot of novels of this genre and some have the habit of just creating such powerful items that it just breaks the system, and somehow the MC keeps finding challenging situations even with those items. What tends to happen when I read a novel like this I just ignore the stats of the items he is getting because the numbers don't even matter anymore. Release schedule: The chapter release schedule due to real-life complications is to release as I write them. Patreon setup: 1 chapter early release/discord access. Free content up to the current chapter includes an excel sheet that contains Locke's current stats at the end of the chapter. This is extra information for those that are interested.
