《Chances of Death: Seven Decks Book I》BK 2 - Chapter 44 Getting Ready

Sam set down the scroll he’d been studying, and said, “It’s going to take seven days for the physical modifications.”
Jen nodded, and commented, “Let me guess, one day for each race?”
“Exactly,” replied Sam, “The first day should be the ‘easiest’, because the modifications will be for humans, and should only need to improve any of my current senses that are lacking.”
Jen grinned, as she replied, “You’ve been lacking any sense for years!”
“Ha! That might be true,” laughed Sam, “After the human changes, the order of modifications that will follow are dwarf, gnome, elf, goblin, orc, and then troll… I think.”
Tamako asked, “Why are you not sure about the order?”
Sam shrugged his shoulders, and answered, “I could fully interpret the portion of the scroll relating to humans, but I couldn’t perceive the full content of the sections of the scroll pertaining to the other races. The goblin, orc, and troll sections were extremely incomplete due to my current perception, so much so, that I’m not even confident I’ve identified which section belongs to which race. I’m hoping that the changes the scroll will make in me, will actually allow me to perceive this type of information.”
Jen looked to Sam with an idea, and said, “Hey… why don’t you take a mental screenshot of the scroll so you can review it again after it’s disintegrated upon activation.”
Sam nodded, “Good idea. I’ll do that. Not to be a pessimist, but I don’t think the parts that I can’t currently perceive will show up in the screenshot, but worth a try.”
Tamako was still trying to get “comfortable” with Jen, Sam, and her new life, so she forced herself to be “uncomfortable” as she laid back on the bed placing her head in Jen’s lap, looked up at her, and asked, “So what’s the plan?”

Jen could feel the stiffness in Tamako’s body as she tried to be relaxed, so she casually ran her fingers through Tamako’s hair, as her mind briefly flicked to the scars across Tamako’s body, which were the only times her father ever touched her. Jen’s mind refocused quickly, and asked Sam, “When do you want to get started?”
Sam replied, “I’m ready now. I’ve already given Tamako the ring with everything I’m willing to sell.”
“O.K. let’s get some rest tonight and get started first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll be taking care of you, and Tamako will be dealing with Melvin over the next week or so.” Jen looked at Tamako, and continued, “Unfortunately, that means you’re going to have to take care of all the boring crap.”
Tamako turned so she could see Sam, and said to Jen, “Better than having to take care of him crying, and most likely all his literal crap and vomit from what he’s about to go through.”
Jen gave a gross face, and said, “Ugg! There must be some kind of cleaning spell we can buy.”
Sam looked guilty as he nodded, and replied, “Someday we’ll find one, and maybe it could clean our clothes too. But seriously, thanks boss.”

Rise of the Desolate Star
“The soul is a sword. The body its sheath. Adversity is the hammer, while courage is the anvil. Oh, and son? Your tears and snot, they’re just the sparks that chip away at the impurities, like dungflies off a sow’s arse.” - Kendric Farrow Ever since he could remember, young Skyle Farrow’s body and mind have been hammered relentlessly like red-hot steel against the anvil of adversity under the watchful eyes of his father. All the while, Skyle’s heart and soul have been nurtured by the enduring warmth of his loving mother. Skyle has always asked why a simple farmboy would have need for all manner of skills like hand-to-hand combat, wilderness tracking, archery, beast taming, geography, history, politics, and even embroidery! The one vital question remains unasked, however: just what are his parents preparing him for? The invasion of a demonic horde? The advent of an age of war and endless bloodshed? The dark legacy of an ancient mystical power? A desperate struggle to save the lives of those he holds dear? The end of the world? It is a good thing he never asked these questions, for the answer would have been yes - to all of them. Now Skyle must take his first steps beyond the sheltered world he has known. He has been raised strong, but is he strong enough? Welcome to a tale of friendship, love, loss and heartbreak. It chronicles the growth of a young boy into a legend whose path will shatter the very foundations of the world. Expect a rich, detailed world with vivid characters. Each will pursue their own complex agendas due to realistic motivations. The MC will be overpowered, not through liberal use of plot armor but rather the deliberate application of arduous training, clever thinking, and nurtured talent. Battles will be graphic, victories will be bittersweet, and defeat will not mean the end of the world - for time waits for no one and life goes on whether we like it or not. In this life, I will live peacefully
One morning I woke up in an unfamiliar body. How did I end up as some swordsman noble lady? Excellent question; I have no idea. But now that i have money, power and a stable job as the duchess of a nice piece of land, I sure as heck am not going to get back. What's that? Mercenaries are creating monsters with alchemy to insure their jobs won't disappear? The prince of a neighboring kingdom has sent me five marriage proposals this month alone? The Church which I am supposed to represent is running a propaganda campaign against demi-humans? Well, the least I can do is to fix things around my fief. Oh, and just in case anyone decided to go against me, I'll form an alliance with the crafter's guild, and start working on some semblance of modern artillery.
