Jacob, what is going on? Didn't I specifically say that you let me do the talking." Jacob sighed, looking the other way, until I took my hand and turned Jacob's face towards me. "I'm sorry, they forced me again." I sighed, just figuring out what to expect next, and Jacob swallowed hard.
"Did you kill her?" I asked, I looked at Jacob seriously.
Jacob sighed, "No," Jacob said, softly.
I just sat there in my seat continuing to look at Jacob. "You do know that you're gonna have to stop lying, they're gonna keep you here all night questioning you, until you tell them what happened." Jacob asked me if I didn't believe him, I sighed, stroking my hair out of my face.
"Please believe me, you know I wouldn't lay a single hand on anyone," Jacob said, begging. I sighed, "Then why do they arrest you?
*****
Jacob, she was murdered in cold blood, they arrested you for a reason, and I am thinking you have something to do with Izz's death," I said in frustration. Jacob swallowed before sighing. Jacob was interrupted by the detectives who came back in and sat down in their seats.

"Jacob, let me reverse a little, when you texted David and threatened him, was it before or after you found out your girlfriend was pregnant?" Jacob sighed, he was getting even more frustrated and upset.
"It was afterwards," Jacob answered back. "And David is your best friend, correct?" Jacob shook his head, "Yes." I sighed, wiping my eyes and face in frustration mode. Detective James just looked at me like he knew that we have been through a lot of bad stuff. He could tell I was worried about my own brother.

"How long have you and David have been friends?" Detective Evan asked. Jacob sighed, "I met David in ninth grade, so about four years." Detective James asked if David ever wanted to hurt anyone, possibly? "Did David ever had any problems with Izza?"
Jacob sighed, "I remember when he first met Izza, he kind of felt like I was using him over her." Detective James quickly asked, "Oh yeah, how so?" Jacob sighed once again, "I just knew that he was kind of jealous of Izza. Like he agreed for me to ask her to be my girlfriend, but then things started to settle down, like he started to like Izza," Jacob sighed, I made myself comfortable again in my own chair. I was confused.
I either was confused, or then I just had a flashback of what Jacob was implying about the fact that David starts to like Izza after he gets jealous of her. But jealousy is a sinful behavior, I guess the Holy Spirit got to David when he felt jealous. I remember being that way in high school.
*****
I was a teenager like David, being jealous of my best friend's girlfriend. Her name was Sophie River, the most popular girl in the school, dating my best friend, Taylor Matthews. Until I didn't know why I was jealous of Sophie. I was jealous of a girl who was dating my best friend. I sighed, and Jacob was still being interviewed.
"Jacob?"
"Yes?"
Defective James just looks at Jacob suspiciously and Jacob sighed, I could tell he was lying. "What? You think I am making all of this up? I know what I am saying, and I am not lying. I am explaining to you Detective James if you could just look up at me please and don't look at me like I am some kind of person who would just like to lie." I sighed, closing my eyes. I turned my head, opening my eyes once again.

"Heh," Jacob said, heheing. "Jacob," I said. I turned my head facing him once again. Jacob all of a sudden had a change in behavior. "Okay, well, Jacob, why did you think David started to like your girlfriend? He didn't pretend, did he? " Jacob shrugged, Jacob heheing once again, but softly chuckled at once. "I don't know, I guess the Holy Spirit just got to him. So he eventually stopped being jealous, at least that's what he told me."

A Step Behind Death
Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine. I plan on making this novel into a webtoon once it becomes the best it can be. English isn't my first language, so expect some grammar bumps along the way.

The Doormat Villainess – Adrianne
A villainess is a character who has always been diametrically opposed to the heroine of a romance drama. What makes a person a good villainess? The fact that she's unabashedly beautiful and charismatic, yet also rotten inside? The fact that she's incredibly loathsome, greedy, and selfish? That she's reasonably strong enough to be a hurdle, yet ultimately powerless in the face of a determined heroine? That despite all these character flaws, a Villainess's greatest virtue is unwilling to give up until the last of their breath, in pursuit of her personal desire? If those are the hallmark of a successful Villainess. Then, I might be the wrong person to play that role. Also on Scribblehub (Profile)
