《The New Creator》Chapter 19

Mirabelle leans over the edge of the balcony on the highest floor of the castle. She stares down at her city, now fully repaired from the Oracle. Syllia walks up from behind and looks down at the town with her. Mirabelle doesn't notice her and continues to stare off.
"What are you thinking about, dear?" Syllia asked, placing her hand on Mirabelle's shoulder.
Mirabelle quickly snaps out of her thought and turns toward Syllia.
"Where was the DHA during this whole ordeal? Whatever Chandler's view of Brandon might be, there were lives on the line. Where the Hell was he and his army?" Mirabelle questioned, tightly squeezing the railing.
"According to a message straight from Chandler, they had no idea this was going on. He claims that it was only after the Oracle was fired that he was informed about the current events." Syllia explained, placing her hand over Mirabelle's, trying to get her to loosen her grip.
"That makes no sense his father was part of the decision! There's no way he didn't know the little bastard didn't want to help!" Mirabelle yelled in frustration.
The railing beings to crack underneath the pressure of her grip.
"He's offering to station a few hundred of his men here to help protect from any additional threats until we've regained our strength. How would you like me to respond to his offer, love?" Syllia softly asked.
"Tell him he can shove it up his ass. We didn't get his help before and we're still here, we'll handle things without him." Mirabelle says bitterly as she lets go of the railing.
Mirabelle turns away from the balcony and storms inside, leaving Syllia alone. Syllia lets out a sigh and quickly follows after her.
Chandler slowly sips wine from a wine glass with a golden base and glass top. The room is dimly lit with only a few candles on the walls to provide light. Sitting in a wooded chair, he spins the wine around his glass. It's a thick liquid with a dark crimson color. Each sip leaves a slight red stain on his pale upper lip. Sudden knocking from the nearby door startles him. He hastily places the glass on the floor underneath his chair.

"Come in." He says as he clears his throat.
The door quietly opens and a man steps in. The man's face was shrouded by a tattered black cloak. His arms and legs were covered in black, metal armor.
"Things didn't go as planned, sir. Brandon was able to kill the dragon and as you expected, the dragon was a demon. Its name was Dajall, summoned through a holy artifact some wretched wench used." The man explains in a hoarse voice.
"Pity, I was hoping it would kill him. What of this wench and holy artifact?" Chandler disappointingly asks.
"Dajall killed her, however, we were able to find out who she was. Her name was Jessica, her daughter was killed by a demon twenty years ago. Locals report that she went crazy, hellbent on destroying the DHA because her town was near one of our bases. A small, low-level demon slipped through our defenses and killed her daughter in the night. As to where she found the artifact, we still don't know. She managed to perfect using it, allowing her to summon monsters and demons alike. It also allowed her to teleport to her summonings, which is why she was found dead at the battle site. As for the ring, it was collected and locked away with the others as requested for all artifacts." The man explains.
"Good, each artifact we keep from Brandon prevents him from getting stronger and ultimately reaching his goal." Chandler bitterly states.
"There is one issue, Brandon's power seems to have grown significantly since the last time we monitored him. Nearly thirty-five times to be more precise, based on a spell he used at the start of the fight. He's also gotten slightly better control over his godly aura, he was able to maintain it twenty-two seconds longer than the last time he used it." The man says.

Chandler stands up with anger and throws his chair into the wall, breaking it into pieces.
"We're running out of time, dammit! What about my artifact, have there been any updates as to its location?" Chandler questions as he grits his teeth.
"Yes, we have successfully located it and a team has been dispatched. After that stranger helped us with our tracking orbs, it's gotten significantly easier to track artifacts. He also made sure to track that artifact for you." The man explains.
"Good, bring it to me the moment it's recovered. I have to move our plans ahead of time, which is not ideal, but we still have the advantage over Brandon. Mark my words, before long he will be dead." Chandler says as he gestures to the knight to leave with his hand.
The man slightly bows and walks away, his armor slightly clanking with each step. Chandler picks his glass up and hastily chugs the crimson liquid down with large gulps. His body shivers in disgust as he slams the glass onto the table. His heart begins beating rapidly and a stabbing pain hits him in the chest. He clutches his tunic tightly as he tries to control his breathing.
"I told you this already, you cannot rush this process. You're going to kill yourself at this rate, is that what you want?" A devious woman's voice questions.
"You heard what he said, we're running out of time. I can't stick to only drinking one glass a day, I need more, now!" Chandler exclaims, gripping his glass so hard it breaks.
Suddenly a woman with horns appears behind him and wraps her around him. Her light red skin softly shined from the candlelight. Two horns curled into circles atop her head like a ram's horn. She grips his tunic and leans in next to his ear.
"Relax, honey, I have everything under control. When the time comes, your new powers will be ready, I promise." She seductively says as a small black tail wraps around him.
The woman snaps her finger and all the candles go out, she lets out a seductive laugh.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
