《You're Not My Boss // Jaehyun Mafia FF》➸ CHP 16

"No, you don't understand, Taeyong. They said they're not making deals, and they actually meant it"
"There's gotta be something we could do about it"
"I don't know...Hyuna's dad is on their side and everything"
"We'll find a way, Jaehyun"
"Listen, Taeyong! There's no other-"
"What's going on?", I heard Jaehyun and Taeyong arguing for the last hour, so I finally decided to see what it was all about.
Jaehyun and Taeyong besically jumped when they heard my voice.
"Uh...we'll explain later, Hyuna", Jaehyun said,
"Um, you're going to explain to me now if this is about me and NewKidd"
"Oi, mates!', Lee Felix walked by the office, "What's going on?"
Felix stopped when he saw me in the room. "Oh...", he pursed his lips after seeing me.
"What do you mean 'oh'? Can someone just tell me what the hell is going on?"
Everyone looked around at each other. "I'd just get it over with", Felix said, "Its saves time"
I watched Jaehyun as he and Taeyong stared at Felix.
"So?", I asked, "Are you gonna tell me or what?"
Jaehyun turned to me and took a deep breath, "Look, Hyuna...We went to try to talk things out with NewKidd last night and..."
"And?", I asked.
Jaehyun opened his mouth but Taeyong spoke for him, "NewKidd's not making any deals and they're still out for you"
"Why should that matter? I'm with you guys", I said.
"Yeah, but NewKidd knows where we're located, plus your dad has the police looking for you"
"So what are you trying to say?"
"We're trying to say", Taeyong continued, "That we have two options. 1) Hand you over to NewKidd without you getting hurt, or 2) keep you here in constant danger"

"You know what option I'd go for"
Everyone was quiet.
"C'mon guys! You're not actually considering to hand me over, are you?"
"Its the only thing that would keep you safe", Jaehyun said.
"Are you crazy?! Jaehyun, they're willing to kill me at any second, and I won't be able to defend myself!"
"Yeah, but they promised not to do that"
"Promises are just pretty lies", I said, "You saw what Hansol did to you"
"Yeah well", Jaehyun scratched his head.
"Please tell me you're not being serious about this", my voice was almost a whisper. I felt trapped, and all I could do was stare at Jaehyun as I waited for his answer.
"I don't know, Hyuna"
"What do you mean?!", I shouted, "You guys said you'd keep me and Miyoung safe!"
"We're doing our best", Taeyong said.
"Ok", I sighed and tried to recollect myself, "Just...can I try and stay with you guys for now?"
I went quiet. Jaeyhun and Taeyong didn't say anything either.
"You guys are", I tried to talk, but my voice was a little choked up, "Basically the only people I have right now...and I kind of like it that way"
Jaehyun let out a little chuckle. "We like it that way, too, sweetie", he pat me on the shoulder, "And its not like we want everything to be the way it is right now"
"Things will clear up", Taeyong added.
I nodded and wiped the tears from my eyes with the sleeve of my hoodie. "It doesn't look like things will clear up, does it though?"
Jaehyun sighed, "We'll try, ok? You're like a part of the squad now, and you know what we do for each other here"
"That's right", Taeyong smiled, "But...don't get mad if-"

"If you have to turn me over?", I took the words out of Taeyong's mouth, "I'll try not to be"
"If that does happen, we'll try to get you out...But we also can't get too involved"
"And what if you guys couldn't get me out if that was to happen?"
"Then...", Taeyong started, but he wasn't able to finish. He couldn't fine the right words.
"Then we'd all just have to forget each other, huh?", I asked.
I looked everyone. Jaehyun and Taeyong were just staring at the ground now.
"That won't happen", Jaehyun tried to cheer me up.
I tried to believe Jaehyun...but what if he was wrong?

Candor: The Forgotten House
*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. As the fourth son in his family the possibility of him becoming the heir to the household was very small. But, with his talent as a mage, his potential accomplishments in the military could lead to titles of nobility and political power. However, on what would otherwise be an unremarkable night, everything he had ever known, the only people he ever cared for, and all of the plans for his future were destroyed. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. By imperial decree, all those bearing the name Candor were hunted down and executed as traitors of the Empire. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Kichiro's Rampage
Meet Kichiro, the son of a samurai. A social outcast, he leaves his home with nothing but a musket and a sword, determined to carve himself a niche in a chaotic world of dragons and leviathans. This fiction incorporates LitRPG elements, but it's not set in a VR. It's set in a fantastical world based loosely on East Asia in the 16th and 17th Century, when the Ming Dynasty was on its last legs, with the addition of magic and monsters. I totally stole the stat tables from Exterminatus, the author of Everybody Loves Large Chests, so let me credit him for that. I'm new to writing so please don't hesitate to criticise, and reviews would be greatly appreciated.
