《The Last Set || Sugawara x Reader ||》Battle of the Managers

"Man, why are we always the breakfast crew?" Mika yawns as she stretches her back.
It was 6am on the second last day of boot camp. It was crazy how the week flew by so fast. You and Mika were in charge of preparing breakfast and you were used to getting up early, unlike Mika who snoozed through her alarm multiple times. The shifts rotated from kitchen duty, referee, water bottle stock up, net set ups, and team strategizing. On top of that, Mika and you had to train Yachi on everything about volleyball.
"Ugh why couldn't we just switch with Yachiii" she groaned while rolling up her sleeping bag.
Yachi was paired up with Toma because they needed more time on the court for a better understanding. They weren't called in for kitchen duty as often as you and Mika. Usually you'd slap some sense into your best friend, but Kiyoko's letter has been on the back of your mind. You both head to the kitchen to start the day.
Why did she address it to Suga? Is there something she's not telling me?
"Hey, everything alright? You seem tired. Have you been getting any sleep lately?" Mika asked in a concerned tone. You were both cutting the pickled vegetables but you were spacing out. It was true that you weren't getting a wink of sleep from your jumble of thoughts. It felt like the sleepless nights from the accident, yet this was slightly different.
"Yeah I'm okay. I guess its kinda hard sleeping with a bunch of other people around..." you say meekly.
"It's bothering you isn't it?" Mika added as she aggressively chopped up a carrot. The head of the carrot spun before falling back down on the chopping board.
"A bit yeah." you say timidly. You continue chopping until the timer for the rice set off.
"I'll get it." you walk over to the rice cooker and scoop up the rice, distributing them in their designated bowls.
"I'm sure it's nothing (F/N). You should talk to him about it if it bothers you that much." Mika chimed as she stirred the miso soup.
I just don't want to jump into conclusions. I'm not assuming that Kiyoko dated every guy, but how can I be mad at her? She can barely remember anything. But why address a letter to him!?
"Ah (F/N)? The rice..." Mika points out and you realized you've spilled a bunch of rice on the floor and your shoes.
Mika clangs the spoon on the pot and stops stirring, grabbing your full attention. She looks at you, crosses her arms and leans back against the counter. She lets out a big sigh as if she's saying 'if you just communicated, we wouldn't be dealing with spilt rice.'
"Fine, I'll talk to him." you sigh in defeat as you take a towel to clean up your mess.
"I'm sure he'll understand." Mika affirms as she stirs the pot in a vigorous manner.
I hope so.
"So what? Are you going to ask her? Or is that too weird for you?" it was Kageyama who was talking, but to who? And what about?
"It's just *sigh* I don't know like how to tell her? Like what about Kiyoko?" Suga asks to your childhood best friend.
It's nice that they're getting along but are they talking about me? And what about Kiyoko?
"Like what if things go wrong and I mess up?" Suga asked anxiously
"What, you think she's too young?"
"No but-"

"You thought it didn't you?"
Suga remained quiet until Kageyama says,
"I'm sure she'll understand."
Understand what exactly?
Kageyama exits the boys dorm and you quickly hide behind the corner in case he figured out you were eavesdropping. You gripped the letter in your hand and your palms accumulated sweat.
Great now the letters' going to be all soggy.
Taking a deep breath, you turn the corner and the door swung open, hitting you in the face. You fall to the floor and look up at Suga who's complexion turned completely pale out of disbelief.
"AH, (F/N)! I'm so sorry! Are you okay!" He reaches a hand out to you and you take it while your other hand covers your face.
I'm so embarrassed. What if he thinks I was waiting for him...
"Were you waiting for me (F/N)?" he brushes your hair out of your face and smiles down at you. You cheeks darken as you avoid his eye contact.
"Kinda." you said in a muffled voice as your hand remained on your face. You rub your face and realize the letter slipped out of your hands.
"Oh, what's this?" Suga bent over to pick up the letter and before he opens it you mention,
"Um it's from my sister. Might want to read it in your own time."
Before you could speed walk away, he grabs your wrist, forcing you to turn around.
"Hey, I didn't even say good morning." he says sweetly.
"Well, um good morning to ya." you say nervously as you slip your hand out of his grip and quickly walk away to the kitchen. Suga was left in the hallway as his eyes drifted from the letter to you, before you left his sight.
~
"You know, I bet I can beat you on a one on one." Toma jeered from across the court as she rebounded a volleyball at the gym walls.
"Psh as if! You can't play volleyball one on one. We'd just be rallying against each other, idiot." Mika rolls her eyes at Toma who stuck her tongue out at her.
They're getting along just fine... They're so similar, it's kinda creepy.
Mika clenched her fists and bore her brooding eyes at Toma. It was lunch time and the managers usually ate first before the rest of the boys devour all the food. All of you were in the gym: Eri Miyanoshita from Ubugawa High, Mako Otaki from Shinzen High, Yukie Shirofuku, Kaori Suzumeda and Toma Mizuki from Fukurodani, and You, Mika and Yachi from Karasuno. You all had a bit of free time before the boys take the courts again.
Yukie starts counting as she points at each of you. She was calculating something and you knew what was about to happen.
"Hey it's an even number of 8, why don't we set up a quick match?" Yukie suggested making Yachi melt to the floor. She clutched her chest and scrunched up into a ball.
"Ah I don't think my heart can take thaaaat." Yachi whimpered.
"Um haha, she's scared her arms will get ripped off from a spike." you explain shyly, comforting Yachi on the floor.
"Heh, I'm not that great at volleyball either but I don't mind refereeing?" Eri-chan quietly offered. She reminded you vaguely of Yachi who was just as shy.
"Well, that settles it. A three on three Fukurodani girls vs. Karasuno plus Shinzen." Kaori stated as she wrote on the score board the team names.
Hmm. Fukurodani's girls know their stuff then...
"Woo, go Karasuno and Shinzen." Yachi peeped as her and Eri were cheering nervously from the sidelines.
When did they get there?!
"Well well well. I want to add an incentive, you know, make it more interesting..." Toma snickered as she spun the volleyball on her index finger.
Oh boy. Would you look at that, another bet.
"Like what? Switching shifts to dinner instead of breakfast?" Mika pleaded. Toma shook her head and pointed at Mika,
"I want you to confess your feelings to your crush. Ask him out on a date. You have the end of this training camp." Toma comments as she winked playfully at Mika. She batted her pretty eyelashes and swung her auburn hair to the side of her face. The rest of the managers were all 'ooohing' and waited for Mika to respond to her request.
Mika marched right up to her as her eye twitched with irritation. She snatched the volleyball from her hand and turned away from Toma.
Please don't beat up another person Mika. You already got in trouble last time.
"C'mon it's sooo obvious who it is. Every time I mention his name you always get so flustered." Toma teased.
Mika gripped the ball even tighter, it looked like she was going to pop it. You wince as you could tell she wanted to punch her. Mika suddenly turns on her heels and grunts,
"Fine and what if we win?"
She agreed?!
"Hmm... I'll do the breakfast shift for you annnd I'll tell you my relationship status with my lovely blondie" Toma smirked and her teammates facepalmed themselves.
She means Tsuki right?
"Sorry about her. She's pretty feisty." Yukie explained bashfully.
"Spicyyyy. Shall we begin?" Mako hooted and everyone nodded in agreement.
"Oooh heads or tails? First choice get to attack!" Eri-chan held up a coin she gleefully found from her pocket. Her and Yachi were smiling from the sidelines waiting to toss the coin.
"Heads." Mika stated.
"Tails" Toma said simultaneously
Eri-chan flipped the coin and in slow motion you watch if fall into Yachi's palm. Yachi nervously covers it as Mika and Toma's eyes darted towards her. Yachi was sweating profusely as she slowly removed her shaking hand, revealing the coin.
"Ha! Tails. Me first!" Toma stole back the ball, irritating Mika even more.
Calm down... It's just a game.
Toma served first and damn she's good. Her dad taught her well. You successfully rebound the ball and Toma makes a 'tsk' sound but smirks at your receive.
You're not the only one with a famous dad.
"Nice receive!" Mika yells
The ball flies to Mako who successfully sets it to Mika. Mika charges after the ball and Toma jumps to block her. It was an aerial combat that would make anyone's jawdrop. They were both pretty tall but Mika successful spiked the ball and it went soaring past Yukie and Kaori.
"Damn not bad Mitsuki." Toma huffed.
Yukie rolled back the ball to your side and Yachi flipped the score board. 01 vs 00.
"We're just getting started." Mika spat.
You take the ball in your hands and bounce it up and down to get the feel. Backing up from the end line you toss the ball and hit it with great force. Kaori yells,
"Mine!"
The ball hit her arm but it rolls off in the opposite direction, scoring another point.
"Just like the Tiny Giant..." Mako murmured to herself.
You smile but keep it to yourself.
Dad would've laughed his head off right now. To see the look on Fukurōdani, a champion school, struggle against Karasuno.
The ball rolls back to you and you attempt a float serve that Yamaguchi taught you. The ball gracefully lands on the other side of the court and Yukie yells,
"It's out!"
But the ball lands just barely grazing the end line. Eri came to observe and yells,
"In!"
"Nani! That was clearly out!" Toma argued.
"Well someones a sore loser." Mika sticks her tongue out and pulls down one eye bag.
"Well, we'll see who's the sore loser..." Toma muttered.
~
We got up to five sets, just like the finals. It was exhausting. Your bad arm and leg were about to give in but for once, you didn't want to stop just yet. It was nostalgic playing with other girls. Sometimes you regretted not joining the girls volleyball team.
"One touch!" Yachi yells from the sidelines, chanting the Karasuno cheer.
You spike the ball powerfully over but Kaori bumps it back into the air and yells,
"CHANCE BALL!"
Who will it go to this time? Back to Toma again?
Toma propelled upwards and all three of you triple blocked her. She spiked it directly at the Mako's hand on purpose to redo her spike.
When did she learn that?
Toma came sprinting across the court in order to spike at a different angle. Yukie set her another ball and Mika ran in Toma's direction.
Its another quick!
Toma was at the climax of her jump and Mika skyrocketed upwards to stop her. A loud 'BAM' echoed through the gym as Mika successfully blocked her.
Wow, Mika's been practicing too...
"NICE KILL!" you yell.
"Bastard..." Toma muttered.
"Tch." Mika scolded
The scores:
Karasuno/ Shenzin Vs. Fukurōdani
20 25 (win)
25 (win) 23
26 (win) 24
30 32 (win)
26 25
(one point lead)
One more point and we win...
"Well damn, I didn't know the girls all have game too." Kuroo commentated as he came inside the gym with Kenma. You turned around, you realize all the other boys were watching from the balcony.
Oh how nerve racking. I was so concentrated on the game I didn't notice them.
You held the ball in your hands as it was your turn to serve, but you stop and notice Nekoma's manager,
"Sorry senpai. Are we taking up the court?" you ask apologetically
"No no not at all girls! We all enjoy watching, right boys?" Nekoma's manager shooed away your gesture. He nods to the rest of the boys who were all gawking and swooning.
"WHHYYYY DON'T WE HAVE A MANAGER!?" Yamamoto sobbed as he kneeled down in defeat
"There, there." Tanaka and Nishinoya patted him gently in the back.
"Serve it! Let's get this over with!" Toma yelled impatiently, jolting you back into the game.
Okay. One more serve and we're done.
You threw the ball high in the air and jump with all your might. You felt a painful sensation run through your leg but the adrenaline in your body masked it.
"HERE YOU GOOO!" you shout and you hit the ball just how your dad taught you and the ball spins forward in a rapid pace.
The ball hits just the top of net and Kaori successfully dives for the ball and it's up in the air. But before Toma could spike it, Mika gets a hold of it first and slams it down . Eri-chan blows the whistle and you, Mika and Mako jump up in down in glee. The rest of the Karasuno boys scream for your victory,
"KARASUNOOO FIGHT!"
"AND SHINZEEEEN!" the Shinzen boys howled as Mako throws a flying kiss at them. You could see one of the boys pretending to faint and all of them topple over for the fun of it.
"SEE! That could be us but noooo." Yamamoto complained as Kenma continued to ignored him by concentrating on his video game.
Mika and Mako unexpectedly lift you upwards and prop you on Mika's shoulders. For once you felt tall and invincible. Mako threw you a towel and you joyfully whip it around in the air.
"WOOOO YOU CAN SUCK IT TOMA!" Mika squawks at her and Toma just rolls her eyes in disgust.
You notice Tsukishima displaying a slight smile toward Mika's direction and Suga was beside him brightly smiling back at you. You and Suga make brief eye contact but your eyes falter as you remember the stupid letter again.
~
"Seriously what was that all about? Toma was so aggressive all day. I mean, more aggressive than usual" Tsukishima chuckled as he walked with me back to the dorms.
Stupid bitch didn't even keep her promise. What is her relationship status to Tsukki? Why would that matter to me anyway. Mika, you're just overthinking.
"You're not going to practice more?" I asked changing the subject
Thank goodness I won that game. Maybe I should stop saying yes to gambles like that
"Hey. Answer my question. And no I'm tired already. We're already done practice games anyway, what's the point of staying longer." Tsukishima stopped walking and put an hand on my shoulder
I sigh and turn around to face him. His glasses were crooked and his fingers were bandaged from all the blocking. Earlier, he helped me tape my fingers that were sprained from blocking Toma's crazy spikes.
Tsukki really doesn't want to perfect his blocking? Why is always demotivated? And curse that girl. She fricken ruined my fingers.
"Do you like Toma? You're childhood friends aren't you?" I ask suddenly
Gah! Why did I ask that!?
Tsukishima's stoic face slowly displayed a small grin as he lets out a small chuckle.
"Toma-san... we grew up together in Europe and our parents are family friends."
I gulp but had the courage to ask again, "So you like her?"
"She's uh-"
"MY WITTLE TSUKI!!" Toma jumped and hugged him from behind. Tsukishima let go of my shoulder as he stood shocked at Toma grasping onto his mid-section. He tried to pry her arms away, but her grip was locked on him.
"Oooh Tsuki! You've been working out I see!" Toma squeezes his torso, irking me even more.
Before I could beat the pulp out of this chick, someone in the distance yells, "Hey! You there! Yes you two, the tall ones! Help us block will you?"
It was Kuroo and that boy with grey hair and owl-like eyes.
"Bokutooo!" Toma squealed gleefully. She let go of Tsukishima who suddenly relaxed his shoulders in relief. Toma ran up to Bokuto who embraced her tightly.
"My Toma-saan. Where have you been all day!" Bokuto asked looking down at Toma before kissing her on the nose.
GAH?! WAH?! SHE'S NOT AFTER TSUKKI?!
"Hope my girlfriend hasn't been giving you too much trouble." Bokuto sighed and looked at Toma again.
"G-girlfrieeend?!" I stutter in shock. I felt like fainting but I had a sudden wave of relief.
"Well what are you two waiting for? Bokuto needs blockers. Or else he won't shut up about it." Kuroo explained
"Please." the boy behind Kuroo begged.
His name if I recall it Akaashi. He's Fukorodani's setter.
"Fine." Tsukishima agreed begrudgingly. He took hold of my hand and dragged me inside the gym.
"Were you anticipating that Toma was my girlfriend?" Tsukishima stated
"Wha- HELL NO! Why would I care about that!?" I retorted but still held onto his hand.
Tsukki chuckled to himself and my face felt hot again.
"You and Toma are quite alike."
"Psh how, w-why would you say such a thing!"
"Well you're both stubborn and both left handed..."
I awkwardly shift away from him in discomfort
Ugh, it's even worse that he's comparing to .
"but..." he leans forward and whispers something in my ear
"I like you better."
He walks away to join the rest of the boys on the court and I was stunned by his comment. I shake my head and try to disregard it the rest of the practice. Glancing towards Tsukki, he's being taught by Kuroo on how to position his hands properly. Looking towards Bokuto who was playfully messing up Toma's hair, I couldn't help but smile at the odd couple
I don't know why, but I think I want what they have...
"Mika are you coming or what?" Kei calls out to me, bringing me back to reality. My heart beats faster and I smile awkwardly back at him
but with him.

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer.
