dedicated to the lovely (she's awesome af and encouraged me to publish these one-shots just sitting on my drafts. go check her fics out, she's very good at writing)
Third Person POV
"Papa, stop it! I'm not a kid anymore. I can handle myself!" Julian Chen-Yang said as Brett Yang was buttoning his shirt up. "I don't get why I have to go to this concert thing anyway. It's not like I'm a classical musician." He huffed again, removing Brett's hand on the buttons of his shirt.
"I know you're not a classical musician but it would mean so much for me and your dad for you to go. We want you to meet one of our favorite violinists. This is Hilary Hahn we're talking about." Brett coaxed Julian. "Hilary Hahn had been our inspiration back when were studying in University. She was one of the reasons why I wanted to be a soloist." Brett added.
"But you're not a soloist now, aren't you Papa? Why not?" His tone half curious and half condescending.
"Honey, I'm not a soloist because if I became one, I wouldn't be where I am now. I love being with your dad and you. Even if I was given the opportunity now, I'd rather continue YouTube with your dad. I love you too much to let you guys go." Brett said honestly, kissing Julian's cheek.
"Papa, don't do that. You're embarrassing me." Julian said with annoyance, wiping his cheek.
"Sorry, I got carried away. It isn't bad to express my love for you, is it?" Brett said, pinching the teenager's cheek lightly.
"Not when I'm fourteen, pa." Julian sighed. Brett chuckled lightly.
"You guys ready to go?" Asked Eddy.
"Yup, we'll be late if we don't go now." Brett said, kissing his husband's cheek.
"Ewwww."
The husbands laugh together as they walk to the car. The ride wasn't as long as what they had intended. When they left the car, Julian started to talk to his dad.
"Dad, since you're not as strict as Papa, can I not go?" Julian asked.
"Baby, as much as I want to give in to you, this is important for me and Brett. Besides, Hilary is amazing and we haven't seen her live in ages!" Eddy remarked.
"Fine, but you owe me one, dad." Julian said grumpily. "I could be home and playing video games, or practicing." He added.

"You wouldn't practice if we aren't around. Me and your pa have eyes everywhere, you know." Eddy said, kidding.
"Says the ones who has glasses." Julian kids back.
"That's why it makes sense if we have four eyes each." Eddy said, laughing at his joke.
Julian didn't say anything more as they enter the concert hall. This wasn't the first time he had went to concerts with his parents. In fact, it was so common for them to go but Julian didn't feel like it at the moment. He didn't even feel bad for saying all the things he did.
They took their seats and Eddy was in the middle. Only because Julian said that he didn't want to be next to Eddy. He didn't know why he had this loathing for Brett, maybe it's because he was too much like him when he was younger. Of course, Julian wouldn't know that. He always saw his father as the quiet yet caring father. Eddy was the one he could open up to.
In a way, the two men wouldn't get along because they were too alike.
The orchestra started tuning and they say back. Hilary was playing the Barber Violin Concerto, something that Eddy holds so dear to him. They agreed to meet after the concert. It was a good opportunity to catch up with her over dinner, so Brett made reservations at this family style restaurant.
Once Hilary started playing and Brett closed his eyes. Eddy did the same and held his husband's hand. It was a small affection but Julian felt a pinch in his heart when he saw this small gesture. He closed his eyes too, taking in the music. He felt tears stream down his face as he saw the image of his fathers. He was lucky to be in a family like this. They give him everything that he could, so he should return it to them tonight.
Once the concert was over, they meet Hilary backstage.
"Hey guys!" Hilary said as they hugged.
"Hey Hilary! We missed you." Eddy said, smiling with excitement.
"Shall we go?" Hilary said, leading them out of the backstage.
They exit the concert hall altogether and went to the car. The drive was full of conversations and catching up on life. The drive wasn't that long as they were already on the restaurant.
"I hope you miss Chinese food because this is a good restaurant." Eddy said to Hilary as they say down.
"I do, touring life made me miss a lot of things. I actually miss my kids and weirdly, they grow up so fast!" She exclaimed.

"Couldn't agree more, Hilary. I mean, we don't tour anymore because of this little nugget." Eddy said, ruffling Julian's hair.
"Don't you miss it a little? Traveling the world?" Hilary asked.
"We do, but we'd go crazy and miss Julian even more... I'd rather not see the world again if it means staying Julian's side." Brett said honestly.
"That's true. Especially he's growing up so fast. I don't want to miss out because there will come a time where he doesn't need us anymore, right Julian?" Eddy asked.
They continued talking about anything and everything. That just made Julian feel guilty about everything that he had done just tonight. He doesn't say anything about it but continued eating. He just thought about what his fathers said. He knows that he will be independent, yes, but he will never stop needing his parents.
After dinner, they drop Hilary off of the hotel she was staying at. Brett had already fallen asleep in the passenger's seat. Julian saw and he used it as an opportunity to ask his dad a question.
"Dad, is it true what you both said at the restaurant tonight?"
"Of course. We'd rather have you than anything or anyone else."
"Dad, why is Papa so uptight and strict?"
"It's just how he always was with you, you know. He was always like that with things and people he doesn't want to lose. You see how he never missed a day of practice? He believed that he will lose it. Same goes with you, actually. He just doesn't want you to skip away so easily because he knows that there will come a time when you don't need us anymore." Eddy said honestly.
"That's not true, I mean, I'll be independent but that doesn't mean that I won't need need you guys anymore. I'll always need you no matter how old or how far I am from you." Julian admitted.
"You're just like your Papa, you know that? Maybe that's why you butt heads sometimes."
"What do you mean?"
"I met him when he was your age. He's just like you, the only difference is he was so determined to become a soloist. Also, he was such a rebel. Don't tell him that I told you but he was a party animal when we were in uni. A hangover was the reason why we got together." Eddy said, slightly chuckling.
"No way. Papa? I refuse to believe that he was that fun."
"Well, you better. He was exactly like you. Maybe it's the reason why you're closer to me, but give your papa a chance. He just wants you to feel that he loved you. That's how he is with me. He was never an affectionate man but he means his words." Eddy said. "Did you know that he was afraid before we got you because he was scared he might fail as a father? That's why he's stricter and more uptight. He doesn't want to lose you." Eddy added, turning off the engine of the car.
"Oh, I feel terrible now. Thanks dad." Julian said, laughing nervously.
"You could always make it up to him. Don't think to much about it. For now, help me close and lock the car doors. I need to carry your dad to our bed."
"Okay." Julian said, obeying his father.
Once they enter their house, Eddy went directly to their room and helped a very lazy Brett get out of his suit, leaving him in his boxers. Julian was doing the same thing, getting ready for bed. Once Eddy was done with Brett, he does the same thing for himself. He pulled the blanket over their shoulders and Brett held him close out of habit.
Once Julian was done, he knocked on his parents door.
"Dad, Papa, can I sleep here?"
"Of course, c'mere." Brett mumbled sleepily, holding Eddy close to him to make room for Julian on the left side of the bed.
"Actually, can I sleep in the middle?" Julian requested.
"Sure, okay." Brett added, pushing Eddy away lightly.
Julian settled on the bed, pulling the blanket over his shoulders. Brett was about to turn around but Julian stopped him.
"Papa, hug me."
Brett didn't know what was with the change of heart but he didn't complain. He held the small boy's body next to him. The boy smiled and fell asleep soundly.
bonus:
It was three am and both men were awake. They still have not adjusted their circadian rhythm. Julian was still in Brett's arm and Brett was careful not to move too much. Eddy smiled and made their foreheads touch.
"You talked to him, didn't you?" Brett whispered.
"Something like that." Eddy said, eyes still closed.
"You always know how to get anyone with your words, don't you?"
"It's the reason why we've been together for a long time, you know?"
"I love you, Eddy."
"I love you, too Bretty."

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
