《Bird Set Free | Natasha Romanoff ✓》Chapter Thirty

Aquila sat on the Quinjet, her foot tapping against the floor as they touched down in Sokovia.
"Ultron knows we're coming," Steve said, looking all of them directly in the eye. "Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire. And that's what we signed up for, the people of Sokovia? They didn't. So our priority is getting them out. All they want is to live their lives in peace and that's not gonna happen today but we can do our best to protect them. And we can get the job done. We find out what Ultron's been building."
Aquila smirked at Steve as it seemed his speech-making abilities to rile them up before a mission only got better the longer that he was an Avenger.
"We find Romanoff," Steve continued, looking over to Aquila, recusing Natasha was a mission that had been given to her and Bruce. "And, we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him. It's about whether he's right."
Aquila with Bruce following behind her quickly made their way towards the Hydra Base that they had infiltrated only a few weeks ago.
Aquila was ready to fight again once Natasha was safe again but she could sense that once Natasha was rescued, Bruce wanted to get as far from there as possible. The world had already seen the Hulk and Bruce was scared of the publicity his last appearance had caused.
But the team would try to not have the situation call for a code green if they could help it.
Fallen bricks crushed under Aquila's footsteps as they walked further into the building, hoping to find Natasha in the basement.
"Natasha!" Aquila called out.
"Aquila?"
"Oh, thank goodness." Aquila breathed as she turned the corner to see Natasha looking a little worse for wear but alright. "You okay?"
"Yeah."
"The team's in the city, it's about to light up," Bruce said from behind Aquila.
"I don't suppose you found a key lying around somewhere?" Natasha asked.
"Actually we did," Aquila replied, gesturing to Bruce to hand her the blaster gun that they had found while looking through the building for Natasha. "Back up."
Natasha backed up, tucking herself behind a wall as Aquila easily blew the lock off the door, the bars creaking ominously as Aquila helped Natasha throw them open.

Natasha quickly threw her arms around Aquila, enjoying the chance to have her arms around her for once.
"So that discussion we need to have. . ." Aquila trailed off with a chuckle, before quickly kissing Natasha in relief even though Bruce was standing right by.
"So," Natasha said as they broke apart. "What's our play?"
"We've got to get out of here," Bruce said, just as the ground started to shake, debris falling down around them.
"Bruce. . ." Natasha trailed off.
"I think we will need the other guy." Aquila finished.
It didn't take long for Bruce to completely transform into the Hulk and Aquila to transform into Talons.
"Go be a hero," Natasha told Hulk before allowing Aquila to pick up Natasha in her talons.
"I just thought I should say before we attempt this that I've never done this before."
"Well, if you drop me, it will only be to my death."
"You are not helping," Aquila muttered.
Aquila swooped through the city, taking out Ultron bots, helping civilians to safety.
The city slowly rose higher, causing many civilians to fall off the sides but Aquila had ended saving many lives just by using her talons to catch people.
"Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job; tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed, walk it off." Steve's voice was clearly heard through her comm.
Eventually, after plenty of fights, the number of Ultron bots seemed to diminish allowing Aquila to meet back up with Natasha and Steve, who had been busy defeating their own bots.
"Cap, these people are going nowhere. If Stark finds a way to blow this rock. . ." Natasha said to Steve as Aquila landed lightly beside her.
"Not 'till everyone's safe."
"Everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no math there." Aquila said to Steve through her comm.
"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it."
"I didn't say we should leave," Natasha said, picking up Aquila so that she could rest on Nat's arm. "There are worse ways to go. Where else am I gonna get a view like this?"
"Glad you like the view, Romanoff," A new voice suddenly came through their comm, leaving Aquila to let out a caw gleefully. "It's about to get better."
As the Helicarrier rose in front of them, they all looked at it, still slightly in shock.

"Nice, right?" Fury continued. "Pulled her out of the mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty but she'll do."
"Dusty is an understatement," Keira's voice then came over. "But what's up? Looks like you guys need some help."
"Fury, you son of a bitch." Steve suddenly said as Aquila whipped around, blinking at Steve is disbelief.
"Oooh!" Fury said. "You kiss your mother with that mouth?"
"This is S. H. I. E. L. D.?" Pietro asked, approaching the trio.
"This is what S. H. I. E. L. D. is supposed to be," Steve replied as the speedster smiled.
"This is not so bad."
"Let's load 'em up," Steve said as lifeboats began flying towards the floating city, revealing Keira who helped them load people onto the lifeboats.
Aquila quickly worked her way through the city, picking civilians up by the collar of their shirts helping them to safety. Most people did not like her strategy very much but a few did, likening it to being on a carnival ride.
"Avengers, time to work for a living," Tony announced through the comms as they all quickly made their way to the church in the center of town. "You joining us, Keira?"
"Romanoff? You and Cadman better not be hiding in a corner somewhere."
"Well, I'm right here," Aquila said, swooping down behind Tony. "And Nat's not too far behind me."
"Exactly." Nat chimed in. "So relax, Shell-Head."
Natasha eventually ran in and joined the rest of the team. "What's the drill?"
"This is the drill. If Ultron gets a hand on the core, we lose."
"Is that the best you can do?" Thor yelled at Ultron as he showed up.
Ultron raised his hands in the air as hundreds of Ultron bots gathered around him.
"You had to ask," Steve said from beside Aquila.
"This is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you, against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"
"Well, like the old man said," Tony said. "Together."
As the words fell out of Tony's mouth, Ultron's army raced forward, charging towards them.
Aquila steeled herself before leaping into the air, just as the first bot approached her.
All the Avengers were using all of their abilities to the limit, doing anything in their power to eliminate the Ultron bots. The team worked together, perfectly as they all move in sync. It certainly wasn't a moment that happened often.
Aquila fought side by side with Nat, both of them often helping out the other if an Ultron bot got too close for their liking.
Suddenly, an Ultron bot that had broken from the main group rose in the air as considering everyone else who could fly was occupied, it was Aquila's turn.
She took after it, her talons stopping it in mid-air. It hadn't gotten far but she quickly noticed other bots trying to do the same.
"They are trying to leave the city," Aquila said.
"We can't let them, not even one," Tony replied. "Rhodey!"
"We gotta move out," Steve said as Aquila swooped back down to join the main crew again. "Even I can tell the air is getting thin. You guys get to the boats, I'll sweep for stragglers, be right behind you."
"What about the core?" Clint asked.
"I'll protect it. It's my job." Wanda replied as her twin made a face.
Aquila quickly flew to the lifeboats, searching for anyone else that they had left behind on her way.
She eventually made it to one of the boats to find Clint there but no Nat.
She transformed back in the air, rolling across the ground when she landed. After brushing her hair out of her face, she turned to Clint.
"Where's Nat?"
"Lullaby."
"Ah."
However, their conversation came to a quick halt as a woman screeched a boy's name.
"Costel!" The woman screamed, pointing firmly towards a pile of rubble. "We were in the market."
Clint quickly ran over to rescue the boy, Aquila's eyes widened as Ultron appeared shooting in every direction in his final attempt to get rid of the Avengers.
She tried running over but Pietro intervened instead, the bullets ripping through his body. "You didn't see that coming."
After making sure the boy made it to the boat safely, Aquila raced back over to where Clint sat next to Pietro's body, her hand was clasped firmly across her mouth as she looked on in shock.
Natasha suddenly appeared beside her, gently leading Aquila back to the boat.
Aquila was immensely happy to see the redhead was alright but was too tired to say anything. She eventually found herself with her head in Natasha's lap as the reality settled on her.
It seemed the longer that the Avengers were a team, the consequences for their actions only got worse.
They had certainly gotten lucky this time with only Pietro who had lost his life when plenty of them had had close calls but their luck would slowly run out.

Sanguine
The Coles are probably the definition of a small dysfunctional family, even if they weren’t the worst in existence; they would probably be lauded as an example of the term. The Coles were a small family though. The father, Oliver Cole, was an asshole ex-football jock who bounced around in small paying jobs after wasting most of his life drinking, drugging and whoring. The daughter, Stacy Cole, was smart, but had many issues including anger, trouble with authority, and occasional suicidal thoughts, and was kicked out of many a school for disruptive behaviour. The son, Mike Cole, was innocent, and tried his best to be kind to anyone and everyone, however his own speech impediment, and slow nature only aided people to bully and belittle him, including his own father. The Coles were indeed a dysfunctional family. At least they were, until they got to the small town near the border between the United States and Canada, Sanguine. Welcome to Sanguine. You will stay. With the exception of the first chapter, each chapter only follows one character. The first chapter is the only chapter in which I will include 'Sides' where it follows a different character. This is a short Lovecraftian story, it won't go above seventeen chapters. Note: the book cover is my first attempt, it might not even remain like it is, I was just tired of seeing the standard 'no cover' thing on it.
