《delivery girl》Ch.3

Daniel stood as still as he possibly could as observed his own sleeping body, like he was scared of waking himself up.
Actually, he was scared of waking himself up.
He walked back into the bathroom and turned on the lights.
He looked in the mirror, tilting his head, opening his mouth, and flexing the new muscles, watching as the reflection mimicked his actions.
He looked down at the body's hands, wiggling the long fingers.
He moved to peek his head out of the bathroom, and to where his bed was tucked into the corner of his small apartment.
His original body was still sleeping peacefully.
He felt the heartbeat of the body he was in, and the blood pumping through the muscles that didn't belong to him.
Daniel gulped as he realized that no, 'This is not a dream!'.
From outside of the apartment, nobody would know about the crisis Daniel was struggling with.
Daniel's real body was snoozing away.
'Freaky!!'
Daniel had folded his newly long limbs to make himself appear smaller and huddled in a corner, trying to research his symptoms on his phone.
'No information online...'
Daniel's fingers hovered over the call button as he thought of his next course of action.
'Police? 911? Should I call mom?'
He shuddered when he pictured himself strapped to a cold metal table, masked doctors preparing to prod him with sharp needles.
'Not the police or hospital!!'
Next Daniel conjured up an image of his frail, smiling mother.
'And mom...'
He paused.
"Let's not tell her for now." He decided aloud.
He pressed his lips together as he looked down at his sleeping body.
He crouched over his sleeping body.
'Let's wake me up. I'll listen to myself.' He concluded.
He placed his hands on his other body, trying not to shudder at the weird thought, and began to shake his sleeping form.
"Hey, excuse me, please wake up." He said politely.
'I'm speaking formally to myself.' He realized.

He began to shake his body a tad bit more roughly.
"Excuse me, please get up. Please. Hello?"
His body drooled onto his pillow.
Daniel scowled down at himself.
"Hey!" He snapped, flipping his sleeping body over like a pancake.
Daniel jolted, and the next thing he knew his eyes were opening, and he was looking at his ceiling.
'What's this?'
He moved his hand so it was in front of his face.
'Chubby hand...' He blandly noted, but after a few seconds...
'It's my body!'
Daniel stared at his own hand in shock.
'A dream?!'
'I feel so tired.' He internally groaned as he got up from his bed. 'Gotta pee...'
'What a shame, that dream was freaky... but wonderful.' He thought with a sigh.
'Gotta get to the bathroom.' Daniel thought as he moved to actually get out of bed, but his knee bumped into warm lump.
'Heh? What?'
He looked to see what he had bumped into, and audibly gasped, his eyes growing large.
There on the ground was the body of the wonder boy from his so called dream.
'Is that me?!'
Daniel felt a chill run up his spine.
'Doesn't... seem like a dream...'
He began to shake the muscular body, just like he had done last night, but the other way around.
"Excuse me, hey." He whispered to the body.
"Hey!" Daniel snarled, thrashing the sleeping form.
Daniel's vision suddenly went dark, and we woke up again, looking at his original body.
He gasped.
"Hey, excuse me." He began to repeat the process of waking up the other body and falling asleep the one he was in.
'I had no idea why this body was created!'
Daniel clenched the fist of his new body.
'I can't tell anyone but..'
'If I fall asleep! I wake up in the other body!'
Daniel cozied himself up in bed in his original body.
'Sleepy... gotta sleep. One sheep, two sheep's.' And he was out cold.

Daniel sat up in his second body.
'Cuz I was sleeping, I feel refreshed!'
'The sleeping me won't wake up by itself.'
Daniel remembered sitting awake for an entire night in his second body, waking for his original to wake up.
'I have to fall asleep to change bodies. No matter how long I wait, that body won't wake up. I'm so sleepy...'
'If I force myself to wake up, the other body will automatically fall asleep!'
Daniel slapped his original body awake.
'If I force him awake.' He began, and his second body passed out when he woke up in his original.
'The body passes out.'
He rubbed at the place he was smacked himself, 'That was harsh...'
'The sleeping body feels hunger and needs to go to the bathroom too, since it's an alive body!'
He remembered waking up in his original body in a rough shape, the second body sleeping peacefully next to him.
'Geez... I slept all day in this body. My head is heavy, I'm starving and I've gotta pee like a racehorse.'
'I tried to resist sleeping... but eventually got tired and fell asleep, then it bore hard on the other me!'
Daniel recalled staying awake for 20 hours in his second body, and then waking up after having slept 29 hours, and not waking up on the right side of the bed.
'I need a good sleep schedule for my health! Let's change bodies every twelve hours!'
'My consciousness was active 24/7!'
'But when I changed to the sleeping body, my well rested brain feels so refreshed.' Daniel happily noted when he woke up in his second body.
'If I killed one body, would only one remain?' Daniel thought in his second body, looking down at his now less appealing original form.
'I'm not brave enough to try, there's no guarantee of survival.'
'It's tomorrow!! I guess I gotta go to school, no one will understand my situation.' Daniel thought, his face buried in his hands as he sat in the corner of his room.
'School...'
Daniel pictured his old bullies looming over him, and gulped.

The next day, two uniform clad girls whispered back and forth.
"Oh! There's Beom." The brunette whispered.
"He dyed his hair.. looks cute." The blonde responded.
Said boy struggled to hide his smile.
'Hoohoo, they're staring at me. The second semester is my time to shine.' He thought excitedly, trying to subtly glance around to see who else was whispering about him.
"There are a lot of hunks in the practical music department." The girls continued their gossip.
"Eli in the beauty department is super cute."
Then, a tall figure with broad shoulders brushed past the two girls, interrupting them.
They turned to scold the stranger, but were suddenly frozen in place with blushes growing on their cheeks.
The same bulky figure accidentally bumped Beom, who was admiring his reflection.
"Sorry about that." He apologized.
Beom whipped around to give the stranger a piece of his mind.
"Hey, watch where you're going!" He snarled.
"I'm really sorry." The form repeated, though his mind was elsewhere. 'My body is so light..' He thought.
Beom's jaw dropped when he saw who had bumped into him.
"Are you okay?" A bystander asked, seeing his shocked face. 'Is he hurt?'
'With this higher line of sight, the world looks tiny.' The mystery man thought as he walked away, leaving Beom and the two gossiping girls star struck.
Even students who caught sight of him as he walked past blushed and gasped, but he didn't notice.
Daniel failed to notice all of the people who didn't even bother to hide the fact that they were... admiring his physical features.
'I ended up buying the uniform that fit this body. ' He thought, blissfully unaware.
'I hope no one bullies me.' A small smile spread across his lips, striking an arrow through the hearts of anyone within a five mile radius.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. He slowly backs up until his back is against the wall like my own, "You're..my neighbor?" He points to my door and I nod my head quickly. He hums softly, "You been here a while?" He asks and I nod my head once again. He chuckles, "Ya head hurt?" I nod again but stop as he laughs softly, "I-I mean.. no.. it doesn't." My cheeks burn red as I look at my shoes, "I-It doesn't hurt.." I repeat like a dummy and listen to him clear his throat, "So do you actually live there or was it bull?" He puts his box down before walking over to one of the grey bins. I nosily watch as he pulls out a big grey sweatshirt, "Here." He holds it out for me to take and I stare at him with wide eyes, "F-For me?" I hesitantly grab the soft fabric as he chuckles, "Nah for ya mom."
