《Our Toxic Love》5.

The days and nights flew by after my encounter with Draco Malfoy. I saw him very rarely and even when I did he didn't acknowledge my presence most of the time especially when he was with his group. I got the occasional glare every now and then but I tried my best to put him to the back of my mind even though it wasn't as easy as it may first seem. For whatever reason he had an unbelievable talent for making an entire room follow each one of his footsteps. I would be crazy if I didn't notice the way the Slytherin girls looked at him, like he was some god, he certainly had a god complex but that's as far as it went.
I had been spending quite a lot of time the last few days with Harry as he prepared for his first task. I waited at the corridor entrance whilst he spoke to Cedric about the dragons, he was adamant on telling him even though I explained I wouldn't be too sure he would of returned the favour. I watched as Harry had a run in with Ron for what felt like the 100th time and as we were about to walk away I heard his voice.
"Why so tense Potter?" There Draco was up a tree sneering at Harry on the ground. "My father and I have a bet you see, I don't think you're going to last 10 minutes in this tournament" he gracefully dropped to the ground and began closing the distance between the two of them. "He disagrees, he thinks you won't last 5" I realised this wasn't going to end well so I began my run to Harry and before I'd even got there I could see Professor Moody levitating some ferret. By the time I could figure out what had happened McGonagall was already transforming Draco back to his normal human self. I couldn't help but release a snigger seeing Draco for once not being completely in charge of every situation.
"That is quite enough students, Ivy please return Mr. Malfoy to the Slytherin Common room and wait for him to feel...more like himself. As for the rest of you please return to your day and get to your lessons immediately."

"Wait what? I was just a passer by? Why punish me?" I widened my eyes and held my hands out with confusion.
"Miss Drayheart, now" I knew her tone was stern enough that she wouldn't be changing her mind.
"I don't need her help. I'm capable of walking back to the common room." Draco sneered
"Now!" This time McGonagall looked ready to kill so I set off on my way. We walked in complete silence at least 2 metres away from each other at all times. Why I had been selected to do this I will never know. When we reached the common room I saw Draco wince and grab his head whilst holding onto the sofa.
"Are you okay? Do you need a seat or a drink?" I put my bag down and made my way closer to him.
"Not from you thanks, pretending to care now are we?" Draco's tone was harsh and sharp.
"I've never not cared I'm just a nice person, you should try it sometime. Well I'm going to go if you aren't even going to attempt to play nice" I spun around on my heel and was heading straight to the door.
"OK! Wait! I could use some help." When I circled myself back round I could see the disappointment on Draco's face that he actually needed something from me.
"Ok and what would that be Mr. Malfoy" I smirked at his obvious annoyance.
"Some water" his words cold.
"Now what do we say" I couldn't help but allow my smirk to develop into a full blown smile.
"Don't push it Ivy! Or I will shut you up"His eyes turning to a piercing glare.
His words took me back, I took a moment to soften and lower my voice. "Is that a threat or a promise?" I spun back round to head to the kitchen but not before I caught a glimpse of the surprise on his face from my choice of words. I felt like I had achieved a small victory. Me, Ivy Drayheart managed to make THE Draco Malfoy speechless.

Harry did so unbelievably well in his task, I honestly felt so proud and he had shared with me so much about how upset he was with Ron so I was extremely happy to know that they'd made friends again. I can't say I spoke with either Ron or Hermoine much but they seemed quite nice.
"So are you excited for the Yule Ball" Harry looked up from his book.
"We'll just another occasion to be alone so not particularly" I laughed.
"Well about that, erm I was wondering if you er fancied going with me?" I looked up in sheer shock. Me? As what? A date?
"Oh Harry, I don't know what to say" I hoped my face didn't give too much concern away.
"As friends of course! I just don't want to be alone either!" He gave me a reassuring smile but something told me that maybe that wasn't true. The girls were swooning him at the moment because of the Tri Wizard Tornament. Something in his eyes told me different but maybe I was wrong.

"Oh for goodness sake! My earring has just snapped" Pansy was holding the remains of her blue earrings to match her blue floor length dress.
"I think I have a silver pair you could borrow if you'd like?" I could see she wanted to send back a sharp witty answer but this desperate time for her meant she had no other choice than to accept my help.
"Yes....please" I handed over the earrings and watched as she fitted them in her ears.
"You look really pretty" I smiled over to her
"Thanks, you too" It took me a minute to absorb that I just had received a compliment off Pansy Parkinson and by the time I had she had left the room. I gave myself one last check over, my black satin dress draped just right onto the floor and my hair was as good as it was going to get, so I guess it was time.
I made my way to the top of the stairs and before I started my descend I noticed Draco. Part of me wished he would turn round and the other did not, what good would come from it anyway. Just another reason to dislike him probably. I slowly took each step with caution as I knew that tonight was not the night I needed my clumsiness to kick in and as I reached the half way platform I felt his eyes on me. I looked up and caught my breath but before I could even look at him properly his eyes had already darted elsewhere.
I took the two final steps before I heard Harry.
"Wow...you look..so..you look lovely" I smiled from ear to ear just looking at his face. He had the kindest eyes with so much love behind them.
"Well you scrub up well too Mr Potter, shall we?" I raised my arm out to loop into his.
I watched him take a deep breath "We shall".
The night was filled with dancing and laughter, I even managed to speak to Dumbledore for a small section of the night and had told him about my growing friendship with Harry and how I'm enjoying my classes and even like all of my professors. Well nearly but who really got on with snape?.
"Ok everyone now swap with the partner to your left for this dance." As I looked over to my left that person had already gone to someone else, Harry had been dragged in by one of the many girls lusting after him. So I stood alone, I turned around to begin parting my way through the crowd when I felt someone grab hold of my wrist.
My shock when I saw Draco's face was immense to say the least. He removed his hand from my wrist and held it out in front of me.
"May I have this dance?"

Marrow
Marrow was old... older than me or you. Older than the nation he lived in. And older than anyone he knew. Which is not surprising, because he did not know anyone else. He had been sitting, or perhaps leaning is the more apt expression, in a closet for many, many years, and had done nothing but stare. But eating, or rather chewing, a spider opened up another world to him. A world with a voice that was talking to him - to HIM! Marrow did not get what the voice was saying, but that was secondary at this point. And Marrow started to feel restless. Nuff said. If you like a sometimes quirky skeleton as the main character and want to ride along for its coming of age, or perhaps rather coming of sapience story... give it a shot. It is a litrpg context with skills, levels, heroes and monsters... and a skeleton. Not sure yet how fast the skeleton will level... we'll have to wait and see. As a disclaimer... this is my secondary novel... my main story is ongoing and most of my time is dedicated to that. As such, new chapters will, at first, be rather infrequent and irregular. If things go well, I may shift more attention to the story, but we shall see how things go.

The Cage
Mighty abominations and their more powerful gods dance between the galaxies in eternal migration, exploring, experimenting and playing. They leave destruction in their wake, heedless of the suffering of the sapients they slaughter, alter or drive to extinction as they toy with entire star systems for passing amusement. These monsters are called mankind. They are finally betrayed and defeated, but they cannot be killed. They are diminished and stripped of all memory of what they were, locked in a bottle reality on a false world called Earth. For thousands of years, mingled shards of their Broken Gods continue to chance across the cage that holds the species of their birth. The shards merge with suitable hosts to create empowered archetypes who awaken to supernatural Gifts and fractured dreams of a lost history. The greatest among them are magnificent heroes and villains: The Vigilante. The Mastermind. The Assassin. The Polymath. This is the story of their inferiors: The Beggar. The Homewrecker. The Gambler. The Henchman. The Miser. The Monster. Together, they will attempt to save the world, free humankind and escape the Cage. This will probably end really badly. *Cover art taken from internet source of free-use, uncopyrighted photos and images.

Clarent Saga: Chronicles
Based on my work on Saga of the Jewels, I've been hired by an indie game developer to write the novel for their 'novel + turn-based battles' game which is in Early Access on Steam. Of course, a 'novel + turn based battles' is a terrible idea for a game, which is why no other games like this exist, but hey, the developer is paying me. And if something's worth doing at all, it's worth doing as well as possible, so I am going to give this project my very best shot and try to make it as good as it can be. So if you read this, please give me feedback on the story to help me make it as good as it can be! Please note, for this story I have been given a pre-existent set of characters, character back-story sketches and a rough plot to work with. I also have to insert random battles into the narrative, have set characters appear in a certain order, and have the party fight fixed bosses in a certain order, all at fixed points! Please also note that this is a first draft. I will be editing and re-working this in the future and re-posting it. But I need helpful feedback, if anyone can give it. You can also find the game version of this on Steam by searching there for 'Clarent Saga: Chronicles'.
