May
"Croissants, we need those, oh and Maisie needs one too" I slowly woke up to my mom's voice from downstairs. I sat up and took a minute to fully wake up. I placed my hand on my stomach that began to buldge out more and more everyday.
"Corsage, mom, it's a corsage" I heard Daniel mumble.
I looked around to see them start heading out the door.
"Hey, where are you guys going?" I asked them.
My mom turned back at me and smiled, "Maisie, go get dressed and come with us"
I nodded and headed back upstairs. I put on basketball shorts and whatever shirt I found.
I walked downstairs and carefully put my socks on at the same time.
I walked out the door and to my mom's car.
From where the sun sat in the sky, I'm guessing it was still early in the morning. My phone buzzed from my pocket.
What color is your dress?
I replied back with the color of my dress back to Darren and put my phone away.
"Where we going?" I asked.
"We need to run errands today and with prom coming up, I know you're going with Darren but do you know if he's going to get you a corsage?" My mom asked.
"I'll ask" I sighed. I opened up the text messages and asked Darren if he had our stuff.
When I locked my phone I saw my reflection in the blank screen.
"Ew" I quietly said. I put my phone away and braided my hair to the side.
I rolled down my window. It was already warm out.
"So where we going first?" I asked, again.
"You need anything from Walmart?" My mom asked as we pulled in the parking lot.
"Yeah"
We got out and the ground felt unusually hard. Then I mentally face palmed.

"Mom?" I got her attention, "I didn't put any shoes on..." I trailed off.
"Maisie!" She said slightly angry.
"I forgot to grab some, and I really don't like wearing shoes"
"You're coming in either way" we shut our doors and began walking towards the entrance.
"Why didn't you grab shoes?" Daniel asked.
"I don't know" I rolled my eyes.
"You're dumb"
"And you're stupid" I fired back.
"Boy, I'm graduating with a three point eight GPA"
"Doesn't mean your not stupid, you could be book smart, but that's probably not likely" I rolled eyes.
"I took AP classes"
"Uh, so?"
"Have you taken any AP classes?" He put his finger on his chin to pretend like he was thinking, "Oh wait, didn't you have to retake Math one during the summer?" He smirked.
"Oh wait, didn't you have me help you with your Spanish homework because your peanut sized brain could-" before I could finish my sentence my mom whipped around and glared at us.
"Quit arguing you two are giving me a headache" she said lowly.
She turned back around and continued walking.
"Idiot" Daniel mumbled while pushing me into an older women's cart.
She glared at me and I quickly apologized. Daniel was trying not the laugh.
"I'm gonna get you back for that" I glared at him.
"You do that" he said.
When we got in my mom grabbed a cart and told us to go get our stuff.
I went to the makeup, getting a few looks for only wearing socks and no shoes, and got what my mom sent me after.
I walked around Walmart trying to find my mom.
I got tired and whistled with my fingers. A couple seconds I heard someone whistle back. We kept whistling until we found each other.

I approached Daniel in the men's wear part where he was getting a tie and shirt.
"There you guys are!" My mom came around a corner pushing a cart filled with food. I gently placed my stuff in the cart.
"Why so much food?" I chuckled.
"I called Darren's mom and we both agreed to cook a big dinner tonight so we can all get to know each other better!" She smiled.
"Does that mean I need to stay?" Daniel asked.
"Yes"
"But Justice wanted to eat at Olive Garden?" Daniel mentioned to our mom.
"Oh, okay" she kept her smile but her voice was disappointed.
"Is that all?" I nodded. She pushed the cart ahead of us and started to walk to the check out.
I glared at Daniel. He just shrugged.
"Stay for dinner or else I'll tell mom you egged your ex's house" I whispered.
"You won't do it" he scoffed.
I raised an eyebrow and walked next to my mom, "Hey mom did you know Daniel-" I was interrupted by my older brother.
"Wants to help you with dinner" he smiled at my mom.
"Aw, really? Alright" she smiled as she got in line at a checkout.
Daniel glared at me while I smiled triumphantly.

The Kiss of Two Moons
The last year is upon us. The world is ending, but you already knew that; everyone does. Spring has come, and the flowers have bloomed here in this small town with no name. Thousands of different colours now paint the field that had been coloured by frost alone just yesterday. The townsfolk have gathered by the field to celebrate the beginning of the last spring with so many smiling faces. Tears too. I can’t help but wonder whether the flowers will bloom again before the sky falls upon us. Others must be thinking the same. There are moments when the smiles fade and their eyes glaze over as they realize just how near to the end we are. They forget it again in moments. They make themselves forget. The children aren’t like that, though. They don’t seem to understand, or they’ve come to accept it in a way that their parents just can’t manage to. This one boy actually asked me why I was sad. I had to wonder whether he was actually aware that the world is ending, but it seemed wrong to mention it. I ended up just telling him that I was waiting for someone, and he scampered off, wearing a silly smile. I can’t help but feel jealous of him. The beginning of next spring; the day that the world ends. It seems so far away, yet so close. Wherever you are now, I have to ask, how are you spending your last spring? Did you get to see the flowers bloom? Did you smile? Did you cry?
