《Attending a Vampire School》Chapter 6: Vampires Aren't Real

I groaned, almost slamming my head down on the cafeteria table. I was still being paraded by Rowan and Zaylee. After I had already explained the entire situation.
"This is a big deal!" Zaylee squealed excitedly.
I began nibbling on my peanut-butter and jelly sandwich. I had already lost most of my appetite when I watched Zaylee and Rowan grab their lunch.
Don't ask, I'm not a hundred percent sure what it is myself. At the front of the lunch line, there were different sections with sets of glasses that were lined up. Each section had a tag, labeling the different blood types.
I shuddered. It freaked me out. Where did they even get the blood? I didn't want to become the next glass of B-negative blood.
So, I just rushed to an empty table where Rowan and Zaylee later sat down and continued to interrogate me.
They each had a tray of food along with a glass cup. I was about to puke, but nibbling on my food a bit seemed to help.
I just want to leave and never come back. I'm still having a hard time wrapping the whole vampire idea around my head.
Waverly's little show with her fangs still has me shaking. I felt like I was going to die. Who wouldn't?
"It's not a big deal," I mumbled, looking away to avoid staring at their drinks.
They both glanced at each other before turning back towards me with a worried expression.
"You know, you're looking a little sick," Rowan commented, setting down her drink. I shuddered again.
Zaylee took a sip of hers before slowly setting hers down after Rowan. She scooted her glasses close to me with two of her fingers.
I stared at it before looking up at her with a confused expression.
"You should really drink something. Did you have any this morning?" She asked.
I took in a ragged breath and looked at them both. What am I supposed to say? That I don't drink blood? Definitely not.
I mentally cracked my knuckles. Time to put on my great acting skills.
"It's, uh, fine. I had some this morning." Lie. I failed miserably to try and create an actual sentence.
So much for my great acting skills. I could tell that they didn't believe me. Heck, I wouldn't believe me. I sounded so unsure.
"No, you need at least a glass. What's your favorite? I'll go get you one." Rowan persisted.
It was the same question the nurse had asked me. She sighed and started to get up from her seat. My eyes widened and I reached my hands out to stop her.
"No!" I slightly yelled, "It's fine, really. I'm still feeling all the 'new girl' nerves." I coughed and fake smiled.
Rowan stared at me, studying my face. She was trying to detect if I was lying or not.
"Are you sure?" She asked before slowly sitting down next to Zaylee again.
"Yes, of course. I'm okay." I insisted.
I needed them to believe me. Or else, I could be dead before next week. Suddenly, I felt a whole lot worse about attending this school.

"Fine. You win this time." Rowan joked a bit and gave me the evil eye.
I smiled and sighed in relief. I was anything, but okay. I was scared, terrified and probably soon going to puke again.
This was not turning out to be a good first day.
"So, Carson came to your rescue? I wish I had been in your place." Zaylee sighed dreamily, changing the subject.
I shuddered. Fangs. Hard, cold staring eyes. Nope. Nope. Nope.
"Because I got swept off my feet and carried to a magical palace," I grumbled bitterly.
I set my half-eaten sandwich down on a napkin. Rowan chuckled at my not-so-enthusiastic response.
"He's so dreamy. Tall, bright blonde hair, and beautiful brown eyes." Zaylee swooned.
She set her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her palms. Rowan smacked one of her arms playfully. I couldn't help but smile at them.
"Yep. Zay, you're delusional." Rowan confirmed, and I nodded.
Everybody has that one friend who thinks the scary— but cute— guy is the person they'll die for.
For me, it just happened to be Zaylee. I glanced around at the cafeteria.
All the walls were white, the floor was tiled a blue and white color. The ceiling was high and arched. All the walls had large, square windows that should be letting in a lot of sun.
Unfortunately, it was gray and cloudy outside. I had that small, secret hope that everyone in this room would burn to a crisp.
"I wouldn't mind if he took a bite out of me." Zaylee suddenly said in a joking manner.
I suddenly tensed at her words. Even though it was a joke, I'm still feeling terrified for my life.
"Yeah," I swallowed the lump in my throat.
Rowan glanced at me, catching the uncomfortable look I had on my face.
"Enough dreaming about you and Carson getting married," Rowan snapped a finger in front of Zaylee's face. "Let's talk about Saige."
Uh-oh. Rowan smiled at me.
"Um, no. That's okay." I shook my head.
Zaylee grinned, picking up her drink and finishing it in one gulp.
"Are you hiding something from us?" Zaylee leaned across the table closer to me. "Now I'm curious."
"I'm not hiding anything," I mumbled.
Zaylee slightly squealed and suddenly began to twirl a piece of my hair. I blinked at her, slightly shocked.
"Since it was my idea," Rowan coughed. "I get to ask the first question."
Zaylee turned and pouted at her. She sighed in defeat, letting go of my hair. "Fine."
I stared at Rowan. The nosiness of the cafeteria fading in the background.
"Okay, first question." Rowan held up one finger. "What is your favorite blood type?"
I deadpanned. Are you serious? How many times am I going to be asked this question?
"Just answer the question." Rowan rolled her eyes.
I shuddered. How does she keep doing that? Don't tell me vampires can read minds!
Well, now that I think about...that time in the nurse's office she read me pretty easily.
"I don't know, B-negative I guess?" Face-palm.

That didn't sound suspicious at all.
Rowan raised her eyebrow at me before shrugging. "Eh. My favorite is AB-positive. It's the best combination."
I was slightly relieved and freaked out by that. At least I wouldn't be her first choice of snack.
"I can see why that's your favorite. It's quite a rare blood type." Zaylee smiled at me. "My favorite— which is the best bloody type— is A-positive." She licked her lips.
Once again, slightly relieved and freaked out. "Yeah. You don't find many people with it."
I just realized something. This lunch period is taking forever. Before I could ask them if lunch was about to end, I felt a cold presence behind me.
"My favorite is B-negative." A low voice spoke.
I jumped from the mystery person's proximity, I could feel their hot breath on my neck. Whoever it was, chuckled at my reaction.
I was about to pull some crazy ninja moves on the person but remembered it was most likely a vampire and I could be thrown across the cafeteria.
The person, who sounded like a guy, sat down in the seat next to me. I stiffened and glanced at Rowan and Zaylee, who were both glaring at the person.
Not good. Daring fate, I turned towards the guy.
Holy mother of bananas.
He was also a very good-looking guy, with copper colored hair. His hair was shorter and didn't stick up as much. He had a strong build, much like Carson.
He was looking at me, his light brown eyes filled with intensity. He had his right ear pierced with a silver stud. He grinned at me, his bright teeth blinding me.
I gulped. "Oh. Um..." I was at a loss for words.
I glanced at Rowan and Zaylee for help, but they continued to glare at him.
"It just has this bittersweet taste. Doesn't it?" He tilted his head, continuing to smirk.
I swallowed. I couldn't turn away. Ugh. Why does my blood type have to be his favorite?
Two important life-saving things to remember Saige. One, don't tell the good-looking guy that you're human. And two, most definitely don't tell him your blood type.
I was trapped staring into his eyes. Crap. Why couldn't I turn away? This is bad. Look away Saige!
"Yeah," I mumbled. Help me, Rowan! Zaylee! Somebody!
He suddenly leaned, getting really close. My eyes widened and I blushed.
"Damn. You're cute." He whispered.
My face went into overdrive, heating up quickly. I spun away from him and began to choke on air.
I heard him chuckle, and shift in his seat. I sighed in relief as he moved away.
"What are you doing here?" Rowan asked darkly.
The boy turned towards her. "I can't welcome the new girl? Sarah, right?"
Zaylee rolled her eyes and mumbled 'idiot' under her breath.
"It's Saige," I said.
I glanced at him. He blinked, staring at me blankly.
"Huh. I could have sworn it was Sarah." He leaned in and whispered in my ear. "But, I like the name Saige better."
I slightly gasped and flinched away from him. The urge to smack him was overpowering. Why are all the good-looking guys attracted to me today?
"Back off, Reece. You have a girlfriend." Zaylee threw her red apple at him.
Reece caught the apple in a swift movement. "I do?" He bit into the skin, his fangs appearing.
I gulped. He glanced at me and smiled. Mayday! Mayday! Abort mission!
"Waverly Adams. That name ring a bell?" Rowan frowned, spinning her fork with two fingers.
Reece bit into the apple slowly, the sound of the skin crunching was loud.
Of course, his girlfriend would be none other than Waverly Adams. Why can't I do math? It's really simple.
The equation is like one plus one. One hot guy plus one gorgeous girl equals popular relationship.
I erased the equation in my head. Something didn't add up. Why was Waverly so upset over Carson then?
The answer would seem to be she's having an affair, but Carson doesn't seem like the type of guy to shamelessly flirt with taken girls.
Especially if the mean girls try to bite the newbie. I mean seriously, who does that?
"I wasn't doing anything wrong. You know me," Reece set the half-eaten apple down. "I was just messing around."
Rowan scoffed at him and stopped twirling her fork. He smiled at her. Something tells me Rowan doesn't believe him and that I shouldn't trust him.
"So, Saige. How do you like the school? Does it live up to your last school?" Reece turned towards me with a slight smile.
I clasped my hands together and rested them in my lap. I crossed my legs, to make sure my underwear wasn't being shown to the world. Curse skirts.
"Yeah, I guess Wintercrest Academy is a nice school. It's slightly different from my last one." I chuckled nervously.
Reece stared at me, observing my face. A thought from earlier popped back into my head.
How long is this lunch period? Seriously. It feels like it's been an hour.
"Different? How?" He asked.
"Oh, nothing interesting." I played with the ends of my dark hair.
"You have captured my interest." He whispered smoothly.
My eyes widened and my mouth slightly parted. I quickly closed my mouth and felt my face heating up. Jerk.
Zaylee suddenly squealed and we all turned to look at her. Her pale cheeks had a pink tint to it. She was smiling like a psycho.
Her eyes were wide and sparkled. Not literally.
"My Prince Charming is coming!" She said dreamily.
Rowan's eyes widened slightly, but she didn't look awestruck like Zaylee.
I glanced at Reece who had turned to look behind me. He had a scowl on his face and I could hear him slighting hissing. Hissing?!
I swallowed the lump in my throat. Taking a deep breath, I turned to see who was behind me.
I gasped.
The person walking towards us had blonde hair. His dark brown eyes were narrowed at our table.
It was none other than 'Prince Charming' himself.
"Carson," I whispered.
