《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter One

Chapter One
Friday started out like any other regular day of the week at work. It was only a quarter past eleven and I was already ready to go home. I scanned my computer, trying to find something to entertain me for the next four hours..because solitaire wasn't cutting it.
A moment after I opened up a game of online uno, Victoria came waltzing into my cubicle, a knee length green dress adorning her body. Her bright blue eyes lit up as they met mine. "You'll never guess what I got!" She practically squealed.
I turned around in my chair so that I was facing her. "What?" I asked not really knowing what to expect. Usually when Victoria got all excited like this, it was either because her parents had bought her another pair of designer shoes or she got a new boyfriend - which happened a lot.
Victoria flipped her hair to the side. "You know how I was telling you that The passengers would be playing at a concert this week?"
"Yeah," I nodded, still not seeing where this was going.
"Well, Phillip -"
I frowned. "I thought you were dating Henry?"
She waved a hand. "I got tired of him." She said dismissively, "But as I was saying, my new boyfriend Phillip had bought two tickets to the concert to surprise me, and we were going to go together, but his job called him a while ago and said he was going to have to work tomorrow." She jumped up and down.
"And that's a good thing because?"
She tapped my nose. "Because that means that you and I get to go together, silly."
I sat up straight in my chair. "Seriously?"
She grinned. "Well, duh. You're like my only friend. Who else would I take?" She rolled her eyes playfully before nudging me.

"But there's more." She smiled slyly. I hated that smug look on her face.
"What?" I almost begged.
"Guess who was asking about you a few minutes ago.." she trailed, "Starts with good and ends with ness." She breathed out dreamily.
My mouth dropped. "Jason?" I asked in disbelief. Surely he wouldn't be asking around about me. We barley knew each other, plus the only things I've ever said to him were sorry and I'm a klutz.
Victoria nodded again. "He was asking Nathan in the Tech department about you. Wanted to know what department you worked in. I wonder why exactly." She said looking at me suspiciously. I wrung my hands together.
"I may have ran into him yesterday. Another accident you could say, but we didn't really get the chance to talk that much." I rushed out, "plus he's totally not interested in me." I turned back around to my computer. Victoria gave a shrug.
"I don't know. Seemed like he was pretty interested in getting to know you when he was talking to Nathan. But then again I guess you're right." She walked over to the end of the cubicle. "Since he's totally not interested in you can I have a go?" She winked. I flicked a paper clip at her forehead.
"Please, you can't even keep a guy for a week."
She huffed. "It's not my fault that I grow bored easily, plus when you're with a new guy every week, things never get boring."
"One of these days you're going to catch Chlamydia or something."
"And when I do I'll make sure to share it with you." She replied sweetly.
I made a face. "Okay, you're gross. Go back to your work or whatever you do around here."
Victoria let out a laugh. "Whatever. I'll pick you up tomorrow at six." She said turning around, "and make sure to wear something sexy!" She called over her shoulder.
