《Little Thief (Black Butler G/T)》Chapter Twenty-six

Kadence laid her head against the glass of the window, staring down the drive. It was strange. Even when she was alone in the walls, she's never felt this lonely before. It was like a part of her was gone with the butler and Earl, and she wouldn't get it back until they returned.
She'd even debated going after the carriage, but that was suicide. Sure, Sebastian had amazing senses but no doubt some animal would get to her before she made it partway. Not only that, but it would take her days to reach her destination; by then Sebastian and Ciel could already be home at the mansion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Kadence had been sitting silently in her room for about half an hour when there was a light knock on her door.
Turning her head, she hesitantly spoke up to let her unexpected visitor know they could come in.
Finny poked his head into the room, his gentle blue eyes scanning the area before landing on her. "Hello. Sebastian told us to check on you frequently so I decided to take the opportunity and do it first," he smiled, stepping fully into the room before his smile slowly faded. "Is something wrong?"
The Borrower offered a smile and sat up, putting her back against the window. "Finny. No, nothing...well, maybe- no, no it's nothing," she laughed at herself for stumbling over her words like that. Out of all of them, Finny may have been the strongest but he was the nicest human to possibly exist on this Earth. He and Tanaka were part of the few she felt fully comfortable around without Sebastian nearby.
"That's not true. It's all over your face," the blonde stepped closer and knelt to the floor, his chin resting on the sill a short distance away from her. He could maybe pick her up, but he didn't trust his own strength not to harm her. It was both a blessing and a curse. He could protect the people he cared about, but he never knew if he could touch them. "Won't you talk to me?"

Kadence met his eyes and smiled. The blue pools were always so gentle and kind when they gazed at her, and she trusted that look, even if they were normally from ruby red eyes instead of blue. "It's silly, but I already miss him," she admitted softly.
"Sebastian? The others and me sort of guessed that you would. You and him are always very close. We've never seen him that way with anyone but the Master," Finny again smiled, turning his head and resting his hands underneath his face. "It's not silly. It's understandable I guess. He's the one that's done the most when it comes to your safety and taking care of you. Don't be embarrassed. We all care about you and could never think less of you just because of that."
He was so understanding it almost hurt to be talking about this with him. Kadence put a hand over her chest and fought back tears of joy. Everyone here was always so sweet to her and she had trouble hiding how emotional it made her.
Finnian continued to smile as he stood up from where he sat. A loud crash echoed from down the hall, catching both of their attention when they heard a feminine voice from outside the door.
"Finny! Grab Kadence and take her down to the cellar! There's a lot of people here, dozens in and outside! Once you've got her down there, meet us back up here!"
"Meyrin," Finny frowned deeply and reached his hand toward Kadence, stopping short. No, he couldn't. What if he accidentally hurt her, even killed her in the process? He shuddered. Sebastian would probably kill him.
His hand sat there, partially outstretched and quivering. "I-I can't."
Kadence knew immediately why he wasn't following his given instructions. He was always afraid to handle delicate or small items. She smiled and reached one arm out, resting her own tiny hand against one of his fingers. "Go. I'll hide somewhere in here."

Finny gave her a thankful but hesitant gaze and fled the room, slamming the door behind him.
Kadence looked around the large room, taking into consideration where she was. She wished she could help the others but knew it would be too dangerous for her.
Taking a deep breath she climbed from the windowsill and started to sprint to the nightstand where her bed and other furniture items were kept. She could hear pounding, thunderous footsteps nearing her door. God, she hoped it was Finny, Bard, Meyrin or Tanaka.
She could hear light cursing from Meyrin, and she picked up a panicked shout from Tanaka then silence.
The thundering steps stopped, there were no more gunshots, no more shouting. There was a faint scent on the air that she couldn't recognize.
The footsteps began again. Slow, echoey ones. They sounded like Sebastian's footsteps but there was no way. Sebastian was gone with Ciel for a few days.
She pressed her back up into the wall, breathing shakily. The doorknob turned, and in stepped a man clad in black, a set of glasses resting neatly on his nose. Golden eyes peered at her from behind the rims. He was dressed similarly to Sebastian, only he was wearing a cross-collar bowtie with a dark purple brooch.
He adjusted his white gloves, speaking with a near emotionless tone as his eyes bore into her. "I suppose you are this 'Borrower' we were told about. Interesting. How could something as insignificant as you catch a demons attention?"
He stepped forward and Kadence quivered in the mere presence of him. She closed her emerald eyes tightly and started to run, only to bump into a surface that quickly closed around her. Opening her eyes, she found herself held in a not so gentle fist.
She slowly met those horrifying golden eyes, breathing shakily. "Wh-Who are you?"
He either didn't hear her or flat out ignored her, walking through the halls of the mansion like he owned the building. Bodies of unfamiliar men were strung out about the first floor.
Meyrin, Bard, Finny, and Tanaka all laid out in a pile in the middle of the room. They weren't bleeding, so they were alive. Thankfully.
Her heart beat rapidly inside of her chest. She opened her mouth and screamed out a single word.
"Sebastian!"

Bon Week-end
He runs the underground. She’s made it her playground. Their time together--the stuff of pulp fiction. When a corrupt corporate conspiracy threatens to tear them apart, they blast back with their offbeat brand of crime and chaos. This story is just one from the pulps. Film critic Roger Ebert once described them as ‘cheap, disposable entertainment that you could take to work with you, and roll up and stick in your back pocket.’ So do just that--and read it on the weekend. Bon Week-end is a novel written in the tradition of Jean-Patrick Manchette’s neo-polar, existing now as what shall be known as the neo-serial. This is Nippoten’s second serial following the superhero epic Entirely Presenting You. This novel will have a rather unique release schedule compared to others.
