《Friends with the Football Team》13~ New Friend

"Did you guys hear the fair was in town? It's not to far from here." I said as I plopped on the beanbag next to Darren and Tommy with a bowl of freshly made popcorn. All the boys were at my house and we were sitting in the loft watching movies. It was a little cramped for ten people, but it worked.
"Where'd you get popcorn from?" Tommy whined as he tried to steal a piece, but I moved it away from him.
"My kitchen you nitwit, get your own" I smacked his hand and shoved a few more pieces in my mouth.
The boys laughed when me crossed his arms and pouted.
"The fair does sound fun though" Con said.
"I know right"
"I say we go tomorrow. I'm too tired right now." Coop groaned.
I rolled my eyes at him. "C'mon Coop a three hour practice isn't that bad" I teased.
The boys all groaned. "How would you feel after that practice we had today? All you did was run and ab workouts" Nick said.
I thought about it for a minute. Dad really did put them through the ringer today. I'm actually not sure if I could have done it. Dad definitely wouldn't have let me because of my knee. "I think you guys are a bunch of sissys." I shrugged. I knew I would be just like they are now after that workout but they don't have to know that.
"So fair tomorrow?" Darren asked.
All the boy and I nodded in agreement.
"Great, I'll ask my mom" He said.
"Tori's in town this week but I'm sure I can go" Said Nick.
I looked around. "Good so we're all in agreement, tomorrow."
"Meet at Riley's at noon and we'll leave from there" Con said we all came to an agreement. For the rest of the time we talked and joked around. I beat the boys' asses in Call f Duty.
***
"Let's go" I called out to the boys. They woke up late as always and were rushing out of the house. I invited Remi too and she's gonna meet us there a little bit later.
I checked my outfit one last time. I wore a yellow cropped champion shirt and a pair of denim shorts and my white high top converses.
"We're coming." Con called as he, followed by the other two, came walking down the stairs.
We made our way to Riley's. Riley's Kitchen is the burger place that nearly killed me, but everyone called it Riley's.
Connor was taking his with Cooper and Nick. I was going in Will's truck with Carter. Darren and Sam were going with each other. Tommy and Cole were taking Cole's car.
We met up at the diner and went to the cars that we decided to go in after we got a little bit of ice cream. I don't know why we didn't just take two or three cars, but I guess this is the way it worked out in the end.
"You guys ready?" Will buckled his seat belt in the drivers seat. Carter took the front seat. Which left me in the back seat.

"Yep" I smiled.
"Go man"
Will back out of Riley's parking lot and we started our hour-ish drive to the fair.
We sung to some music on the radio but for the most part it was a quiet ride.
"What are three things you can't live without? Materially I mean. You obviously can't live with food and water" Will asked.
"Football, the sun, I don't look this tan without it, and probably pasta." Carter answered.
"Okay football's obvious. The sun, really? Hate to break it to you bro but you're not all that hot" Will joked.
Carter playfully smacked him in the arm.
"Pasta?" Will questioned.
"Whoa, don't go there Will, that boy is obsessed with his pasta" I joked from the back.
Will glanced at me with a smile as the boys laughed.
Carter just shrugged. "It's true man"
"What about you Cor?" Will asked.
"Hot showers, Dad's burgers, and lazy days"
"Everyday is a lazy day with you Coco" Carter joked.
I laughed but punched Carter in the arm harder than I originally meant to. He whined and rubbed his arm with a pout on his face. "Oops my arm slipped" I smiled sweetly at him. Will laughed at us.
"I don't disagree with you though. I would literally kill for his burgers"
I shrugged. "Then maybe you should come over again sometime for dinner. Oh and bring Kenz"
He shook his head with a smile forming on his face. "I swear you liked her more than me or even your own siblings" He laughed.
"Maybe" I said sweetly.
When we got there it looked pretty busy, but it was a huge place so I kind of expected it. We went to the ticket booth and paid the lady working.
We walked around for a little bit and checked things out before deciding what to do first. The group split up before long because some of the boys saw something they wanted to do.
"Oh let's go on the ferris wheel" I smacked Carter's arm about a million times.
"Okay, okay" he put his hands on mine to stop the smacking and chuckled at my excitement.
I grabbed his and Will's hands and dragged them to the ferris wheel line. Thankfully for us it wasn't excruciatingly long. Connor and Cooper followed behind us laughing.
We had to wait maybe ten minutes to go up there. There were six people to a cart. The five of us piled in.
"Are you okay with adding an extra to your group?" The guy working the ferris wheel asked.
I looked at the boys and they didn't seem opposed to the idea.
"Yeah that's fine." I shrugged.
"Can I have one more for this group?" The guy asked. The first six people looked at each other and shook their heads.
One girl spoke up and agreed to go with us.
I ended up sitting m in between Will and Carter. Will was on the end and sitting next to Carter was Cooper, then Connor, then the girl.
"Hey guys" she smiled. "I'm Selena, but most people call me Lena"
"I'm Cora. This one sitting on my left is Will and right is my brothers, Carter, Cooper, and Connor" I introduced them.

"Nice to meet you" Will smiled at her.
"Hi," Cooper waved.
"Hey," Carter said nonchalantly.
Connor just waved at her.
The ferris wheel started going and Selena just grabbed onto Connor's arm.
"Oh I'm sorry" she let go of Connor's arm with a sheepish smile and red stained her face.
"Nah you're good. Are you scared of heights?" He asked.
She shook her head. "No, I'm scared of ferris wheels that can be moved in a day. Who knows someone could've forgotten something and we could all fall to our deaths, but I really love the view from the top of the ferris wheel" She held onto Connor's arm.
He chuckled and put his arm around her to comfort her as she held his other hand.
"Did you come with your friends?" Will asked as the ferris wheel stopped about half way.
She shook her head. "My family. My mom, dad, and little brother, Jake." We stayed silent for a few seconds before Selena spoke up. "How old are you guys?" She asked.
"I'm going to be seventeen at the end of next month" I answered.
"Eighteen" Will answered.
"Same here," Cooper said.
"I'm seventeen"
"I'm nineteen. I just graduated and the others are juniors and seniors. What about you?" He smiled at her.
"I'll be eighteen at the beginning of September and I'm a senior in high school."
We all smiled and talked about ourselves. She went to our rival school in football. Of course we didn't put that against her. She was really cool.
We finally reached the top. Lena got excited and took a picture of the skyline. Then we all squished together to get a picture on my phone. Lena felt like she was interrupting at first but we assured her it was completely fine.
It wasn't long when we reached the bottom. We all exchanged numbers and socials with Lena.
"Bye Lena, we should hang out sometime." Connor said.
"I can hang with you right now if you want," she smiled.
"We don't want to keep you from hanging out with your family." I interjected.
She waved me off. "It's fine. This is a common occurrence. We always hang out. I'd just have to let them know." She shrugged.
"Just to warn you, we have five other boys in our group," Cooper said.
"I'm used to it, all my cousins are boys and I have four older brothers. Plus Jake" she shrugged.
I thought it was just her and Jake.
"Let me go tell my parents real quick." She walked away for a few minutes and came back to us.
"Let's go find the gang" Cooper joked and we walked to find the rest of our friends.
We found them by the bumper cars. They were waiting on Cole and Tommy to get out.
"Hey guys" Sam said as they watched us approach them. "Who's this?"
"This is Selena, we just met her in the ferris wheel" I answered. "She's pretty cool. So don't scare her away."
"I'm Sam, this is Darren and Nick" he introduced him and his friends.
"Hey" she waved.
We talked for a few more minutes. Then Tommy walked out with Cole right behind him.
"Jake was a-" Lena stopped mid sentence as she saw Tommy and Cole.
Cole stopped in his tracks when he saw Lena, standing there. He looked at her with wide eyes and he almost looked relieved.
"Oh thank god you're okay" he crashed his body into her as he hugged her tight.
She stood as stiff as a board. "Okay is a bit of an overstatement."
He backed away and held her at arm's length.
"I'm sorry, for everything. I was terrible and you definitely didn't deserve that." He caressed her face.
"You left me there and something bad happened. I trusted you and you broke that trust, Cole. It's been four months. Four months and you've not said one thing to me since that night. Not a single word. Cousins aren't supposed to do that to each other, especially us. We were like siblings." I could see the tears brim her eyes.
Wait, they're cousins?
"I know I know and I should've called or texted or something. You know I was in a tough spot. Do you know how many times I fucking wanted to call and make sure you were okay? Every fucking second of every fucking day."
All of us looked at each other in confusion. No one knew what was happening. Not even Nick or Tommy, who were his best friends.
She took a deep breath before looking into his eyes. "You know what, let's just forget about it for today. We'll talk later. I want to have fun right now and your presence sure as hell isn't going to change that."
"Okay as long as you promise to actually talk later." He agreed.
Lena turned to me and the boys. She wiped a few stray tears and smiled. "Let's have some fun"
We all looked at both of them with confused faces. They both assured us everything was okay and we went on to the rest of the fun things at the fair.
"Oh my gosh the swings. This is one of my favorite rides. Who wants to come with?" I smiled.
Lena back away. "No no no there's no way in hell you're getting me to go on that thing. You could literally fly off at any moment."
"You're a big baby. Anyone else?"
No one volunteered and my brothers went of to get food. I looked at Will with puppy dogs eyes. Suddenly, Tommy gasped and pointed to a game stand.
"Look, I wanna win a goldfish" He pointed and dragged Nick away with him.
Darren and Sam went off doing who knows what. Which left Lena, Cole, Will, and me.
"Alright snowflake, I'll go" Will gave in.
"Let's go, let's go, let's go" I squealed and ran to the line.
He shook his head and followed me.
"You are something different Cora Barnes" He laughed as I jumped up and down waiting in line.
