"Oooo you look pretty today, who are you meeting after work?"
Tanya speaks as I walk through the glass doors. I roll my eyes at her statement and I look down at my attire; black fitted trousers, white shirt, black blazer and a statement necklace to finish off. My hair was in soft waves that cascaded down my shoulders and face.
I raise my hand in a stop motion as I approach her. I then place three files on her desk that I took home a couple of days ago. There were a loose papers peeking out from all sides visible on all files, evident that I worked my ass off. I place my elbows on the table and spoke,
"Babe there's only one person who I dress up for,"
Tanya leans forward on her desk, gullible to my words,
"Who?"
I smile showing her my white set of teeth. I move my body a little so that I was leaning on my side and, without looking over my shoulder, point behind my back randomly. I speak in a bored tone, watching her face for any change of reaction,
"Whoever walks through that door,"
At my words, Tanya's face falls and she quickly stands from her seat. She had her hands placed in front of her in a polite manner and avoided eye contact with me,
"Tan-"
"Good morning Mr King,"
She speaks without missing a beat. My eyes widen and I turn my head, my hair swaying whilst doing so. I see him stand in his grey suit, our eyes locking with each others. I haven't seen him since we bumped into each other in the elevator a couple of days ago.
Almost instantly, the scene plays in my head making me zone out. I then come back to reality as my face falls without even having to look at Tan. My words and hand action were the bomb and it had finally been destructed.
I could already feel the colour drain from my face as I turn with wide eyes already seeing her try to hide the growing smirk, but it was too late. What had been said was said and there was no escaping now,
"I didn't... it's not... no... erase that from your mind omg. Our conversation never happened. Someone shoot me already, oh my god,"
I rambled. Tanya shrugged her shoulders still looking at Noah. A groan leaves my mouth as I throw my head back, looking at the ceiling and state,
"Your not gonna drop it are you?"
"I'd rather not,"
She replied way too happily. Slapping a hand to my forehead, I only complained in a hushed manner walking away from them both, not forgetting the file that I had placed down. I hold it close to my chest, careful on not dropping any loose pieces of paper.
I walk to the elevator and stand next to Conner who was waiting for the doors to open. He rolled on the balls of his feet, sipping on his coffee. He hadn't realised my presence yet so I open my mouth ready to speak dramatically, the notion of Noah present now forgotten,

"Oh my god I give up! I can't do this anymore. It's official Conner, I'm gonna resign by the end of the week,"
I take him off guard as I place a hand on his shoulder. His body shook with fright and he turned his head with wide eyes, looking at who scared him. His scared expression then changed to a lazy smile, shaking his head whilst responding,
"By the end of the week huh? Why not now?"
Conner was the second person who I got to know when I started working. He normally made me coffees whilst I was busy working or doing errands for Luke. I snake my hand around his neck and bring the thick file in front of his face, showing emphasis,
"Cause Conner if I leave now, who would do all these files? I bet you're thrilled it's not you. Tom was literally complaining about these the other day. Each one of these takes at least two hours to look through and edit. Imagine doing a whole pile,"
I say as I wave the file in evidence. He nods his head vigorously, eyes never leaving the file that was presented in front of him,
"That I cannot complain on. I'm glad our department has you, you're literally our lifesaver,"
He lifts his hand and places it on top of my head in a child-like manner. I untangle myself from him and slap his arm playfully, our laughter loud and joyous as we now walk into the empty elevator. I turn around coming to see Tanya give me a raised eyebrow.
Her eyes shifts from me to Noah and I do the same since he was stood a few steps away from her desk. He had his hands clenched into fists, eyes dark as he threw daggers at Conner. I bite my lip as I give a final look towards Tanya, throwing a question as innocently as I could,
"Meet you for lunch?"
"Who's working on Brookside Industries?"
We all lifts our heads seeing a stressed out Luke. Upon request, everyone looks through their individual work pile, muttering that they don't have it or see it. Luke lets out a groan as he speaks, pushing his hair back before walking back into his office,
"Whoever has it, can you bring it to me ASAP. The last thing I need is another ear load of constant swearing and the possibility of coming to face you all with a massive bruise somewhere on my face,"
Everyone all snorted at his desperate plea. Everyone then mumbled a 'sure' before getting back to work. In front of me Tom stands, making me give him my attention,
"Lily aren't you working on it? I remember seeing in the pile of files that Mr King wants completed by the end of two weeks, well less now,"
I raise my eyebrows and I shove my pencil between my teeth looking through all the files that I had. Minutes passed and like Tom noted, I found what Luke was looking for. I take the pencil out from my teeth, placing it on my desk and voiced out,

"Yeah, I've got it. Should I go give it to Luke?"
Tom lifts his head and gives me a smile. He nods, refocusing back on his work. I stand from my seat and head for his office. Once I'm stood in front of his door, I knock a few times. A quiet but loud 'come in' was heard.
I opened the door, seeing Luke even more stressed than he was when he faced us. He was so stressed that the pencil he had in his hand snapped in half. Taken back his action, I walk in closing the door behind me. I hide the folder behind my back and approach him,
"What's wrong Lu?"
Luke stares at me, his frustrated face soon turning into a faint smile,
"Lu?"
I give a lopside smile and sit down, making myself a little comfortable,
"Yeah I mean you call me sugarplum so let's just call it even,"
Luke only shakes his head focusing back to his computer screen,
"So... what's wrong?"
I say carefully. Out of the blue, Luke throws his hands in the air and jumps making the chair skid back a little. He spoke dramatically,
"Some idiot in our department hasn't finished Brooksides' SWOT analysis and Noah needs it ASAP. He's gonna kill me. The guy is like a ticking time bomb,"
At the mention of his name my heart somehow skipped a beat. Pushing the feeling down, a heavy sigh leaves my mouth as I speak,
"Well that idiot is right in front of you. Here,"
I extend my hand that held the file. He straightens up, his attention alive and awake. I give him a raised eyebrow taking in his quick change of posture. I pull back the file and give a quick glance through the pages as I comment,
"Mmmm... they seem good. From what I've found out they've got more strengths than weaknesses. A lot more strengths if you ask me personally. They are open to a wide opportunities and have a lot of potential. I see high success rates if this deal is successful,"
I say looking up from the file. Luke sat like he was admiring his girlfriend. He had his elbows propped on the table, chin was resting in his hands; his eyes dreamy. He let's out a hum as he speaks,
"You know... from the moment you walked into my office last time I knew I chose the right person,"
I give him a look before discarding his words, I shake my head speaking,
"Whatever helps you feel not stressed. I just came by to say that this file is done and you have gotten it as requested. Can I go now?"
I place the file in front of him, standing up ready to leave his office but I hesitate as he calls my name. I don't move, deciding whether or not I should listen to him. In the end, like a good employee I am I stay put and listen,
"Do you think by any chance that you can do a massive massive favour for me?"
I think about it for a couple of second as I question,
"What is it?"
He lets out a sheepish laugh, a hand rubbing the back of neck, clearly nervous. He spoke,
"Would you be able to pass this onto Noah himself for me?"
As if a bomb was dropped I shake my head no already turning away, trying to escape. I hear his chair scrap backwards, now scurrying so that he was now in front of me, holding me by my shoulders. He stopped me from leaving, his lips rambling,
"Lily please, I would go myself but I need to make sure that the other files are done. I told him I'll get the file ready before the meeting but it's a little overdue. The guy will literally injure me with one of his stationary, his stapler specifically, if I go. Please Lily, you're my last hope,"
"You can't be serious can you?"
I speak in utter disbelief. Luke gives me a defeated look as he speaks,
"I wish I was,"
"Wow,"
I say as a breath left my parted lips. I remove his hands from my shoulders and walk back to his desk, collecting the file that I placed. I give him one last look from the corner of my eye, only catch him smile widely. A squeal leaves his lips in delight as he rants once more,
"Thank you so much Lily, no wonder you're my sugarplum. You literally saved my ass from being fired and my face from being injured,"
"I wonder how you're still here. I'm only doing this cause this department needs you. I doubt the rest of us wants a new manager out of the blue,"
He wipes imaginary dust of his left shoulder, giving me a smirk,
"I know, everyone dies to work with me. They can't find a better manager than me,"
A scoff leaves my mouth as I stand in-between the door and his office,
"Don't praise yourself highly, you may jinx it before you know it,"
"With all this handsomeness? Never!"
I roll my eyes and I leave. I pass my work station and head over to the elevator. Once I'm stood in front of the elevator I speak to no-one in particular, knowing that my words would grab at least someones attention,
"I'll be back in a couple of minutes guys, I gotta get this file to Mr King,"
Tom gives me a double look, his mouth dropping, eyes widen. Delilah spits out her coffee and readjusted her glasses watching me with caution. Conner quickly runs into the room, a cup of steaming coffee in his hands.
He stands a couple of steps away from me, speaking on behalf of everyone who just stared at me like I had grown another head,
"If er... you're going up, you might as well go prepared,"
I tilt my head to the side a little and question,
"How?"
He sucks in his lips and smiles cheekily,
"Well... coffee is always a good start,"
