《Random x Reader one-shots》Draco Malfoy x reader: soulmates

Y/N POV
Of course I had a soulmate. Of course it had to be with someone that I'm afraid of. Yes... it was Draco Malfoy, the Slytherin prince...
I hid my mark every day since the first day at Hogwarts.
Flashback:
I'm standing next to a boy named Neville. I had met him and was with him when his toad ran-I mean, hopped, away. Right now there was a blonde, quite handsome boy in front of me.
-So It's true... Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts, He says and walks up to a boy in front of me.
-Malfoy... Draco Malfoy, he says and holds out his hand. I feel my whole body stiffen up. I grab my sleeve and drag it over my mark that I had been born with. My parents were muggles and didn't recognize the name "Malfoy"... I see his eyes flicker to mine for a couple of seconds and he purses his lips before looking at the boy in front of me again.
Flashback ended
I made bracelets and wore long sleeved shirts to hide the name on my wrist. My friends all thought I was ashamed of the name, but truth is... I'm ashamed of myself. Over the few years here at Hogwarts I've learned what kind of person Draco was. Rich, privileged and strongly against muggleborns. That was a problem. I was a muggleborn, I didn't own a fancy mansion and I was definitely an 8 among Slytherins 10's and 11's. Also, I was a Hufflepuff. What more could make me less desirable for him? Huh?
Honestly, I knew he knew we were soulmates, but the only interactions we've had is when we bump into each other in the hallways and he says: watch it, with his goons following him suit and kicking away the books I had dropped.
It pissed me off.
What pisses me off even more is McGonagall making every year have dance lessons for the Yule ball.
I'm walking there with my good friend Neville. Then I just stop in my tracks.
-I can't do this Neville... I say, clutching the sleeves of my shirt that is so long that they cover most of my hands.

-What do you mean you can't do this? Of course you can! He says reassuringly and hugs me.
-Neville, he's going to be there, and I can't even look him in the eye... how am I supposed to do this? I ask. Neville puts an arm around my shoulder and begins walking with me by my side.
-You can do this! It's gonna be fine! Besides, you have me, and I have Harry, He says as we reach the great hall. Tables has been pushed away and chairs aligned the walls. Some students had already arrived and just sat around. Neville leaned down to whisper in my ear.
-It's gonna go great...he whispers and squeeze my shoulder one last time before joining his fellow Gryffindor boys on one side of the room.
I take a deep breath before walking up to my friend from gryffindor; Hermoine Granger. We had bonded over being called out for being open muggleborns.
After a while, everyone was in a seat and McGonagall was explaining how proud Hogwarts has been over their students and dancing and whatnot. All of the girls were ecstatic over slow dancing with boys. The boys weren't interested at all. They were talking amongst each other.
-Just look at how Ron is ignoring everything McGonagall is saying, Hermoine says. I look over at Harry and Ron talking to the Weasley twins behind them. I giggle.
-Mr Weasley! Would you care to demonstrate with me? McGonagall says loudly, for everyone to hear. Ron face turns pale.
-W-what? He asks baffled.
-C'mon, McGonagall ushers him out on the dance floor. The boys all snicker and laugh at him. I giggle.
-We put our hands together like so, she says and Ron holds up her hand.
-Now, Mr Weasley, would you put your hand on my waist? McGonagall asks with a slight smirk.
-W-where? Ron asks. Everyone bursts out laughing, including me. I put my sleeve covered hand over my mouth as my laughter sounds in the hall.
-On. My. Waist! McGonagall says and forcefully puts his hand on her waist and then she puts her hand on his shoulder.
-Mr Filch, please put on the music, she asks. Filch nods and the huge gramophone plays an old tune.

-And 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, she says as they waltz around the room. With the music still playing, McGonagall stops and turns to us students.
-Girls and boys alike, stand up and pick a partner and dance! McGonagall says and all girls hurriedly stand up. Hermoine grabs my hand and stands up with me. We stand behind the other girls. No boys stand up, they only look amongst each other. Suddenly Neville stands up and walks up to Ginny, the youngest of Weasley siblings. They begin to waltz over the slick floor of the great hall. More boys stood up and asked girls, because; if Neville could do it, why couldn't they?
I smiled as Neville looked over to me and nodded. He really was a Gryffindor.
A couple of girls got asked to dance and some of them disappeared from the line. One boy asked Hermoine to dance, she looked over to me and I nodded. She grabbed his hand and they swiftly started dancing around. Hermoine looked at me and mouthed "oh my god!" Before they made their way to the other side of the hall. I giggled. Then I noticed someone standing in front of me... and it wasn't a girl, no... they had moved to the sides. In front of me towered the man I had been avoiding since my first day here; Draco Malfoy. He hold out a hand towards me. I look up to his eyes.
-.... Care to dance? He asks quietly. I only nod as I uncover my unmarked hand and it grabs his. He quickly pulls me towards him and he pulls me close my the waist. In shock I put a covered hand on his shoulder. He looks at me intensely as we sway over the dance floor. I catch a glimpse of a group of girls over Dracos shoulder. I look, suddenly more interested in them than my unexpected dance partner. I saw Pansy and a couple of her friends look disgusted at me.
-Hey, Don't look at them, a calming voice whispers in my ear. I look to the man I was dancing with. His face was close to mine.
-They're only mad because Pansy thought I was going to dance with her, he says as he himself catches a glimpse of them as we turn around. I gulp and nod, looking into his chest. His nose was maybe just a centimeter away from my ear and I could hear his breathing against my skin... and that terrified me...
-Why are you afraid of me? Malfoy asks. I look up to his eyes, making him stand up straight again.
-W-what do you mean? I ask, trying to sound confident, but obviously failing.
-You've been avoiding me since the first time we locked eyes, he says. I scoff.
-Yeah, maybe because you push me in the hallways? And don't tell your goons to step off? I say agitated. Draco sighs and looks around the room, making me shake my head.
-Come to the Yule ball with me, Draco says. I look up at him surprised.
-Excuse me? I say, and stop dancing, making him remove his hands from my waist and hand. My body wanted him to hold me again, but I couldn't with what he just had said.
-My parents wanted me to go to the Yule ball with my soulmate... You and I both knew this was going to happen someday, so why not make the best of it? He asks. I look at him in disbelief.
-That is why you danced with me? Because of your parents? Not because our fates wanted us there? Not because you wanted to own up to my name on your wrist? Because your parents want you to go to the Yule ball with me?! I ask. He only looks down onto the ground.
-Please... would you go to the Yule ball with me? He asks. I nod.
-You're unbelievable, you really are, I say. He looks into my eyes, sadness overwhelming his grey orbs. I feel tears building up. I shake my head instead and put my sleeve covered arms up to my face and dry the falling tears as I quickly walk out of the great hall.
-Miss L/N! I can hear McGonagall's voice shout after me.

A lot of new content has been added to the early chapters since the end of May. The first chapters are still under construction and editing, but all the major changes are done. I was a webnovel junkie for a long time, but I found it hard to find novels with solid characters, decent plot, philosophical underpinnings and a fully painted world to keep me going. I've taken from every genre I've liked to make a story that satisfies my own cravings for a good story. If you like the story or have suggestions please leave a comment or review. I hope this novel is fun, provocative but above all fun. Enjoy. Yours truly, James Paul Addington PS I will release at least two chapters a week, or one really long chapter. Concerning the tags: The story is primarily Fantasy with Wuxia influence in some elements. Romance won't happen for the first two arcs or so (roughly 40 chapters), I want to build the world before I do that. Tragedy is because of an event that occurs in the book, not the tone of the book. The book is more lighthearted. Slice of Life doesn't occur till the third arc (the romance happens during that arc as well). Magic will also show up more in later arcs, but appears throughout. Reincarnation it's not a reincarnation like in the traditional sense, but it has a similar concept.
