《Have Hope》12

Y/N POV
When we got back to the Hotel early that evening, after everyone put away their gear, we had dinner, before Jill came up to speak.
"Even though that was only a friendly match, I just wanted to say how proud I am of everyone on this team. You guys played very well against a very tough opponent, and I really think that we can win the World Cup. Keep in mind, that it is still January, and we have 6 months before our first official game, so I need everyone here to put everything they have into being on this team. Remember, it's not just about the amount of hours you spend playing on the field. It's also about the time you take to strengthen and deepen the relationships you have with one another. A good team is full of diverse people who are all working towards a common goal. A good team is full of people who lift one another up, and not tear each other down. I think since this team first started, you have done an incredible job with building connections with each other which allows you to function as a unit both on and off the field. It was a rough start against France, and there is a chance we will face them again. But I think that if we work hard enough, we can beat them, and any other team who we play against."
Everyone cheered and raised there glasses (which just had water in them) before toasting to one another.
The rest of dinner was fun; Ash and Ali were talking about their plan for their wedding, which was scheduled for December, and Pinoe was talking about how her and Sue were thinking of getting an apartment together in Seattle.
All in all, it was a great time. It's been less than a month since I've been on the team, and like Christen said, these girls feel like my family.
After dinner, I really wanted to call my mom to tell her about the game today. I knew she probably watched it, but I still wanted to talk about it with her. Everyone kind of went off to do their own thing, a few people hanging out in one another's rooms.

Kelley was with Pinoe and Krashlyn, so I had the room to myself.
"Hey Mom!"
"Hey Y/n! How are you?"
"Amazing! You watched the game right?"
"Of course I did sweetie! I'm so proud of you, you guys played so well and you made some great saves."
"Thanks Mom, that means a lot."
"How is the rest of the team doing?"
"They're good, hanging out with each other. Jill gave us the rest of the night off, and then we start back up with training and conditioning tomorrow. Our next friendly is in April against Australia, so that should be cool."
"I'm so excited for you guys!"
"Yeah, I'm excited too."
"Anything else exciting happen?" From the way she said it, it kind of sounded like my Mom had something specific she wanted me to say, but I wasn't really sure what.
"Nope, but I'll keep you updated!"
"Alright, I'll let you go, I know you probably want to go hang out with your friends. I love you Y/n, and I miss you everyday."
"I love and miss you too Mom! Talk to you later."
After hanging up with my Mom, I called my Aunt.
"Sup Mini!"
"Hey T." I chuckled at her excitement.
"WAZZZUPPPPP!!!"
"Oh my god, I think I just went deaf!"
She laughed. "Sorry. Anyway, congrats on the win! I watched the whole game. And don't think I missed Alex kissing youuuuu! Tell me everything! Like, I know what happened at the park and all that, but what's with the kiss?"
"It's not a big deal! We won, we were celebrating, and Alex randomly kissed me on the cheek." I tried to keep my voice level, but I knew it was a big deal to me. The girl I like kissed me close to the lips...for no reason.
"Hmmm I'm not sure it was for no reason dude. You don't just kiss people randomly. I sense...sexual tension brewing..."
I rolled my eyes, wishing that was the case but knowing it wasn't. "T, as much as you I know I wish that was true, it's not. Alex and I are just friends, she's straight, and in a relationship."

My aunt sighed. "I know, but still. I swear that girl likes you. I can see it in her eyes."
"You've never even met her!"
"True, but still. All I'm saying is, I wouldn't give up on her just yet."
"I guess...I've liked her basically since we first met, and it's only been three weeks. How am I going to survive the rest of this season, and the NWSL season with her? I'm scared I'm going to fall for her, but it'll only be a one way thing, you know?"
"Yeah, I get what you're saying. But look Y/n, if it ends up that she doesn't like you, I'll do everything in my power to help you move on. But honestly, I really do think there is something there with her."
I didn't want to get my hopes up, but I couldn't control it. "Maybe."
"You talk to your Mom today?"
"Yeah, I talk to her basically everyday."
"I don't think I can name anyone else who has that close of a relationship with their Mom."
"Hey! Mom and I are close! Don't hate! I mean, she does get annoying sometimes, but she's one of my favorite people on earth."
"I'm first right?"
"Yes T, you're first. Just promise me you won't tell Mom about anything happening between me and Alex? She always get's all weird whenever I brought a girl home or talked about a crush, and it's super annoying."
The other woman chuckled. "I promise Mini. I should go, I need to get some breakfast and head to work."
"Oh yeah, I forgot I'm nine hours ahead of you. Good morning then, I guess. Love you T, I'll call you again soon." I laughed.
"I love you too Y/n. Good night."
Alex POV
I finally worked up the nerve to call Servando, who's been calling me non stop for two weeks. I'm sure he probably saw me kiss Y/n on the cheek, which will only add fuel to the fire.
I don't know why I kissed her, but I did. I liked it. Is that weird? That's not weird. Best friends kiss each other all the time.
It's not like I like her like that. It was kind of strange that I found myself mad when Y/n said that the mom who asked her out was hot. I was probably just upset because why would a mom ask out a player who's 20 years younger than her? That's just dumb.
Anyway, Pinoe was with Kelley, so my hotel room was empty. I reluctantly called my boyfriend, just wanting to get it over with. Why didn't I want to fix things with him? Ever since Y/n came, I feel like I've been less and less interested in Serv and I's relationship. It's probably because I want to be single and free again.
Maybe I should take Y/n's advice and break up with him. But I still liked him. I don't want to throw away two years of love. I think I'm just upset with him, and once we work it out, everything will go back to normal.
"Serv?"
"ALEX WHY HAVEN'T YOU CALLED ME? I'VE BEEN CALLING AND TEXTING FOR TWO WEEKS! ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME?!"
He shouted over the phone, making me wince. But his accusation was crazy, and the fact that he would even think that, AGAIN, pissed me the hell off.
"Servando what the hell are you talking about? Why would you even think something like that!? For the SECOND time, I AM NOT CHEATING ON YOU. I didn't call or text you back because I needed to space away from you. We were fighting, and I had other things to focus on."
"....I'm sorry. I know. It's just....I miss you so much, and I'm worried that when I see you again, you won't want me."
He sounded so sad and upset, I couldn't help but forgive him. "It's okay Serv. I miss you too. I know things are hard with us constantly being apart, but we're strong. We can get through this."
"I know....I'm sorry."
"It's alright. Well, I should get going, curfew is in a little bit and I still need to change. I love you."
"I love you too. Congrats on the win."
"Thanks babe. I'll talk to you later?"
"Of course. By baby."
I smiled to myself, happy that we were able to work things out. Hopefully now I can stop being all weird around Y/n, and everything will go back to normal.
