《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 21

~~~~~~~~~~ Once Upon a Time~~~~~~~ 2 Years Later
The sun set and Shukura stood up. She had gotten taller, about 173 cm tall(5'7), just as tall as most guys her age. If she wasn't who she was, she probably would have been considered pretty. She wasn't really skinny, but she was fit and toned from her training. She wasn't what could be considered willowy either, she had a stronger build than most girls, with a curvy body and long legs. Shukura waltzed into her room, the sun had set, and she had waited long enough for this moment.
Shukura tied her long, light brown hair that now reached her butt, into a high ponytail, then into a tight bun. She grabbed herself a black hoodie with her dragon sewed onto the back of it. When she had requested it, the maids had looked at her weird, saying they should make her a dress instead, but they would make the hoodie and a matching dress too. Shukura had also grabbed the pair of flat kunai blades that had been a gift from an anonymous person, they were holy silver, and she was taking them with her. She slipped the blades into small sheathes she had added herself into her hoodie.
Shukura had done plenty of research and held a vapor pen in her hand. Vanilla, if she used it in regular intervals, would unfocus her powers, so she wouldn't give herself away by reciting a prophecy in the middle of something important and risky, blowing her cover. As much as it would bother her to smoke, even with a vapor pen, she could use the smoke as a smoke screen and then light it on fire, so she would keep it for conventional purposes, though she internally loathed the idea.
Shukura had chosen now to commence her plan because it was one of the few times her father was gone, and security was low. Now was the only chance she would ever get to escape, and if she messed up, she was dead. The thought of dying didn't bother her as much as staying here did. Her father was a cruel, uncaring demon in a human's skin. Shukura had tied the bangs she usually used to keep her eye hidden as well. Not many people knew of her eye, only her, her father, and the maids.
The shadows faded away as she focused her lavender eye, it would give her a tactical advantage in this situation, where she could see and the hunters couldn't. She would have to sneak out without being identified or looking suspicious. If they sent the trackers after her while she was still in the village, she would be caught almost immediately. Once she left, she would be a bit farther from the hornet's nest, and less likely to get stung. She had studied the Trackers enough that she had worked out several ways to avoid them and confrontation.
Shukura threw on a pair of jeans and her training boots. They were light, leather, durable, and metal plated for extra kick, she wasn't leaving then behind. They were lace up all the way to her knee, to protect her shins, but she pulled her jeans over them to make them look like normal boots. She grabbed her makeup bag and sat down in front of the bathroom mirror. She put a dark green eye contact over her eye, but it still glowed, then put a fair amount of concealer on her face to hide her now white scar that had cost her her original eye.
Shukura looked in the mirror, her right eye still seemed to glow from under the contact, but glowed the dark green of the contacts. Her scar had vanished and her skin tone had darkened slightly. No concealer matched her pale skin tone. Shukura never could manage to get a tan, freckles, yes, tan, no. Her skin was very pale, almost a creamy white if not for the small amount of skin color.
Shukura blinked at her image in the mirror, then looked around her room. As lush as it was, it was still a prison cell, and she wanted out. Shukura grabbed the last thing she would need for now, and she definitely wasn't going to like it. It was a bottle of milky liquid, it would eliminate her scent. She was going to need a fair amount of it, enough to hide her scent and not have any chance of being discovered by the hellhounds. Shukura sprayed almost every inch of her body with it, then grabbed a weapon from under her pillow, and shoved it into a half packed black backpack. A gun, something she usually never used, but it might come in handy.
She had food, mostly jerky and water bottles, then some other useful things, like her sketchbook and pencils. She also grabbed a pair of headphones and a small mp3 player and put the into her hoodie pockets. She couldn't risk carrying a phone. The hunters would be able to track her through it. Not that she had one in the first place.
Zipping the backpack and tossing it on her shoulders, Shukura did a small, cloaking incarnation to slightly hide her presence and make her unnoticeable, as if she was just past of the background, but it would break if she caught someone's attention. After that, she slipped out of her room, and into the headquarters of the Hunters. The headquarters itself was deep in the mountain range, but the only entrance was through the temple, unless one fled into the mountain range, which was demon infested and full of hunter training grounds as well. So out through the temple was her only option.
Shukura flipped her hood up and walked close to the wall, a pair of guards walked right by her, and didn't spare her a glance. Shukura walked right through opened door but didn't dare open any herself. If need be, she had a special incarnation she could use if she was cornered, but it wouldn't end well if she didn't find a safe place to rest.
Shukura stopped in front of her father's office. She remembered every time her father had called her in here to punish or scold her. She wanted to touch the room but refrained from doing so. It was perfectly clean, like she remembered, except for two letters sitting on the otherwise clear desk. Shukura slipped inside and looked at the letters. Then her eyes widened in shock, both were addressed to her. She picked it up the smaller one and opened it.
Pulling out a slip of paper, Shukura looked at the vaguely familiar symbol. It was definitely addressed to her. It was application along with a full paid scholarship to True Cross Academy, the exorcist Academy. The form was blank, not stating her name, so she could use whatever name she desired, probably for identity reasons. Her father had probably planned to burn it without giving her the opportunity to get a regular education, she never did get a say in something like this.
Shukura had studied most subjects from personal tutors. She had finished the majority of her high school education, going at a preferable fast pace. She had never been to a public school, or a school with other people in it. When she was out in public, she noticed the stared whether malicious or awed. She like neither. She slipped the paper back into the application and notification back into the envelope and slipped it quickly into her hoodie pockets.
Shukura opened up the second envelope, this one was less formal looking and as bigger and heavier than the other one. Out of the envelope dropped a book, a small, children's book. The title of it was the Child of the Violet Moon. Shukura had never heard of it before and dismissed it as unimportant. Oh, how wrong she was.
Shukura abandons the book and left the office through te door, and back out into the hall to escape this unyielding fate of hers.
