《The Doll Family》Chapter 3

It was Monday evening when Kiara was pulled to the side by her friend Amy. Her friend dragged her to where the others were standing. Eli, Kane, and Amy all had smiles plastered onto their faces. Mikey had a skeptical doubtful look, while Clara's face held a fearful look.
"Thi-.. I-I don't think this is a good idea", Clara quietly stuttered out.
"I agree", Mikey said with a serious face. "We aren't supposed to go beyond the main camp borders. We could get in trouble and they may even send us home early. You know how strict they are with staying within the borders. Plus something could happen. We could fall and get hurt, we could get lost, a wild animal could go after us-"
"A killer could go after us too", Clara piped in.
"Oh my- ugh. Come on Clara, there aren't killers out there. You're being paranoid.", Amy said with an eye roll.
"Well, we could run into some people but I doubt we will. Besides we're not going far from the main camp borders. We'll be fine, we'll take some necessary items and go out and explore for a bit. No one will notice.", Kane attempted to reassure.
"Who's in?", Eli asked putting his hand out.
Amy and Kane put in their hands in without hesitation. Mikey put his hand in next. Kiara added hers next. Everyone turned their heads to look at Clara. After a few seconds, Clara hesitantly put her hand in.
The group of 6 used their entire free time to pack and plan. Their plan was fairly simple. They readywould put pajamas over their clothes to make it looked like they had changed for bed. After they were sure everyone was fast asleep, they would sneak out of their cabin and head towards the edge of the camp boundaries. They would need to avoid being caught by the few adults who patrolled for stray campers at night. Luckily, getting back might be easier since the patrollers would stop patrolling closer to the morning. They had also prepared some backpacks. Each pack had some food, drinks, toilet paper, a spare set of clothes, first aid kit, flashlight, extra batteries, some navigation equipment, phones, some bug spray, and a few signal flares.

"Alright, we're all packed and ready to go! Remember, that we stick together as a group. And if for some reason we do separate, we stick in pairs. I don't want anyone on their own!", Mikey reminded everyone. "Alright, is everyone ready? Then let's get a move on!" The group of campers quietly made their way to the edge of the borders. Hiding behind each building to avoid patrollers.
Kiara's POV
I don't know why I agreed to go with them. There wasn't anything too interesting to see. The night would've been peaceful it it weren't for Kane and Eli constantly trying to spook one another, Amy trying to climb or jump over everything in sight, and Mikey trying to keep the peace between the other two boys and trying to keep Amy from hurting herself. I looked over towards Clara who hadn't made a sound since we had left. Her eyes were wide and she was slightly shaking. If her eyes weren't in the ground then they were darting around her like she was looking for something. Bored, I moved my flashlight to the side which was filled with trees. A flash of something bright or maybe pale darted when my flashlight hit it. Spooked I looked at my friends. Amy, Kane, Mikey, and Eli were all arguing over something while Clara just stared at the ground. I slowly looked back to where my flashlight was pointed. Nothing. I was about to move on when I felt something. Some kind of force pulling me towards the deeper part of the woods. I slowly took one step, and then another, and another, until before I knew it I was running through the woods. What I was running towards I did not know. All I knew is that I needed to get to it.
Author's POV
The girl kept running through the woods. Deeper and deeper until she came before a house. In a trance like state she walked up to the door of the house. Grabbing the handle she slowly turned it to find it unlocked. Entering the house she walked through the living room. The blood on the floor and the corpse in the corner going unnoticed by her. She walked bay the kitchen, another body unnoticed. She slowly walked up the stairs and headed towards the door at the end of the small hallway, seemingly ignoring the sound of a door downstairs being slammed. The girl grabbed the handle only to find the look locked. She tried again. Still locked. The girl was so focused on the locked door she didn't notice what stood behind her.

In a split second she was grabbed and spun around. Her face was pressed into something dark, soft and warm, while something equally warm and soft wrapped around and settled around her waist. In this situation, most would've screamed or struggled, but the girl did not. Instead she raised her arms and wrapped them around the figure while nuzzling her face into it. This... felt good. She didn't know why but she felt good. She felt a feeling that she had never experienced. She wanted to stay like this forever. It was warm, comforting-
"Get away from her!"
The girl snapped out of her trance suddenly. But before she could struggle, she felt a painful but small prick in her back. All of a sudden her body felt weaker. She tried to struggle but her strength was quickly leaving her. In her final few moments of consciousness, she looked up to see the figure had a chilling white face with black holes for eyes which stared directly at her. As her eyes closed and her mind fell into a deep sleep, she heard a terrified scream coming from behind the figure.
Mikey's POV
I rubbed my temples as Amy, Eli, and Kane distanced themselves from one another. We had been arguing over something stupid for what felt like hours. It had finally ended when I suggested that we all just head back to camp, seeing as this little trip wasn't going anywhere and no one seemed happy. I let out a sigh and prepared to head back to camp. Let's see, Eli, Kane, Amy-. Where was Kiara and Clara?!
"Hey guys, where are Kiara and Clara?"
"They probably wandered off to get some peace and quiet", Amy suggested. "For all we know they could've already headed back to camp, which is where we should go too."
I shook my head, "No they would't just leave and not tell us. We should go look for them, we still have some time."
After an hour of searching we all were exhausted.
"We need to head back to camp.", said Kane.
"But what about Kiara and Clara?", I protested.
"I'm sure they're fine, they're probably back at camp already. They have to be... right? Anyways, we an stay out for much longer. We need to leave now.", he responded.
I turned towards Amy and Eli. They nodded in agreement.
As we started the slow and quiet trudge back to camp, I couldn't help but feel worried. Part of me hoped that they had already returned to camp, but the other part of me knew that wasn't the case. We had finally reached our cabin by the time the sun had fully came up. Opening the cabin door I hoped with all my might that I would find both Clara and Kiara asleep in their beds, but to my disappointment, that was not what I would find. Instead there were just two empty beds, with no sign anyone had been in them since yesterday. Just as Kane has closed the door the wake up alarm sounded.
"Alright kiddos! Who's ready for another day-....... Now where are those two girls? And why are you four out of bed already?"
I stepped forward to tell the counselor what had happened when Eli pushed me aside. "Well Ms., uh we woke up a bit earlier and noticed that Clara and Kiara weren't in bed so we were just about to go look for them."
"Is that so? Well they couldn't have gone far. The rest of you stay here until I come back", the counselor said before walking out the door.
"Ooooooooo, Clara and Kiara are sooooooo gonna be in trouble when they're found." Benjamin taunted.
"You mean IF they're found. Maybe a bear got them. Good riddance, let's losers to share a cabin with.", Bella joined in.
"Don't joke like that." I hissed. The twins just laughed and continued to taunt. If I had only known what had actually happened to them, I would've been wishing they had stumbled onto a bear instead.
