《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Eight

"Ruby! I can't believe you're here!" I squealed in delight, but couldn't help but asked her. "How? How did you even find me?"
She laughs aloud and smiled, showing her pearly white teeth. "I can't even comprehend that I'm standing in front of you right now. I thought we'll never see each other again." I wrapped my arms around in a hug, inhaling her familiar scent that I missed. "The moment I knew you left town with your mom, I just had to find and see you."
I froze. "What? Who told you we were leaving?" It was supposed to be a secret, we left early in the morning while Dad was still asleep. Usually, he goes home around midnight and wakes up around noon before heading to work.
Ruby rolled her eyes. "Seriously Lucy? Randy happened to see you and your mother leaving town. He was worried and hurt that you didn't tell him." At the mention of my boyfriend, a chill ran up my spine. Ruby however didn't notice my stiffness, but if she did, she didn't voice it out loud.
"I knew something was up and I just had to find you! Did you know how hard it is to find good help these days? But then I remembered you saying that your Mother visited this town when she was little. I figured that she might have taken you here."
I smiled, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Well, at least you guessed right. At the right timing, you found me!"
"Yes, and I am proud I did." She grinned proudly. "I could be an investigator when I grow up."
Laughing, I placed a hand on her shoulder. "I'm glad you're here, Ruby."
Then, it hit me.

"No one else knows, right? That my Mom and I are here?" When Ruby shook her head, I release a breath in relief.
"Although, Randy did ask. I knew I could trust him. I hope that's fine." I felt my heart beat faster when she mentioned the name of my boyfriend.
Randy, how is he?
"He did?"
Ruby rolled her eyes. "Well, duh! Yes, he did. Do I have to repeat myself?"
I giggled at her statement and shook my head. "No, you don't have to."
She looks at her surroundings and released a breath. "So, where's your new house? I'd love to see it." She smiles. I was screaming inside, drowning with my own cries. "W-well, I'll show you soon. How about we go and do something together? I didn't expect you to be here and—"
"You better be!" She laughed and patted me on the back, letting out a sigh. "So, are you hungry? How about we eat before we go to your house? I'm starving." I nodded multiple times and followed her into the car.
"Yes, me too."
Because it just so happens that a devil sabotaged my breakfast.
Driving down the empty road, we talked about the usual stuff. Clothes, movies and food. Just the normal things. I pointed the way until we arrived at the mall. She parked her car and we both got out.
After a few arguments on where to eat, we ended up at Applebee's. After taking a seat and ordering our food, we continued our conversation. "So, why are you here?" She asks and I sigh.
"Mom and Dad are fighting. Might end up on a divorce." I spoke solemnly.
She gasped. "Oh, I didn't expect that. I thought your Mom and Dad are inseparable? They used to tease each other while they made dinner."

I rolled my eyes and folded my arms together across my chest. "Yeah, that's until he decided to cheat on her. He doesn't want us anymore." I answered. Just thinking about my Dad made my blood boil in anger. Soon, our food arrived. We took a few bites and chatted again.
"So, now what? Where you going to study?" She asks after chewing her food and swallowing.
I shrugged. "Mom and I still haven't talked about it. She's at the supermarket right now." Once we finished our food, we paid and stood up to go. "I don't want to go back home." I stated as we stroll around the mall.
She looks at me with confusion. "Why?"
I chuckled and shook my head. "You don't know what's in there."
"Big bugs?"
"Worse."
After a few turns and Ruby buying a few things, we went back to her car. In a few minutes, we drove away. "Can I stay for the night? I'm returning home tomorrow." She announced. I turned to her with eyes wide.
"No. I told you." I spoke and she sighs.
"Why? What's in that new house of yours that you don't want me to see?!" She asked, absolutely frustrated. "What Lucinda? A room full of male strippers?"
"No. Of course not!" My cheeks redden at her guess. I never dream of cheating on my boyfriend. He is good enough for me.
Too good.
"Then, what is it Lucy?! A house full of roaches?"
"A ghost." I admitted suddenly. She slammed the brakes of her car that almost made me fly out of my seat. She looked at me like I have gone mental. She suddenly chuckled before bursting out in laughter. Her reaction startled me very much.
What's so funny?
"Lucy, I don't know what you ate today that made you think ghosts are real. Are you sure your order was right?" She laughs.
I crossed my arms on my chest and narrowed my eyes at her. "Ruby, I'm not kidding. It's real! There's a ghost in our house."
"Oh, stop. Please Lucinda, I don't believe shit like that." She growled. I felt anger rise and was about to argue with her when we suddenly heard someone chuckle. An evil chuckle. And I know, it's not from Ruby. Oh no, I know who it was. It made my blood run cold.
"You don't believe shit? What about me? Am I shit to you?" I gulped very hard, as if my saliva was hard as a rock. Very hard to swallow. He's here.
How?! I thought he is just stuck in that old damn house? Why the hell is he here? I couldn't move, my body paralyzed. I could say the same to Ruby whose knuckles went white on the steering wheel.
"Like I told you Lucinda, it's not only the house." He said, voice dangerously low. "I, too, haunt this town."

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.

Kingdom of Tyr (Original)
This fiction has been concluded as of the end of Book 1, the portion of the story posted here. There will be a complete rewrite as a separate fiction in the future to make the system more consistent and add more to the world while expanding on the events within this fiction. This rewrite will begin eventually, posted as a separate story. Colt, twelve, is walking home from school when he's approached by another boy dressed oddly, who asks him - theoretically - about living in another world. After asking some information about the theoretical other world, Colt says he'd probably prefer to live there, to get away from the problems he has on Earth. Once Colt confirms that, he finds himself in an abandoned city, the other boy revealing himself to be a god, who then offers to train Colt until he can stand on his own and live by himself. After a couple of months, the god sends Colt off for greater training, to learn to use both Aura and Mana, with his only instructions being to return every now and then to visit, and to make friends and have lots of fun. This story follows Colt, a boy named Tyler he meets in the new city, and their journey to growing stronger, having fun, and striving to beat each other. Note: this story is not intended to be professional-quality, and it does draw inspiration from many sources. That said, it is its own story, in its own world. It has never been and never will be edited. It will also have multiple PoV's, starting somewhere after Chapter 8.
