《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Seventeen

Why? Why is it that if something good happens, a bad one comes next? It can't be karma.
I think it's like...
"Lucinda, what happened?" My mother asked, shaking my arm. I turn my head towards her.
Like a curse.
"This town is weird, Mom." I rambled, "I was just talking to a guy when the police appeared and whisked him away."
She frowned. "Maybe, he's a wanted criminal? Probably he stole something from a shop." She suggested to which I shook my head.
"He wasn't even holding anything, and he doesn't look the type even steal. He just came to town yesterday, I think that's impossible." I defended the guy, who I never knew that much. "Wouldn't that be wrong?"
"Well, maybe he did something wrong—"
"No, Mom. Admit it, this town is weird! People here are all weirdos!" I argued. "Can't you see that?"
"I have no time for this Lucinda, so stop arguing with small things like a guy you just met goes to jail or something!"
"No time? Since when did you have time for me?" I retaliated and what shocked me is that she glared at me. Literally glared as if I were her enemy.
"Don't even start talking about that and the way you speak, it seems like you're the boss of me." She scolded sternly. "Remember Lucinda, I am still your mother."
A few tears rolled down my cheek. I didn't know that has an effect on her as she immediately looked at me with full concern. "Lucinda, I'm sorry... I-I..."
I laughed bitterly, wiping the useless waterworks away.
"It's okay. I'm okay. You were never a mother to me anyways." But I am not, my voice cracked at the end.

This time, I noticed her eyes began to become glossy and bit by bit, teardrops began to fall. I never saw my mom cry. I never did. It was always, and has been me.
Before she could say anything to me, I walked pass her and climb upstairs to my room. I heard my mom calling my name in a soft and sad tone of voice, but I choose to ignore her.
When I reached my room, I shut the door and tried to calm down. Letting my fast and deep breaths become steady again, back to normal.
I looked out the window, it was widely open. An idea popped into my mind, grabbing some cash, I changed out of my pajamas into jeans and tees.
I tied the laces of my converse and looked down the window. It wasn't far, and big thick vines are on the wall, maybe I can climb up and down using it.
Letting my left foot out first, then my right, I was fully out. I grabbed the vines and began to descend. I was sure to be quiet, not wanting to let my mom hear.
My feet finally touched the ground, and ran outside the house. I was out the hell hole and threw the hoodie over my head. I began running and running, not bothering to look back.
I stopped running and reached the small mart that I found when I went to the mall awhile ago.
I went to the beverage area and took out two bottles of cherry vodka from the fridge. When I went to the cashier, I could sense her staring at me intently. Trying to see my face since I hid it well with the hoodie.
"Are you underaged?"
Naturally, I shook my head. "I'm 22 years old," I lied smoothly.

It was quiet for some time until she took the bottles. She believed me and punched the codes. I handed the money and waited for my change. Once she gave it to me, I hurriedly walked out with the drinks in hand.
I opened the bottle, and slowly began to finish it. It wasn't my first time to drink, I think this is the fifth time. I once remembered that I got so drunk, I didn't even remember my own name and where I was.
On the way home, I finished the first bottle, threw it away, and began chugging down the second one. My sight was getting blurry, and I felt sick.
The bitter strong taste was painful yet soothing at the same time.
Involuntarily, I vomited on the side walk. Feeling another round of bile rising up my throat, I threw the half filled bottle, and began staggering home.
I soon see the house, and silently went in the gates. I climbed up the veins, lucky enough not to fall, and climb into my room.
"Mmm... So you went out, good thing you didn't went away when you had the chance."
I rolled my eyes mentally and try to block his voice before it gets inside my head. I closed my eyes and try to walk towards my bed. That is when I felt my knee hit a soft surface, I jumped and buried my face into the pillow. Groaning at my own stupidity.
"Are you ignoring me?" He growled, but I choose to ignore him again, since I am not in the mood.
"Lucinda."
I still didn't listen, not caring what he can and might do to me. A loud gasp escaped my lips when I felt him grab my ankles and pulled me down.
"Stop!" I yelled, and I fell to the floor with a loud 'thud!'.
I opened my eyes and stared at him, he was angry I can tell. Way beyond angry. He was still the same. Black empty eyes, pale skin, and an angry face.
Same old dead guy.
"What?" I grumbled, slowly sitting up. Letting a sigh escape and leaned on the bed. "What do you want right now?" I slurred.
I heard him laugh, "Are you seriously drunk?" He asks, and I laughed while smiling like an idiot.
"No. And why do you care.... if I did?" I asked, wiping my lips with the back of my hand.
He was silent at first, but his throat erupted in laughter again. "You really are wasted."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why?" I asked, "You have never seen-" Hiccup. "A drunk person-" Hiccup. "Before?" I slurred, annoyed by my hiccups escaping my lips. "What about your friends? Your girlfriend?"
I saw him stiffen at the words 'friends' and especially at the 'girlfriend'. He glares at me for few moments before hissing at me.
"You know nothing about me. So don't act like you do."
And he disappears.
Again.
Fuck.
