I got a box full of matches and looked at my bag, now filled with my clothes. Tonight, I will be finally free!
I took out the triangle-shaped firecracker, but before I could strike a match or anything, I felt something cold touch my arm.
I jolted and I looked at my right to face him. He burst out laughing, blood dripping down his cracked lips. Shit.
"Hello Princess." Princess?
Shit.
"W-what do you want?" I ask him, and tries to look behind me, but I stubbornly hid the firecracker behind my back.
"If you won't tell me what you're hiding, I'll make you." He hisses. And I glared at him, but my feet were shaking.
"Nothing." I spoke, and he narrows his eyes at me.
"Give it to me Lucinda."
"NO!"
He grabs my arm, and I threw the firecracker away, and we began to wrestle on the floor.
"GET OFF OF ME!" I yelled, as I clawed his back. He hisses and I kicked him on the gut, making him double back in pain and I stood up, breathing hard.
He gritted his teeth together and tried to reach me, but I dodge him and grab my backpack, and got the match box.
I smirked.
He looks at me, confusion on his face, which is the first time I saw it. He looks so lost.
"You wanna know?" I chuckled maniacly, "It's a gift, for you."
I striked a match, and smiled. "Happy 4th of July Harry." I lit the firecracker and threw it at his face, before running.
I ran down the stairs to be greeted by my mom, who looked at me like I was crazy.
"Lucinda! What's happening?" She asks worriedly, Joshua behind her. I pointed an accusing finger at her, "You lied!" I sob.

"What are you talking about Lucinda?"
"I KNOW!" I yell, tears streaming down my face, she soon realized what I meant.
"No, that's not true honey, your father is lying." She speaks, and I laughed. Literally laughed.
"Really? Stop lying to me you, you wh*re!"
The moment I said it her eyes widen, and face began to redden. Before I knew it, I slapped her across the face. She fell to the floor, sobbing so hard.
"Hey!" Joshua yell, and I harden my eyes at him when he tried to help my mom, the mom I thought who loved me, up.
"Go away! This isn't your business! OUT!"
He looks at us before leaving through the front door.
"Forgive me Lucinda, I just don't love your father anymore." My mom sobbed.
"It's too late now."
I ran outside the door, my dad already there. "Lucinda!" He waves, but then, I remembered the firecracker. Mom. The house.
I look back, just because she lied to me, she deserves to get hurt. NO.
"MOM!"
I rushed back inside to get her out, I grab her hand and pushed her outside.
And it was like slow motion, when mom got out, a huge explosion came from inside the house, followed by a few more and more.
The house burst into flames and sonething exploded inside that made me jump and land on the pavement due to the impact, and made my sight a blur.
I saw a black figure walking towards me, but I can't see who it is.
All I heard was sirens, the screams and cries since the fire spread from house to house.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, look at all the destruction you made sweetheart. " He chuckles, I let out shaky breath.
"And I like it." He adds, I felt something drip down my head and all I can see were bright orange and bright red and blue lights.
"Happy 4th of July Lucinda."
And my eyes fluttered close, making my whole world go dark.

Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
