I shut my eyes the next instant when my vision was filled with white. I opened them again and looked around, trying to see where I was. Memories of last night bombed my mind and I realised that I was in Auden's house. A perfect douche of a stranger. I quickly got up, rushed to the bathroom and looked at myself. I was decent. Brushing my fingers through my hair, I straightened out my hair and rinsed my face.
There was a brush and it looked new, so I used it to brush my teeth. After looking a little better, I adjusted the jeans and white tops I had on. He had lent me those to wear.
Releasing a sigh, I strolled out of the room in search of Auden. The house was relatively huge. He told me that he lived here by himself. Where are his parents then? He must be well-off. All the furniture were white, making everything look classy.
Pursing my lips, I reached the kitchen and searched for any food. There was nothing, except a stack of Nutella in a cupboard. Sighing, I pinched my nose, feeling frustrated and sauntered around the house. There was no trace of human life. I was walking along the window when my eyes met a bakery at the nook of the street. It was small.
Quickly yanking my wallet, I took off out of the house, making sure to lock the door behind me softly. Striding down the street, I rounded the corner and reached the bakery. A 'Close' sign was put up, but there was a woman inside, tidying up the tables. They might be opening soon. I nudged the door open anyway.
The woman still hadn't noticed me.
"Yo momma's so fat that her belly button reaches home fifteen minutes before she does!" The woman shouted and for a second, I thought she was yelling at me.
But then, a voice from the kitchen came, a male voice, "Yo momma's so fat, I took a picture of her last Christmas, it's still printing."

The woman cackled before saying, "That's a good one."
I cleared my throat, catching the attention of the woman in front of me. She had black hair, stopping right at her shoulder. There were green streaks along with the hair. Her eyes were black. She had a sharp face, one which would make you cower. She had olive skin, which looked smooth and shiny. She was short, standing with her hands on her hips. She was wearing a shirt that said, 'I'm allergic to stupidity.' A smile tugged my lips at the saying.
"The shop is not open." She proclaimed, proceeding to wipe the counter.
"Yeah. I saw." I wavered. "You are opening soon right?"
"In half an hour." She said, tossing the waste cloth away and it docked swiftly on the tray behind her.
"Oh," I said. "I'm really hungry."
A smile danced on her lips at my sentence and she gestured for me to go to the glass counter which contained all the food.
"What do you want—"
"Oi! Where is your 'yo momma' fat joke?" A voice called from the kitchen.
"Shut up Danny! We have a customer." The woman exclaimed. I smiled at the situation.
She turned around to glance at me. "Sorry. That's Dan. I'm Shira by the way, the most intelligent person on earth."
"I'm Katherine," I replied, giggling. "I would like some chocolate doughnuts and those KitKats."
"Sure, Kath." She replied and I smiled at the friendly nickname she called me. I liked her already. It has been a long time since I have ever had a real friend. So long. I felt a small hole in my chest filling up at her friendly gesture.
She placed two doughnuts and gave me a bag of KitKats. I thanked her and took a seat in the corner, near the window. She plopped in the seat, in front of me.
"You are not from here are you?" She asked and I shook my head 'no'.

"How do you know?"
"People from here are very weird. You are shy."
"I'm not shy," I answered. "I'm just holding back my weirdness until I'm sure you can handle it."
I chuckled and she smiled. "So what are you doing here?" She asked.
For some reason, I felt compelled to tell her everything and so I did. I told her about how I escaped my wedding, how I met Auden and how I ended up here. She listened throughout the whole story.
"Seems like a pretty good guy. Good guys are sinful in bed." She said.
I almost wheezed at the startling sentence. "Oh," I said.
"Let me warn you first though." She said. "Boys are like malls. Fun for a few hours and then it gets boring. They are also like lava lamps. Fun to look at but not at all that bright." I laughed, taking a bite out of my doughnut.
"Here. It's my number. Call me if you ever need Donuts. I like you." Shira said, passing me a card, with her name and her number.
"Sure." I replied and she smiled, nodding before walking away to change the 'close' sign to 'open'. Just when she did that, a handsome tall man, with blonde hair and green eyes, walked towards the bakery. Shira's eyes widened a fraction as she quickly changed the sign to 'close'.
The man shoved the door open and entered anyway. He was clutching a bouquet of white orchids.
"Shira. I'm sorry—"
"Go away you puking pig-eyed maggot-pie!"
"Listen to me. Please take these flowers. You should be a little nicer you know—"
"Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't realise that you are an expert on my life and how I should live it. Please resume while I take notes." Shira replied angrily before turning around, whacking her hair on his face (which I think was on purpose).
"Listen to me. I'm trying hard here. This is the most romantic thing I have—"
"No. This is the second most romantic thing you have ever done." She said. "Remember that time when I found you shoving your dick up that bimbo's ass, that was so fucking romantic Theo."
"I wasn't thinking clearly. Please go out with me." He said.
"I have a boyfriend." She retorted, walking away but I could tell that she was lying. Sure enough, that boy could tell too.
"And I have a math test tomorrow." He replied sarcastically, following her as she walked.
She turned around, looking awfully pissed off. "And I have a tampon in my vagina!"
The guy's eyes widened and his cheeks reddened. "Why would you tell me that?"
"I thought we were listing things I enjoy more than you." She replied, throwing her hands up. The guy sighed heavily.
"I'm sorry. I'm trying you know. I'm trying to make things better—"
"No. Your sorry ass is only making everything much worst. Everything was fine until you!" She spat, her chest heaving up and down heavily.
Theo, the guy, looked like he had just lost everything in the world. He looked so heartbroken and his eyes held so much pain. He let out a sigh, placing the bouquet on a table before walking away from the store. Everything was silent for a few seconds. Shira was just staring at the glass door before tears broke out of her eyes.
I instantly rushed to her side, holding her as I positioned her on the seat gently. She wiped her tears away furiously before looking up at me.
"It's okay. I'm fine. Thanks, Kath." She mumbled and I smiled at her.
"Tell me if I need to make his death look like an accident," I said and she laughed, wiping her tears away.
And at that moment I realised that I now have someone who I can call a friend.
