《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 13

I wake up to a aching headache. I pull the bed sheet up and cover my head in the effort to fall asleep again. I keep shuffling until I come to accept the fact that I wasn't going to fall asleep again anytime soon. I sit up frustrated, angry and tired. "Here eat this." Heath hands me a Tylenol and a glass of water. I take it without question.
I put the glass down on the nightstand next to my bed." Where's Jen?" I ask looking at her bed.
"She slept at Ian's." I look up at Heath's face. His eyes were hidden under a pair of sunglasses.
"Can I?" My hands hover near his glasses and he nods. I slowly pull them off revealing his two black eyes. I sigh feeling a little ashamed.
"I'm sorry." He didn't make Ian write my names down. It wasn't his fault. I guess he deserved one black eyes, but two was just too much.
"It's okay, I guess I kind of deserved it. I'm sorry for literally dragging you to the party." He says, but I don't reply. I'm not mad at him, but I truly wish he hadn't dragged me there. Maybe I wouldn't have remembered that night. "Are you okay?" Heath softly asks like he's trying not to set off a beast.
"I'll be okay later if I'm not right now, and just to let you know I do remember everything from last night. You shouldn't have done that to him. He didn't do anything to me."
"Then why were you crying?" He asks getting angry.
"Because I have my reasons. As much as you think you might know about me, you don't. You need to stop trying to protect me and let me live life with the people I want to live it with it."
"Am I one of them?" He asks looking me dead in the eyes.
"I don't know. But what I do know for sure is I don't want you to leave. At least not right now." My eyes get a little blurry, but I blink the tears away.
"Um, well I should go it's one already and I need to practice before our game."
"What game?" I ask.
"Game for captaincy." He says and my mouth forms a 'O' shape.
"I'll see you there Princess." He says leaving. I sigh. I totally forgot about the game and my right hand still feels a little sore. I notice I'm still in my jeans and sports bra from yesterday. I force myself out of bed heading to the washroom to shower.
After showering, I decide to just wear my pj's and stay in them until I have to change and go out for the game. I walk outside the bathroom to see Jen holding a bag of Timmies and my stomach instantly growls at the sight," Please tell me that's for me." I beg desperately. Jen nods," Yes!" I grab the bag and start munching on the chocolate chip muffin and medium sized English Toffee. "Thank you so much!" I say with a stuffed mouth and Jen laughs.
"Hey, so are you okay? I heard you weren't feeling good and Heath took you home."
"Yeah. Just drank a little too much." I hate lying.
"I see. So are you excited for the game tonight?"

"I'm excited to beat your brother's ass again!" We both laugh.
*********
"Okay guys you need to remember two things. One, boys are always known for their three pointers and lay ups. That means I want someone to always be close down by the hoop and the three point line. Number two, keep your eyes and thoughts on the game forget about anything and everything else. We are going to win this! Understood?!" I ask trying to pump up my team for the game.
"Understood captain!" They all say in unison.
"Most importantly remember to have fun!" The board rings indicating the first period. Kirsten's team is up first and so my team sits down on the bench scanning the players on the guys. I notice Heath is sitting down as well meaning that I'll be playing against him in the shift change.
"Okay, Riley your team's up." Mrs. Larsen says. I nod walking over to the people keeping score and the people on my shift follow. I see Heath doing the same with his team members. When we make eye contact he grins and I glare. I look at the scoreboard zero against zero.
Kirsten's team starts walking off court and we all run in. The ball went out of bounds by the boy's last shift so the ball is ours to pass in. Roxy runs out of bounds and gets the ball. I pick a dark haired guy who looked asian as my check, because he was almost as tall as me maybe a little taller. "Move it she's mine." Heath says to the guy and he stands in front of me blocking my view.
"Ever heard of pick on someone your own size?" I ask.
"Who said your not my size? I bet I could fit in there." He says and I shake my head at his dirty come back.
"Oh so you're saying your small?." His cheeks go a little rosy. The referee's whistle blows indicating the shift's starting. Roxy hits the ball and we all spread out trying to get off our checks. Roxy looks around and passes the ball to Harleen who had no check on her. Harleen dribbles the ball, but stops when someone blocks her. I run around to get closer to her, but Heath's in front of me the whole time.
I stop in one place getting annoyed by Heath's good defensive skills. I still can't see anything until Heath and everyone else start running down the court. "No!" I run behind Heath. I try to out sprint in front of Heath, but the ball gets passed down to him and he does an easy left handed lay up. I here the boys team cheer as the ball goes in.
I put my hands on my knees and breathe heavily. " Come on Princess where'd the skills go? Did someone have a little too much to drink last night?" He says grinning. Oh my god. That's why he brought me to the party?! So I'd be hung over during the game. Ugh! Imma kill him. I think as my head still hurts.
I run out of bound to the referee; he passes me the ball. The whistle blows. I bounce it inside of the court and catch it myself. I dribble up to the half court line where Heath stood awaiting. I look at the board two minutes and thirty seconds left for this period.

I look around at the possibilities in the court. The team's defence was beyond good everyone was completely cut off from the ball. I notice they were all outside the three point line as well. Okay Riley dribble left handed, bounce pass under Heath's legs, catch it then shoot. I think to myself. I pass the ball to my left hand. My heart rate beyond countable. I run up pass it under Heath's legs and catch it. I bounce it once before I look up and shoot. The buzzer goes off after I let go of the ball and I watch it fly into the hoop," Yes!" I yell. I look at the referee whose hand had three fingers up.
I hear the whole team cheering," WHOW! RILEY! RILEY! RILEY!" I laugh walking towards the bench. I got a three point buzzer beater!
*********
It's the last round of the last period and we're winning by one. The scores twenty one to twenty, and my team's on. Three minutes left for the whole game.
The ball was down court with my girls who were trying to get in a shot. I decided to stay down low just incase the boys get a break out. I scan the audience spotting Luke. I smile at him and he smiles back. It made me happy that he was here despite Heath. Luke's left cheek was badly bruised along with a busted lip. It made me feel bad because I can't help, but think I was the reason Heath burst out on Luke like the way he did.
I focus back on the game. I notice Mark running down for a lay up right where I was. Oh shoot. I stand there trying to look intimidating, but Mark runs right through me elbowing me sqaure in the chest.
I'm forced back and I let out a huge breath as the air from my lungs is pulled right out. My eyes tear up immediately after the impact and I can't hear anything either. I try to breathe, but my lungs feel too compressed. I fall down on my knees," Riley?" I hear distantly," Riley? Do you have your inhaler?" I hear, but I was too out of breath to point out to my duffle bag.
I cough and cough until I see blood coming out of my mouth. I see a inhaler held out in front of my eyes. I take it inserting it in my mouth. I squeeze it and instantly feel my lungs open. I regain my breathing and vision. I look around me where Heath, Jen, the referee and coach Larsen were. Heath lets out a hand and I take it pulling myself up. "Hey, princess you should really let people know you have asthma." He whispers into my ear as I stood beside him wiping blood off my mouth.
"How'd you know?"
"The party last night. You were having a hard time breathing." So he's an observer.
"Well thanks." I could tell that he was the one who handed me the inhaler. He smirks in response.
"John it was clear he did that on purpose. This cannot go unnoticed." Coach Larsen says.
"The game has ended, but if you insist because I do believe it was done intentionally Mark is suspended from the first three games of the season."
"But he's the best forward we have!" Heath complains.
"Well he should've thought about the team before he went after Riley." Before Heath could say anything else," Don't you dare defend him." John, the referee says.
"Fine." Heath groans. "At least we won the game."
"You what?!" I look at the scoreboard. Twenty two against twenty one. I lost the game.
"We won princess." He says again, and I glare at him.
"I can see that. Too bad you had to almost get me killed to win." I don't even know Mark. He didn't even come to apologize. Why would he do that? I could've died no doubt.
"If I wanted you dead I wouldn't have handed you the inhaler." He points out.
"Either way I could've still died." I say," But you know what it was a good game." I walk past him brushing our shoulders. I'm not a sore loser, but it was unfair that the shot counted. I didn't even hear the buzzer go off. "Ugh!" I try to get my shoes off.
"Hey." I hear a voice say and I look up to find Luke.
"Luke?" I smile beams on my lips.
"Sorry about the game. How are you feeling?"
"I'm good. Almost died, but good. It's just a game anyways." I slip on adidas sandals.
"Do you want to go out for dinner tonight?" Luke asks as I get up holding my duffle bag.
"Yes, please. I'm starving! I'm also sorry for the way Heath burst out on you. It was my fault."
"Don't apologize. If not for your tears Heath would've found another reason to beat me." He simply states," Pick you up around eight?"
"Yeah just message me when you're here."
He scratches the back of his head," I don't have your number." He says feeling a little shy.
"Oh, well give me your phone." He hands it to me. I put in my number and save it as Rile's #1. Seems a little self conceited, but ya know. Whatever. "Now you can message me whenever you want." I hand his phone back o him. He chuckles at how I saved it.
"Okay I'll see you soon." He says leaving.
"Hey, Kat?" I ask walking over to her.
"Oh hey, how are you?" She asks.
"I'm better." I smile," Why were you late?" She showed up during third period.
"Uh, my car broke down." She says.
"Oh, well I haven't seen you in a while are you busy tomorrow?" I ask.
"Nope." She says.
"Great. Then come to my dorm and we can hangout. Room two twelve." I say walking away before she could protest. She's definitely hiding something. I think to myself walking out the gym. I knew the coach needed more time to decide who becomes captain, and I wanted to give it to her.
A/N:
Do you think it was Riley's fault the girls lost? Why did Mark almost kill Riley? Did he even do it on purpose?
Love you guys! Keep reading it keeps me motivated to write more! I really hope you're enjoying and show me by voting!<3

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

The Destiny of a Mortal God (Hiatus)
Currently on hiatus, in part because I'm unsatisfied with how the story was starting to develop, and even though I had ideas how to run it, I still made mistakes far too big to correct them. Secondly I'm currently stressed about university, and sincerely, I don't see myself keeping this project. I may or may not retake this project or even start a new one, but one thing's for sure, it isn't happening anytime soon (Meaning until june, aprox, or until I can keep up with class). ... Lyon Ironblood, 19 years old and orphan, is taken by Kronos from the present Earth to another world, where he shall fight and struggle to get stronger so that he shall acomplish the mission Kronos assigned him. He shall fight gods, demons, dragons and monsters and even mortals who surpass those. But to do so he shall receive, though only after he proved himself worthy, a power beyond imagination. This power will not be handed freely to him, and he'll have to work hard to develop it. He shall receive the X-Men System. A magic system designed to enhance Lyon and give him the mutations from the X-Men serie. He shall start from scratch, with powers that will seem less than a mere human, and develop them with effort, to surpass the gods. [I don't claim ownership of any of the X-Men powers or characters, neither the cover, only thing I claim are the ideas which make the story and put together their powers, how they'll develop from scratch to even higher worlds than they were suposed on the series, other than that, all X-Men characters named (which I'll try to avoid to a certain point) are not of my property]
