《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 27

I wake up to a bright light and a slow and steady beep. I feel someone's hand intertwined with mine," L-Luke?" I ask trying to get up.
I hear the person move. Heath looks down at me," He went down to get food." He says lightly. I force myself to get up," Wait just lay down." He says and I follow.
The bed starts moving up and ends up stopping in a sitting position which was very comfortable, because it supported my back. "What happened?" I ask trying to recall what happened.
"You blacked out after the fight..." He says.
"Oh. Anything serious?"
"You were low on nutrients and dehydrated." I nod and smile weakly. Haha I beat him. I grin.
"I beat you." I say like a child.
"Ha. Ha." Heath glares at me.
"Hey, it was a fair fight. Stop being a sore loser." I narrow my eyes at him.
"Yeah. Yeah nice to see someone's feeling better." Heath says and I laugh. The door opens revealing Luke holding a bouquet of flowers.
"You're awake!" A huge smile covers his face. I smile. He gently kisses my forehead and hands me a bouquet of red roses.
"Thank you." I smile brightly. Heath's phone rings. He picks it up.
"Hello?...... Yeah she just woke up....... Okay.... Okay see you... Bye" He ends the call," It was the gang they said they're coming. They wanted to stay, but only two people were allowed."
"How long have I been here?"
"Two days." Heath replies.
My eyes widen," Two.... days." I repeat shocked.
"You really scared us." Luke said and I frown. Two days I didn't even feel that bad. "Here I got something else for you." Luke says reaching into his pocket. He takes out a white envelope and hands it to me. I curiously take it from him and tear it open from one side.
I pull the paper out and read it. $50,000,000. It was the winning amount. "Thanks." I smile.
"Yeah no problem. My dad left it for me to give to the winner." He says. I look at Heath who was smiling.
"Heath?" He nods," I want to give you twenty five percent of the amount." I tell him.
"No. Why? I didn't even win. It's yours."
"I know, but I want to. Is it that big of a deal? And you got a couple of bruises too."
"I'm not taking your money." He says.
"Don't think of it as mine. It's yours, you've earned it. And don't dare fight with me." I glare at him. His mouth opens and closes like a fish and he ends up not saying anything. I smile.

I'm set for life. Literally. Cutting out Heath's and Logan's thirty two million, eighteen million are mine alone. Not mentioning the couple million I have saved up from before.
"And Riley?" Luke asks and I nod," The bank won't ask any questions when you deposit the check because they think we've made some sort of business deal."
"Thank you, Luke." I was literally running out of words. My life is perfect right now. I'm happy with a ton of friends and a boy friend that truly cares about me.
"Hey!" Kylie comes in holding a bunch of balloons. Behind her was the rest of the gang. Dylan sends Luke a cold stare.
Luke gives me a weak smile," I just have to make a call, I'll be back. Okay?" I nod knowing that he was just making an excuse to leave. He kisses my forehead and exits through the door.
"Hey, fighter!" Kylie squeaks and I laugh. She hands me a couple of balloon and I raise my eyebrows.
"Happy birthday?" I ask.
She rolls her eyes," I couldn't find any that said get well soon. These were the next best thing." And we all laugh.
"Ouch." I grab my stomach in pain.
"Are you okay?" Heath's face straightens up.
"Y-yeah. I'm fine. It's just the bruise." I say.
A man dressed in a white doctor's coat walks in. He had white and grey hair. He didn't look too old because he didn't have many wrinkles maybe around forty or mid thirties at the least. "Ah, Ms. King. How do you feel?" He asks looking between his clip board and the monitors.
"Better." I say.
"That's great. I'm Dr. Richard by the way." He says.
"Sooo when can I go home?" I ask curiously.
"Ah, in the evening. We just have to run a couple of tests and you should be good to go. Just a little tip Ms. King please manage the amount of energy you use between work and home."
What... I see everyone in the room covering their lips almost trying to hold back a smile. Between home and work?...... Oh. No! ,"No! I mean," I feel my cheeks heating up," thank you." And he leaves.
Everyone bursts out laughing. Well more like the boys. Jen and Kylie were trying their best not to laugh, but they eventually broke. "Holy shit guys. Calm down." I mumble getting under the covers.
"Come on Riley you've been with Luke for one day and you already had sex?" Kylie asks pulling the covers.
I gasp," I did not." I can feel my face getting beet red.
"Oh come on." She laughs. I glare at all of them and they stifle their laughters.

"What's that?" Ian asks looking down at my hands.
"It was pay day." I simply state.
"Damn. That envelop contains fifty million dollas." Dylan says a little too loudly. "You're a millionaire."
I roll my eyes," I'm a broken millionaire." I laugh. We were all laughing when all our eye avert to the door.
Logan clears his throat and we all sober up," May I talk to Riley? Alone." He adds.
Everyone looks at me and I nod. One by one they all exit. Ian and Dylan both tell me to get better and that they'll meet me later tonight. Jen and Kylie are also leaving and they'll be in the dorm when I get home.
Heath shares a weird look with Logan before he leaves. It was as if they talked with their eyes. I put on a straight face as Logan sits beside me on the bed. "Riley." He sighs. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you the whole truth of why I came here or made you join the fight. And I was wrong to ask you to stay away from Luke. I can clearly see that he makes you happy and I had no right to ask you to give up your happiness for a suspicion."
"It's okay." I say with a genuine smile. I don't hold grudges because they don't hurt the other person as much as they hurt you. And I don't care if that's selfish because I know the rules I live by have made me the person I am today and I am proud of me right now. "And you have every right to care about me. Do you understand? You are my childhood friend. You were just looking out for me and I will always appreciate that. So don't stop what you do best. Care about me and I will always care about you."
A peaceful smile covers his face and he wraps me around in a tight hug. "I'm so sorry. I love you." He says breaking the hug.
"I love you too."
"What's that?" He asks looking at the envelope. And I roll my eyes at the question I've already answered once.
"It's our pay check." I grin.
"Fifty million?" He asks.
"Yup, but only fives yours." I stick my tongue.
"I know. But thanks. I love this side business." He sighs.
"You're just lucky nobody knows about your side business or else you wouldn't have become officer."
"Shh. Not so loud someone might hear you." Logan jokes.
"You should've worried about that before you committed the crime." I grin.
"So when are they releasing you?"
"This evening." I say.
"That's great. I have to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"My flight's in an hour." He says.
"What? You're leaving?" I frown and he nods," But you were only here for like two weeks."
"Duty calls." He sighs. I continue frowning. Seeing him frown I hug him.
"Don't forget me when you get back home." I sigh.
"I won't. Promise." I break the hug," Visit me. Soon."
"I will." I say sadly. We both sit in silence for awhile. I can tell Logan wants to say something, but he's having some sort of conflict on weather or not he should say it.
"Riley?"
"Yeah?" He doesn't look at me.
"Y-your dad." He sighs," He knew I would visit you one day. He wanted me to tell you that," he sighs," that he's happy that you decided to leave. You were a pain in his ass. And a bunch of other profanities I don't really want to list."
"Oh." I breathe. My chest feeling heavy. "Thanks."
"For what?"
"Not hiding what he said."
"You know if it was the other way around I would want you tell me so I just did the same." I nod knowingly.
After I turned eighteen, I had moved out with Logan. Some part of me felt guilty and horrible for leaving my dad stranded, but the other part of me felt happy and relieved. Logan knew this. Even after I moved, I sent my dad money so that he would still have a house to live in and food to eat. I visited him once. He slapped me and closed the door on my face. That was before I was about to move here.
I had decided to never talk to him again and I'm living up to it. Logan wasn't being cruel or rubbing salt on a wound he was just reminding me why I should never go back to my dad. Or apologize for moving out.
I feel Logan's thumb wipe an unknown tear away. "I'm really gonna miss you." I sigh pulling him into another hug.
"I know. I'm really going to miss you too." I smile. I go back to my position after two minutes of hugging in silence. Logan gets up.
"Say hi to Maggi for me." I say.
"Yeah." Maggi and him have dated since middle school, they recently got engaged. They have a very firm relationship where they understand each other perfectly. Maggi's focusing on school right now so that's why they don't have any kids in the picture, yet.
"Yeah definitely. Bye Riley." He says.
"Bye Logan." I smile.

Summoning America
Entirely cut off from Earth, the United States finds itself in a scientific impossibility: the entire country, including the continental landmass and separated states and territories, was transported to another world. Unlike Earth, this new planet boasts phenomena unknown to science. Magic reigns supreme in this new region of the universe, bolstered by the natives' own scientific progression. Monsters roam wastelands and dungeons, subsisting off unfortunate travelers, local fauna, and sometimes even entire towns! Ambassador Samuel Anders is tasked with contacting the various nations and entities of this new world. Despite his best attempts at diplomacy, the arrogance and hostility of the natives prove to be an unnavigable barrier. War is the only alternative. Eventually, fears surface regarding an ancient evil: the Ravernal Empire. How will the United States handle the threats of this new neighborhood? What magical wonders will its adventurous citizens find? This Summoning Japan inspired work will follow the United States as it is summoned to a New World. The story will begin with the United States’ initial encounter with the Rodenius continent. Although starting similarly to the original story, Summoning America will begin to diverge greatly as the war against the Lourian Kingdom comes to an end. For the context of this work, I expect that you have already familiarized yourself with the original piece, “Summoning Japan” also known as “Nihonkoku Shoukan”.
