《The Wonders of Fall; A Modern Zelink AU Story》A Walk in the Park (5)

"ARYLL I HAVE AN AMAZING IDEA!"
"Ouch! Don't yell so loud into the phone!"
"SORRY!"
"QUIET DOWN!"
"YOU QUIET DOWN!"
Aryll was curled up in the corner of her room on the phone with Tetra. She was only there because Tetra wouldn't tell her what she was planning until she was in that precise location.
"Okay Tetra what's this about?"
"You're in the back corner of your room?"
"Yeah..."
"In the corner where you used to hide your stuffed seagull so I wouldn't see it-"
"WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?"
"...That corner?"
Aryll sighed into the phone, "yes that corner."
"Okay, is Link around your house?"
"No, he's at work. You should know his schedule by now I've told you a million times."
"I know just checking-" the line went silent for a moment.
"Tetra?"
"Yeah?"
"Can this wait till you get to my house?"
"NO IT CAN'T!"
"WOULD IT KILL YOU TO NOT SHOUT INTO THE PHONE!?"
"LOOK WHO'S TALKING!"
"SHUT UP!"
After a rather long debate the two quieted down and Tetra finally revealed her reason for all the precaution.
"I can't have anyone overhear you while we are in this conversation. Especially Link."
"Um...why?"
"Because it will spoil everything! And then Link would know what we were up to."
Aryll rubbed her eyes, "so this is about setting him up with Zelda?"
"Yes. Now are you sure that you won't be overheard by anyone?"
"I'm sure Tetra," Aryll responded annoyedly.
"Okay. I want us to go on a walk today."
"Just us? Link wouldn't let me go out alone, he doesn't trust me that much yet."
"So? Just have him come with us."
Aryll smirked even though her friend couldn't see her, "ohhhh I think I see where this is going."
"Yeah? Then you tell me what we're gonna do."
Aryll sat up straighter, the excitement making her giddy, "so we also take Zelda along for the walk right? We can go over to the park or something, it's pretty in the fall."
Both girls were silent.
Isn't that what she was planning too? Aryll thought.
"...And..?" Tetra asked.
"What? You want to do more?" Aryll asked, what more could they do on a walk than...walk?
"C'mon Aryll you know...what is something that we as immature citizens of this mature world do?"
Aryll's eyes lit up and she laughed evilly, "WE LEAVE THEM!"
"WE RUN AWAY FROM THEM AND LEAVE THEM ALONE!"
"QUALITY ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATIONS WILL BLOOM!"
"WE SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR MARRIAGE!"

The two girls stopped shouting and laughed into their phones. "This is a great idea Tetra! How do we suggest it to them though?" Aryll asked.
"You just have to make sure that both you and Link answer the door," Tetra said, "and I'll have to make sure that Zelda comes up with me to the door. That way we'll all be there by the door when you open it."
"Okay, then what?"
"You suggest innocently: 'oh it would be just so nice to go on a walk today in a park today don't you think Tetra?" Tetra imitated.
"Hey I don't sound like that!" Aryll claimed.
"Yeah you do. Anyways, I'll agree and then we'll both ask our siblings to come along, or we can do it together or whatever," Tetra concluded.
"Do you think that they'll both accept?"
"Well if the other is near then they'll probably be more pressured to say yes," Tetra said, "not to mention we can use our cuteness to beg them to if they don't want to at first."
"Great!" Aryll said, "hopefully this pushes them closer together huh?"
"Trust me, it will."
_^_
(DING DONG!)
"Oh big brother!"
"What is it Aryll?"
"Could you go get the door for me? I'm a little busy at the moment."
"Uh, sure." Link put down his homework and made his way over to the door. When he opened it he saw Zelda and Tetra standing on the doormat.
"Hey Zelda," Link greeted.
"Oh, h-hey Link," Zelda replied shifting her feet noticeably.
"Hey where's Aryll?" Tetra wondered, looking around Link.
Link heard Aryll run and stop next to him, "Hey Zelda! Hey Tetra!"
"Hey there...are we going to go in?" Zelda asked uncertain.
Link realized that he had been blocking the door. "Oh yeah sorry," he stepped out of the way, "come on-"
"Hang on Link I have an idea!" Aryll said stepping in front of Zelda, "I think it would be fun to go on a walk at the park today!"
"Hey yeah that sounds fun!" Tetra agreed smiling, "It's so pretty in the fall...we should go!"
"Well...I don't think I'm comfortable with you and Tetra going off to the park by yourselves," Link said. Good grief...Aryll and her ideas.
"Well yeah I know you aren't," Aryll said as if she had been expecting him to say that, "and so that's why you should to take us!"
Link nearly groaned as he scratched the back of his head, "I don't know Aryll, I have some homework I should get to. I have to finish it before break."

"Awww please big brother? We really want to go!"
"Yeah please?"
Both Aryll and Tetra adorably stared up at Link. Link actually groaned, "fine I'll take you."
"Yaaaay!"
Tetra looked at Zelda who was still standing awkwardly, "hey sis you should come too!"
Zelda turned a much more noticeable color of red, "who me?"
"Yeah Zelda! You'll come won't you?" Aryll asked.
"Well...I don't know..."
"If you want to stay because of that stupid book-"
"It's not a stupid book Tetra!"
"It's a romance," Tetra stated as she smirked.
Zelda's blush reddened even more, "w-well there's nothing wrong with that!"
"Please won't you come?"
Zelda groaned as well, "okay fine I'll come. As long as I'm not imposing...Link?"
"Oh you're welcome to come along," Link said as he strolled past them towards the car, "the both of us are in the same boat I guess...our siblings want us both to come."
"Yeah...you're right."
Aryll and Tetra quickly took the back seats of the car, that left Zelda and Link in the front.
_^_
The short drive to the park was quiet and a little awkward. Zelda acted as if she were used to it.
When they arrived at the park they all exited the car and walked together to the middle of the park.
The trees' Autumn-orange and yellow leaves were just starting to fall off. It was a magnificent and peaceful sight.
When the reached the center of the park they viewed several paths they could take.
"Which one should we take?" Tetra asked.
"This one!" Aryll decided and they began to take the certain path.
Zelda bravely tried to start a conversation with Link. They were, coincidentally, walking next to each other.
"So um...L-Link?"
"Yes?"
"I've been wondering...what do you like to do?"
Link looked confused, "what do I like to do?"
"Well...y-yes. What do you like to do for fun?"
"Um..." Link was silent for a moment. Zelda became a little confused as well, why is it taking him this long to think about what he likes to do?
"I don't really like to do anything," Link said simply, "the world tries to push you down and we're meant to endure it right?"
"Um...I guess that's a way of seeing the world," Zelda said cautiously, does he not have fun at all?
"Well...there must be something that you like to do."
Link thought again, "well...I guess I like to read."
"Really?" Zelda asked excitedly, "I like to read too! What sort of genre?"
"Well...I read things for school. But I suppose my preference is adventure."
"Interesting...I've never really got into those."
Link turned to her as they were walking, "of course you don't. You like to read romances don't you?"
"I-" Zelda stammered as she turned a little red. Her obnoxious little sister had such a big mouth.
"Yes I do," Zelda said with shame, "it...makes it easy to pass the time."
"Yeah that's me and my homework," Link said sighing a little, "I'm taking so much at the University right now; I'm pushing myself as hard as I can."
"Why?" Zelda asked. That sort of life didn't sound fun at all.
"Well I want to get a stable, good job as fast as possible," Link said, "so I can support Aryll while she's with me and myself for as long as possible. Honestly I just want to get the schooling over with so that's why I'm putting a lot on my plate."
The part about supporting Aryll struck Zelda as odd. So that's why I haven't seen their parents around? He's supporting Aryll right now? But why wouldn't their parents do that?
She decided to edge into it slowly, "how come you're supporting Aryll?"
Link's eyes flashed for a moment. With barely any hesitation he said, "because I'm the only one who can."
He looked like he didn't want to talk about it.
The sudden answer surprised Zelda. What exactly did he mean by that? Were their parents not the greatest? What had happened? Zelda would have to ask Aryll or Tetra about it later.
Link suddenly started looking around, "oh great. Our siblings are gone."
"Huh?" Zelda asked blinking out of her thoughts. She too looked around and couldn't see Aryll or Tetra anywhere. She had been so distracted talking to Link that she hadn't paid attention to them running off.
Zelda's stomach suddenly lurched, did Tetra and Aryll plan this so Link and I could be alone?
"Let's go look for them," Link said quickening his pace, Zelda following shortly alongside him.
_^_
Aryll and Tetra were hiding behind a large bush spying on their older siblings.
"They look so cute when they walk together," Aryll sighed, "I really hope this works out."
"It better or else I'm going to starve myself," Tetra said, "It'll drive Zelda crazy."
"That's insane," Aryll said, "instead, if it doesn't work out then we can both smash glass dishes in each of our houses."
"Oooh yeah that sounds like a lot more fun," Tetra agreed.
"But let's not think about that. Let's be positive and optimistic about this opportunity. Oh I think they finally noticed that we were missing."
The two of them ducked their heads a little farther and watched their siblings look around for a moment before continuing on the path to look for them.
"What a great bonding moment huh?" Tetra asked.
"Yeah," Aryll agreed, "I guess we should be getting back to them before they get worried. C'mon let's go."

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
