《The Wonders of Fall; A Modern Zelink AU Story》Confessions (19)

After the rest of the day at Zelda's house, and as he and Aryll were traveling home, Link couldn't help but wonder more about where he and Zelda were standing in their relationship.
In the past couple hours Zelda and Link had spent the entire time talking. Zelda shared the broad outline of The Wooden Chair, and Link had launched into a long storytelling debut where he told Zelda some of the insane things he and Sidon did back in high school.
They hadn't discussed about their relationship at all, and Link was pleased to see Zelda comfortable with him. He had been surprised to learn from Aryll that she liked him, and also surprised when she never brought it up; he would have expected her to.
Was she happy where they were? Should he bring it up? He would be dishonest if he said he didn't want to be more than friends. What did people usually do in these situations?
After tucking Aryll in bed, Link headed upstairs to his room and got into bed. All through the night it bugged him.
The next day, as he went on his way, Link noticed how different the world was when he was in love. It wasn't so gloomy; the world wasn't pushing him down so much anymore. There was a bounce in his step.
As he noticed the snow it reminded him of her. It seemed that no matter what he did or thought, it eventually always led back to Zelda. And when he thought of Zelda, he could find joy in doing things. He wanted a future with Zelda.
It seemed that whatever he did, he thought he was doing for her.
When he got home, he anxiously waited for Zelda and Tetra to arrive. What was he going to say? She had completely changed his life for the good. She was the cause of his new happiness. He didn't want to let her leave him.

Aryll found Link standing nervously by the door. She looked at the grandfather clock on the wall, "you know...they're not going to come by for another half hour."
Link's face flushed a little red, "yeah yeah I know."
"And you're still going to wait?"
"You wanna stop me?" Link joked.
"I won't stop ya," Aryll said with her hands in the air, "I'm happy to know you return Zelda's feelings." She looked at him intently, "you do...right?"
"Yeah...I do," Link said slowly, his face getting even redder. It was worse for him to admit this in front of Aryll: she and Tetra were the ones who had tried to set them up.
"Aww Link I didn't know you were so soft!" Aryll said with sparkling eyes, coming up close to him. "You're totally caught in Zelda's charm."
This was really embarrassing for Link. He waved her away, "yeah yeah I get it."
Aryll put her hands on her hips and smirked, "and who's responsible for making this outcome possible?"
Link sighed and looked at the ground, "my amazing sister Aryll that's who."
"Ding ding you're right! Now what should I get for my reward?"
Link smirked at her, "I would think getting us together would be you're reward wouldn't it?"
Aryll thought for a bit and reworded her question. "How is Link going to thank me?"
"You want any more stuffed seagulls?"
"Link!" Aryll wined, "I'm not obsessed with seagulls!"
"Yes you are! I found a stuffed seagull in your room-"
"-that doesn't mean anything-"
He eyed her hard, "would that suffice Aryll?"
She let her head drop in defeat, "If you insist."
Link laughed to himself, it was truly adorable how she loved seagulls so much.

"Why do you love seagulls?" Link asked.
"Hmm," Aryll thought looking upwards at the ceiling.
"I don't know they just make me happy," Aryll responded shyly twirling a bit in her dress.
"Fair," Link said turning back to the door.
"Why do you love Zelda?"
The question caught Link off guard and he hesitantly turned around to see Aryll smiling cutely up at him.
"It's hard to explain," Link said scratching the back of his head, "there's a lot of reasons."
"Gimme one then," Aryll insisted.
Link thought for a moment. "I love her fun and cute personality, it seems to match me pretty well...and I love the way she...loves me?"
Link paused, "that made no sense did it?"
"Love doesn't have to make sense."
Link couldn't agree more, "no it doesn't."
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and Link's heart skipped a beat. Talking with Aryll had made him even more nervous.
Aryll skipped off and yelled, "I'll be in my room!"
Link opened the door to see Tetra and Aryll standing on the doorstep. His heart pounded hard, "you can go inside Tetra, I'd like to talk to Zelda out here."
Tetra reacted with a wink and headed inside, as Zelda suddenly looked more tense. He shut the door behind Tetra and looked at Zelda. Putting a hand on his heart to try and calm it he took a step forward.
"I...love you Zelda."
The wind was blowing now. A couple leaves swirled around their feet on the porch.
Zelda took a step back in surprise, but it didn't take her long to smile back at him.
"I love you too Link."
"I know."
Zelda looked surprised again and smirked, "wow, I guess you're not as dense as I thought."
Link laughed and bashfully shrugged, "no I am. Aryll had to tell me for it to get to my head."
"Huh?" Zelda asked slightly annoyed as she broadly looked behind Link as if she were looking at Aryll, "that little snitch."
After a little laughing and silence, Zelda testily took a step forward. Link opened his arms, "I'm sorry it took me so long."
Zelda quickly stepped into his embrace. Here she was in his arms, trying to warm her shivering body with his.
Zelda looked up at him gleefully, "usually...based off my experience from reading romance novels, this is where we would kiss."
"Really?" Link asked scratching the back of his head, "I mean that's great...but I've never kissed before."
"Well...neither have I."
Link smiled down at her, "I guess that makes it better huh?"
Zelda was already reaching for his lips, "y-yeah..."
There on the porch they kissed softly. Hearing a peaceful Fall from all directions.
They heard a rap on the window. Breaking apart suddenly they looked around to see Tetra and Aryll peeking through the front window and cheering them on.
Link rolled his eyes, "I should have known they were going to do that."
Zelda laughed again, "it's okay...they helped us out after all."
