《Love You In My Mind // Sirius Black》Chapter 22

I couldn't sleep that night. Again. The bright light from the full moon didn't let my mind rest, and I had really bad cramps on top of that.
I tried every position, but not one eased the pain. My body was really bad with pain. I'd fainted once, just because of period cramps, and I don't even think that mine were so much worse than other people's. My pain tolerance was just very low, which brought me to situations like these.
Once I broke out in a cold sweat, I couldn't take it anymore. Literally. It took all of my strength to not burst into tears. I wanted to scream, but pulled myself together to not wake my dorm mates up. So with trembling limbs, I stood up and wrapped myself in my dressing gown, slowly making my way to the common room.
I took my wand with me for emergencies, but I doubted that I'd manage to cast any spell in my current condition.
Luckily, I didn't have to. The moonlight and the crackling torches lighting up the corridors were so bright that I didn't even have to cast lumos.
Halfway through my way, I started to feel nauseous, so I knew that I had to hurry. Outside of the doors to the Hospital wing, black dots spotted my vision, and I blinked rapidly before hurrying through the door and quickly laying down on the floor. After a few calming breaths, the pain didn't subside but the black spots disappeared.
That had been close. A few seconds after that, I usually passed out. Now I did my best to keep my circulation going, drawing up my legs.
Okay, I'd prevented fainting and got to the Hospital wing in time. On to step two. "Madame Pomfrey?" I cried out with a weak voice.
I was still trembling and feeling terribly nauseous.
I don't know how she did it, but the Healer had heard me and hurried towards me. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw me laying on the cold floor, and she quickly glanced at the moon, looking weirdly terrified.
"What is it? Were you outside!?"
That question was too much for my already dizzy head. "Errmm, no? I'm not really in a state to walk right now?"
Madame Pomfrey let out a relieved sigh, and I was suspicious. Why had she been so terrified of me having been outside?
But a new set of cramps interrupted that train of thoughts immediately. I groaned quietly and pulled my legs even closer to my belly.
Madame Pomfrey's wand lit up. She was also wearing a dressing gown, and her black hair was loose, but other than that she looked like always. "What's wrong, dear?" She bent down and laid a hand on my sweaty forehead. "You're not burning up."
I weakly shook my head. "I've got circulation problems, and terrible cramps. I was hoping that you had a few potions?"

Madame Pomfrey nodded and slowly helped me sitting up. "Of course. Let's get you in a bed, alright?"
With her help, I managed to stand up, and she manoeuvred me to the closest bed.
I kept my hands pressed to my belly while the Healer was building a pile with the pillows from the beds next to me and laid my feet on top of it. "Now try to relax, and I'll get something."
With that, she headed off and I skrewed my eyes shut again. But hey, at least I hadn't thrown up.
Oh, thank the magic for that potion Madame Pomfrey gave me. It literally worked wonders and the pain disappeared very quickly.
Now I was only exhausted from almost fainting and hurrying to the other side of the castle in the middle of the night.
Now, even that full moon couldn't stop me from falling asleep.
~~~~~
"- here, Mr Lupin."
I woke up, but still felt incredibly exhausted, so I didn't open my eyes yet. I just noticed that I'd slept with my mouth open, so I quickly closed it, hoping I hadn't drooled. But my cheek felt kind of wet. Oops. How much I hated that part of me, it was terribly embarrassing.
I remembered that I was in the Hospital wing, so I could sleep in, right?
"How are you feeling?"
A quiet voice answered the nurse's question. "Okay, all in all. It was a rough night, but I'm fine."
Wait. That was Remus talking. Why was he here, again? He was in the Hospital wing quite often, now that I thought about it. The last time had been after the Quidditch match. He'd had a bruised eye. And now he was saying that he had had a rough night? Hadn't Sirius said something similar back then, too? I couldn't shake the feeling that something was up.
"Alright. Let me just heal this bite, and then you can catch up on a few hours of sleep."
Bite?!
What was going on!? What kind of rough night could it have been when Remus had been bitten and turned to Madame Pomfrey because of it? It didn't make any sense whatsoever!
What was going on??
My mind was spinning.
But with a glance at the clock on my night stand, I saw that we still had one hour until breakfast started, and since I'd only had a little sleep tonight, I should probably catch up on some sleep, too.
Although I struggled at first, my exhaustion still got the better of me and I dozed off again.
I woke up to the smell of Omelette. I opened my eyes and saw exactly that standing on my nightstand, and Madame Pomfrey was currently setting another plate down five beds away from me.
Where Remus was sitting up, smiling politely. "Thank you."
I sat up and looked around. It was very bright again, and birds were chirping in the distance.
The movement made Remus look at me. His eyes were wide. "Oh, Freya, I didn't know that you were here?"
I almost replied that I had been here first and that he was the one who'd sneaked in at dawn, but I bit my tongue. His actions were weird, but if I wanted to find out what was going on, I shouldn't tell him my best clues first. I should wait to use them as my final strike.
"I came here tonight," I said instead. "I had circulation problems."
I blushed at the thought of me telling him about the fact that I'd almost fainted because of period cramps. Although they were natural and nothing to be ashamed of, and although every person managed and handled them differently, I was a little ashamed for being so sensitive.
So to avoid any more questions, I turned to my food and ate it in silence. Remus did the same.
When we were almost done with eating, Madame Pomfrey walked up to Remus first, dropping a bag, and then she came to me and handed me my bag. "The house elves dropped this off earlier. You'll be able to go to class directly after you've changed. You can use the bathroom next door."
I looked at the time. "Oh, we're late already!" The lessons had started one minute ago, to be exact.
"That's no problem," Madame Pomfrey waved her hand dismissively. "You're coming from the Hospital wing. I've only released you now and your Professor will understand that." She pressed a little note in my hand. "Just give him this."
I nodded and set my now empty plate to the side. "Okay. Thank you, Madame Pomfrey. I'll go change now."
I only briefly smiled at Remus, who was still eating, and hurried out of the room.
A little down the corridor was a girls bathroom, where I quickly took my school uniform and robes out of my bag and changed. With a look in the mirror, I noticed with embarrassment that I'd talked to Remus with very greasy hair. But it made sense, considering I'd been sweaty yesterday.
I used my wand to quickly wash my hair and teeth, before heading off and hurrying to the class I was currently running late for. Charms.
"I'm sorry I'm late."
I was blushing terribly, since everyone was looking at me standing in the doorway. I caught Sirius' eyes, but looked away before I could blush even more.
"Is there a reason for your tardiness?" Professor Flitwick asked with a raised eyebrow. This situation was thousand times more terrible because of the silence around us. It seemed like the class was writing an essay.
I didn't want to tell all of Ravenclaw and Gryffindor about my late night trip to the Hospital wing, so I just nodded and walked towards him to hand him the note that the Healer had given me earlier.
My teacher skimmed over it before looking at me again. "Very well. You can take your seat, then."
I nodded and almost tripped on my feet while hurrying to my seat.
"Where've you been?" Lina asked with a raised eyebrow, the quill in her hand forgotten. Aleya and Valerie were also looking at me curiously, and I don't know if I imagined it, but I also felt a pair of grey eyes stare at the back of my head.
"I'll tell you later," I just mumbled. "What have I missed?"
Just when Lina was about to explain our assignment, the door of the classroom opened again. This time, Remus entered with a shy smile.
"Hi Professor."
Professor Flitwick just nodded. And I couldn't believe my eyes.
Why hadn't he asked Remus where he'd been? Where was Remus' note from Madame Pomfrey?
My eyes followed Remus through the room while he was walking to the back of the class to sit down next to Peter.
My eyes fell on a fresh scar on the side of his throat.
And I didn't listen to Lina's instructions anymore. My mind was running highwire, occupied with something entirely different.
Hadn't Madame Pomfrey talked of a bite she'd heal? And Remus still had a scar on his throat now? Madame Pomfrey couldn't heal it completely?
That was his version of a rough night?
I listed all of the other weird parallels in my mind. He was absent pretty frequently, if one thought about it. And the teachers never brought it up. Professor Flitwick seemed to have known where Remus had been, without him having to tell the Professor. So the teachers were in on this. And Remus was ill very often; a monthly visitor of the Hospital wing. At least ever since he'd started to spend time with me. Probably before that, too, I only hadn't noticed it back then.
My breath hitched.
Wait.
A monthly visitor of the Hospital wing. After the Quidditch match and this night, he'd returned in the mornings, completely exhausted.
With a bruised eye then, and a bite and scar this time.
My heart started to beat rapidly in my chest.
I checked my mind for the key information.
And it fit perfectly. I remembered not being able to sleep the night after the Quidditch game, because the bright moonlight had kept me awake.
It had been the same last night. The full moon, which also happened once a month, just like Remus' visits to the Hospital wing.
It all made sense!
Why hadn't I noticed it earlier!?
Oh shit.
Again, I didn't proof read because I'm tired and have to sleep now :)
I hope you liked it!
