《Magus Of Darkness》Chapter 98: Human DNA

“Mary, do you know why I showed you, my face?” Adrius asked, for the first time, he had shown his face willingly to his subordinate.
Mary shook her head; Adrius can tell that she is very confused by his action. “I will tell you,” he said, painfully aware of how exposed his face is. “You have served me for years now, and did an excellent job. You even gave me an excellent lab rat for my experiments. But let's be honest, this was the limit of your use. So, I thought of showing you my face as a payment, or maybe I was just bored, you will never know.” Adrius smiled, his smile was sinister, it was filled with mockery and something colder than murderous intent. It was almost like a sadistic god seeing his follower's spread death and chaos everywhere they walked.
Mary’s face paled, she looked like a dead person, her arms almost went limp. But the weight of her child in her arms stopped her from going limp. She opened her mouth to speak. “Bu-” Before she could speak a Darkness took over her. Mary didn’t know if she was standing or laying down, all she knows, she was dead. But then she remembered Forest, her baby girl. The light of her life, the creature she loved from the first glance at her.
“No! No! Forest! Forest! Where is my baby?! I want my baby!” Mary screamed into the Darkness. Her voice was filled with pain and despair. She cried and cried and cried. Her baby was in the monster’s hand, Mary cried more at the thoughts of what that maniac would do with her little girl.
Mary curled herself into a ball and started rocking. Her hair was disheveled from her outbreak. Her eyes were read and puffy, her face had red streaks on the cheek area. From the moment she clawed her flesh with her own hands in her grief. “My baby,” her voice was little as she continued rocking back and forth. “My baby, my baby, my baby.” The scene could’ve made the toughest person in the world shed a few tears. Seeing a mother like this over the loss of her baby is not something anyone can bear.

While Mary was crumbling and losing the last bit of sanity she had. In his lab, Adrius was examining the blood. Forest was sleeping on his bed. Mary’s body was taken care of by the beastkin.
When the beastkin came to take care of Mary, Adrius noticed a wolf beastkin looking between Mary and Forest then like something clicked in his mind he almost fell. Adrius didn’t need another clue to tell that this was Forest’s father, so he killed him. He didn’t give an excuse; he does not need an excuse to kill a mere beastkin. They were inferior, every mortal is inferior to a magus.
The beastkin didn’t even say anything, they just walked out with the body without delaying.
“Interesting!” Adrius exclaimed, the blood he was seeing was something different than the one he saw previously. The DNA didn’t resemble the human DNA or the beastkin’s. It was like a combination of them both. But with only the pros of each.
“Now I get why hybrids are frowned upon and hated. This is limit breaking.” Imagine a normal human who isn’t a knight or a magus having the power of a bear. This would change the power scale in the world. Humanity wouldn’t survive the change. Everyone would eventually become this variant human.
“From the blood sample it seems that Forest has human appearance and all the physical powers of the beastkin.” Adrius already knows why Forest didn’t turn out to be more beastkin-like. It was because of human DNA. You see, human DNA has an attribute that is mostly unknown by the mortals. When mixed with another DNA it will take over the DNA and make it its own. It will overpower the DNA, thus making the newborn seem human, but give it the power of the DNA it overpowered.
Of course, this doesn’t work every time, if the DNA was filthy and not pure human then it would not do the process.

Also, there is some DNA:s that human’s can’t overpower. Like the Demon one, the Demon DNA is very powerful. And when it clashes with the human one it will create a very bad result. Both of them will mix together, eventually. But the result is a Quintos. Quintos is a failed hybrid. It is very ugly and repulsing to look at. Many cultures deem Quintos’ as an abomination from hell. That is why Magus can’t mate with mortals, at least official magus, because when they ascend, every fiber of their body will change. Their DNA will literally destroy and build itself again to withstand the power surging through it.
A Quintos’ can be stopped from forming, it can be done with genetic manipulation. But it takes extensive care and time, and magus doesn’t have enough time or care for such things. Thus, Quintos’s are usually killed at their birth. Some people keep them and raise them, it is not unnatural for a Quintos to survive in the Magus world. But in the Demon world or the other worlds, then it is killed at its first breath. To keep away the evil, they say.
Adrius walked away from the mini lab he had in his room and went to the bed. He heard the sound of crying from his bed. It seems that Forest has woken up.
He stopped beside the bed and looked at the girl on the bed. She didn’t look like babies when they were born. She looked like she was 3 months old. ‘It must be that the growth hormone increased when another DNA, especially when a wolf-beastkin's was added.’ He thought.
Her big green eyes looked at his unmasked figure and to his astonishment, she smiled!
“Now that is a girl who understands etiquette.” Adrius chuckled. He didn’t know what to do with her, he could keep her. But it would bring him a lot of trouble. Because Hybrids are forbidden in the magus world. His only other option is to kill her. But he invested 9 months in her, he can’t just kill her.
An idea suddenly appeared in his mind.
“Yes, that could work.” He murmured. His idea was that he would send her to Firebird city with Hadith. And of course, someone to care for her. And she would be raised as his son’s personal maid and protector.
As to how he knew he would get a son, Adrius is a potion master. No, he is a scientist. Of course, he made a genetic alteration on Veronica. Mostly to make her believe the ‘vision’ he showed her even more.
Back to the plan, Forest being in Firebird with Hadith with her is the perfect disguise. She will be Hadith’s daughter, and she is to be his young master’s maid. And if someone questioned about her abnormal strength or animalistic behavior then they would take one look at Hadith and it would make sense to them. They would even question it even more if the child wasn’t animalistic or savage.
And then when she is big enough, he can do the same thing to her as her mother and birth another generation of hybrids. But this time is different, they will be more, everything!
“Sometimes I just want to kiss myself!” Adrius grinned evilly while looking at the baby under him. The baby only had an innocent smile on looking at the man she saw first when she was born and not knowing his sinister ideas.

My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.

Path of the Ancients
When humans with the ability to control the fundamental particles of the universe with their minds were first discovered, the age of space travel began in earnest. Relativistic travel faster than the speed of light became possible and humanity moved out into the stars. When it was discovered that these Mages could be turned into effective weapons, humanity turned back to its oldest pastime of war. Hundreds of years later as humanity was on the brink of self-destruction, with its taste for war finally beginning to wane, a new organization was created. The Conclave was formed to regulate all Mage’s within the human colonies. While the colonies maintained their independence, the Conclave’s control over access to interstellar travel made them the de facto power amongst humanity. As the old saying goes, ‘Power Corrupts’, and many people were unhappy with the way the Conclave had been leveraging its authority, not the least of which were the Mages they controlled. One unregistered illegal Mage by the name of Tyrial had made it his life's mission to dismantle the Conclave at any cost. After spending decades working towards his goals alone, he realized he would need the aid of willing allies in his crusade. Tyrial would need all the help he could get learning to work with others, dealing with his own dark past, and handling unfamiliar feelings of romantic interest. Content Warning Note: They are there to cover my behind. I honestly hesitated to put them there at all but I figured better safe than sorry. Gore in particular barely applies and the sexual content amounts to light Cinemax style at best. But, at least now you can’t say I didn’t warn you. POSTED: Currently, this story is being posted to RoyalRoad and ScribbleHub. If you see this story posted anywhere else, please report it to the user "Tyrial" on either of the aforementioned sites.
