《Ragnarök》Chapter 38 : Anger

It was chaos.
The skies were rumbling with thunder and lightning and the air was drenched with rain and poison.
Fire could be seen everywhere despite the heavy rain because of the pure intensity of the flames and clashes of metal, sounds of explosions and spellcasting could be heard throughout the battlefield.
It was one of the biggest fights in RR history. Will Loki be able to upsurp Asgard, or will they fail terribly?
All the fights were ferocious, with both sides seemingly matched for power. What Odin's faction had in terms of numbers and raw firepower, Loki's side could withstand it due to the strength of their Carnivalist army as well as unpredictability. However, the balance would soon topple. Out of all the fights that were currently ongoing, two mortal enemies had hammered each other so much such that their fight was about to end.
That one fight was the fight that would spark many changes within the war.
Jörmungandr was spraying Thor with only the highest level of his poison spells. With my mana intuition it seemed like the whole sky was entirely murky green. Thor on the other hand was also striking Jörmungandr with only the harshest of lightning spells and walloping him with his hammer, Mjollnir.
All of a sudden, I heard a voice in my head.
“Jinx. Listen, I'm not going to last much longer. Thor isn't going to as well. According to the prophecy, I know I'm destined to die. We all are. That's why we recruited all of you in the first place. I believe you all have the power not to change our fates but to change the aftermath of Ragnarok.” a familiar voice in my head sounded.
“WHAT?! MASTER?! NO! YOU CAN'T JUST RESIGN TO FATE.” I shouted back at the voice in my head.
“Hahaha you're always the objective one but yet now when I delineate my situation to you calmly you freak out? Unbecoming of my disciple man. Listen. I still have one last gift for you, that I can only pass down in the event of my death.”
“Don't talk like this. No.”
I began to remember the first time I met master. He was a snake head the size of Fenrir it was ridiculous and stupid. The way he trained me was also ridiculous and stupid. He was lazy, he was nonchalant and he was always the one to slack off in one corner and sleep while I work on the assignment he gives me.
He taught me the basics of mana manipulation so I could work towards higher mastery levels. He gave me an Ouroboros seal that became the bread and butter of how useful I was now in fights. He threw me in a fucking forest alone and didn't even accompany me. He bit me when I came back from the forest immediately and even though that gave me a huge power boost, he still made me faint almost instantly.
After all that nonsense he did, always calm with his lame jokes, always calm with his teachings and delegations. And now even in the face of death? And I have no idea why. Even though it was just a game and I met him only for a few times, I couldn't accept it. I just could not stand the thought of it.
Not my master.
I was fighting halfway with maxmystical when I changed target and teleported upwards towards the fight between Jörmungandr and Thor. I used half my mana instantly to cast 5 high purity spells on Thor.
It worked.
Thor turned around and stared at me, fury and rage defined in his eyes and instantly, despite my 3000 points in fighting spirit, I felt fear like I've never felt before and froze up there and then. I always used to think people who just suddenly stop moving because of fear or shock were stupid and ignorant.
I was wrong. It's never a choice to freeze because pressure and fear of such insane magnitudes would just make you that way. I saw him swing the hammer in my direction.
“YOU STUPID FOOL!” my master's voice in my head sounded out.
Darkness surrounded me and I thought this was it. This was how I was going to die. However, the darkness started leaving me and I could see the light again. The darkness hurtled down towards the ground faster and faster and that was when I knew. Master threw himself in front of me to protect me. And that was a critical hit.
*BOOOOM*
And that was him hitting the floor. Hard. Motionless. I teleported to his side instantly.
“Noooo. Noooo it wasn't supposed to be this way what have I done....” I knelt beside my master, who's body which was already cold blooded felt even more cold now.
“You're in the middle of a war... Man the fuck up.” I heard a voice in my head.
“YOU'RE ALIVE!” I shouted as I cast all the healing spells I had at my arsenal on him.
“Not for long. Stop wasting your mana. His attacks have caused too much damage even for you to heal. Listen to me. Mythical gods like us can leave behind our titles before we pass on. It is strictly only for disciples only. And with the titles come certain.. Privileges. Use this. To win. You'll know what to do with it...” the voice faded out slowly.
“NO! FUCK NOOOOO! I'LL STOP BEING A BURDEN. I'LL STOP SLAPPING BREADTALK. I'LL EVEN STOP MASTURBATING. COME BACKKKKKKKKKKKKK!”
A silence so long, so deep and so painful was the only answer I got.
You've inherited the title : Infinite Ouroboros.
Your Ouroboros seal has reached a new level due to a certain event.
Ouroboros Seal | Godlike level 1 (0%). Stores up to 1000000 mana. Able to use it whenever you want like a mana bank. Also, it has it's own regen rate of 10000 mana per second outside of battle and 1000 mana per second in battle.
Affinity to Darkness became +40%
Affinity to Water became +40%
Affinity to Lightning became +40%
So this was what he meant when he said I would inherit title and certain priviliges... FUCK THIS SHIT LIKE I NEED IT. HOW IS THIS WORTH IT FOR HIS LIFE.
I was someone who hardly felt angry. All my life, I've always been laid back, relaxed, happy go lucky. I would mug last minute for examinations. I would thoroughly enjoy the moments I've been in so this was a new emotion to me. I felt like the whole world was against me. I felt so... enraged. I felt like I needed to murder the person who did this to master over and over and over and over again until his body was mutilated and unrecognisable. The Aesir who were nearby me and the corpse of my master backed away. They could've tried to kill me there and then but they chose to back away.
My eyes wandered around until they found what they were searching for.
Thor has descended onto the Bifrost with his hand in a guts pose held high above his head, fist clenched as he roared in celebration while walking towards his teammates.
His teammates roared back. Followed by a series of screams.
Thor has managed to walk 7 paces before his face changed. It contorted itself with unmistakable pain. He fell to the floor, body writhing in pain.
That's not the only pain you'll get.
I used my whole mana pool. I didn't give a rat's ass what would happen to me afterwards.

“Divine Judgement.”
A dark green blade as murky and pure as my master's dropped down onto Thor's head.
He became motionless.
Both sides of the war roared with fury. Loki, Hel and Fenrir were outraged that Jörmungandr was killed. Similarly, Odin and his family were also furious. This battle ended up in a draw, but this would be the only one that ends that way.
Suddenly, Mjollnir flew from Thor's body towards Magni, son of Thor. It must be the same as Jörmungandr's title. The hammer would be inherited by his son as the next worthy candidate to wield it. He brought the hammer down and a flash of lightning targeted at me flashed down from the sky. Suddenly, a shield was brought on top of me and the lightning bounced off it. Sigyn was beside me.
“You've tried your best son. Jörmungandr wouldn't want you to die like that. Recover yourself. Then go and teach those Nazi BALLs what it means to kick ass.” Sigyn said.
She put her hand on my back and I saw my mana bar rise back to full.
“Are you going to be alright?” I asked, worried about the sheer amount of mana she just passed to me.
“I can see why Jörmungandr liked you. Don't worry. My spells don't use a lot of mana. I can spare a million to top you up. Go now.” she smiled at me.
I didn't need to be told twice what to do.
I saw Maxmystical whom I was fighting with before the Jörmungandr and Thor episode focusing his efforts now on Horse. I teleported beside Horse and shielded her with a shield made of darkness meant to absorb anything and everything.
“Leave him. You need to focus on more important people. You're the best 1v1 fighter we got here. Leave this idiot to me. You need to go take care of the others.” I told her.
She looked at me and did not say a word. She must've seen the way I looked. Enraged, stern, serious and cold. No one has seen me this way before. She held her hand to my face and caressed it lightly for abit.
“Go kick some ass.” she said before she stealthed and headed deeper into the battlefield.
I teleported beside Maxmystical instantly and casted another spell from the 50 Jörmungandr left me.
“Reaper's Scythe.”
A dark blade made out of pure darkness ripped off his head. It was as potent as any god level spell now because my affinites were maxed out. A 60% affinity to nature and 40% affinity to darkness made the total 100%. It could not rise any higher.
Maxmystical's head rolled off and the body turned into water.
Another water clone. Just like Njord's disciple.
My mana intuition could not differentiate between the clones and the original because they were both made out of similar colours and purity. Ice and water based with high purity. If only there was a way to differentiate between his clone and where his real body was.
I might be enraged but I was still myself. I was desperate for blood but I could still think calmly and systematically. It must've been my master's words. They still resonated within me.
“Yes master. I'll be objective and calm till the end. But this life is for you.” I muttered.
I began to formulate my new plan. I still had a healthy 900000 mana left and as I observed my surroundings, I came to one plan that I felt had no way of failing.
Maxmystical was hurtling ice spears and water torrents at me with such ferocity and speed that it would've taken the past me everything just to avoid or block his spells but I was different. I had 10 times the mana than before and I was angry. Very angry. I cast a fire spell to melt all the spears into water and absorb the water torrents around me. The whole floor was soaked with water.
I would like to say I came up with some ingenious way to bait and lure him out of his clones but albeit the calmness, anger was still the main source of fuel. I used 500000 mana without a bit of hesitation.
“Elexecution”
Lightning mana was the easiest purity to see. Usually people see electricity as a yellow flash but that is one of the lowest purities already. The purity of electricity could be seen with the naked eye. It starts off as yellow, then orange, then blue, then purple respectively according to how pure the mana was. However, at it's highest purity, it was not even purple. White lightning shot out from my hands, directed at the water while I jumped one meter off the ground.
I melted such a huge amount of ice and Maxmystical threw so much water around that a 3km radius was covered with water. Fighting on it were more people like Aesir, Valkyries and a few Carnivalists. I felt sorry but this was the fastest and easiest way to deal with Maxmystical. The 500000 pure white electricity mana was conducted by the water body and everyone in contact with the water was instantly shocked.
It was a 3km radius pond of elexecution. Everyone was jolted and shocked into petrification or death. All the small fries like the Aesir, Valkyrie and sadly some Carnivalists died instantly. All the water clones of Maxmystical vanished. All that was left within a 3km radius was just a spasming Maxmystical on the ground, spazzing uncontrollably.
I teleported over to him and stepped on him, unaffected by my own spell as such was the nature of elexecution.
“You have not angered me in any way personally but one of your colleagues killed a very important person to me. As such, I won't send you off in peace.” I said coldly to him, unsure of whether he could even hear me before I started extracting my cold, hard revenge.
I used a moderate amount of mana to burn him, making his whole body flammable by using a combination of dark and water mana to create a flamable liquid. I encased his body in a coffin made by earth mana and I used his favourite mana against him. I froze him up entirely with ice mana and took out my trusty katana.
“Gravity Omnislash.”
The ice split into thirty equal pieces as the name Maxmystical above his name turned red with skulls on either side of it. Signifying complete and utter death.
Strangely enough, my anger disappitated a little despite me killing someone who wasn't directly involved. However, a huge chunk of it was still left behind and I knew the only way for me to get rid of this inner rage was to kill the person most related to Thor.
I took a short break, recovering my mana to the max since there was no one close within 3km and formulated my thoughts on how I would murder Magni.
Suddenly, a huge roar which wasn't human sounded out. Needless to say, the moment I looked in the direction the roar came from, I knew who did it.
Fenrir was the embodiment of rage and anger for some cults and it was no surprise. He was definitely the most violent amongst the gods but no one knew how violent he could be. However, the scene before us showed without a doubt why he was feared, by everyone for his rage.
Fenrir was holding Odin by the head. A head that was ripped off the neck of the body with an unmistakable look of shock on his face.
Loki, Hel and Sigyn cheered along with the rest of the Carnivalists while Odin's group was enraged. It was war at it's core. Kill before you're killed. Take revenge on the other side before they extract revenge from you. Only the winner is right. All is fair in love and war.
I got up after recovering the majority of my mana and begun making my way towards Magni which I could sense using my mana intuition.
By Jörmungandr's life, I will rape all of them, starting with Maxmystical, followed by Magni.

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
