《Edenawe by Rulpra》Vol.1 Chapter 9-Preparations

Quote:Seeing that his stats kept growing and skills kept accumulating, he was proud of himself. Then he noticed. Some of his skills level didn’t increase at all. They were at the same point just like when he checked last time. He was a bit worried and decided that, first thing tomorrow he needs to talk to Nori and see if she knows something about it.
The next day he went to find Nori. These days Nori was quite busy since she was responsible for the brothel and with the lockdown the brothel got even busier with all the soldiers around so Paul and Nori didn’t have time to talk a lot in the last period.
When Paul found her she was tired sitting at the desk in her office.
-“Are you busy?”
-“Ah….Paul. Yes I’m really busy but I could use a break. What’s up?”
-“Well I have a question and you are the person with the most knowledge I know.”
-“Maybe…so what’s the problem?”
-“I noticed that no matter what I do some of my skills don’t level up.”
-“That is only natural. You see everyone has skill limits, and when different skills reach that limit they stop. Each person is different so the skill level limit is different.”
-“Isn’t there a way to remove that limit?”
-“Well there are special conditions that need to be met for some people. There are also some potions and items that remove the limits to some or all skill but they are so rare that I only heard rumors about it.”
-“I see… there still is about a month until the second sun vanishes. Do you have any tips about what I would need out in the wild?”
She chuckled feeling that she is like a teacher and looked Paul in the eye and said
-“Depends on what you want to do”
-“Well let’s just say survive”
-“Do you have any ranged weapons?”
-“No.”
-“Well they would be useful for hunting. You should learn some basics.”
-“Anything else?”
-“Well I know men don’t really like it but cooking. You need to eat to live”
-“That’s true”
-“You should also head to the library when you have time to read about all that you can. Knowledge is power, that is what my guild teaches you first time you enter.”
-“You help me all the time…anything I can help you with?”
-“No…but if I need help I’ll ask. Also for the next month I won’t be able to meet and talk much unless it’s an emergency. My friend will come back after the lockdown and I want to make sure the brothel is in good condition for her.”
-“I understand. Thank you again for the help”
Paul left the brothel and headed to the guild testing facility. The cube of terror awaited him. This time instead of choosing daggers he chose a bow. Before entering he took a Limit pill and entered. This time on the ground was a bow and a quiver with one arrow in it. Paul picked it up and as soon as he touched the arrow, the doll shot him in the head. Paul was already used to the pain and he took an arrow and shot it at the doll. He already knew how to use a bow since back in his world he trained for a bit with it.

The unexpected thing was that the as soon as he took out the arrow another appeared in the quiver and the one which he shot, after hitting the target dissolved. Paul could only shoot arrows from a fixed position while the doll shot while moving. The doll was not that accurate but it still hit Paul a number of times. Paul got used to the bow and now he began to move while shooting as well.
After 24 hours he got out. On the door there was 14-122. He died 122 times. Next he checked the bracelet.

Paul then instead of going back in the box sat next to it and decided to start reading since his knowledge was quite lacking and it would seem even more suspicious in a bigger city.
Paul thinking of the ring already knew the titles of the books but not what was inside of them.
Paul decided to first learn about creatures, then about the inhabitants of this world, then about the guilds and finally everything else he could learn about.
He got out a book about creatures and started reading. At first it was quite hard, since there were a lot of things he didn’t understand but as he got deeper into the book things started to make sense. After finishing the book he took another one and started reading. After a few hours and 10 books he got a new skill
Bookworm-Beginner LVL.1(10%)You can read 10% faster.
Special: Because of another skill you remember everything you read and get a 5% increase in speed reading.
Paul was really grateful at this skill since he had a lot of books to read and wanted to finish as soon as possible. After looking at the skill description he got back to reading. He began to finish books faster and faster. After 24 hours he finished 70 books.
Stats updateBecause of your actions since the last time you checked you increased your following stats:

+20 wisdom
After that he got back into the cube to train his archery. He repeated this routine for a whole week. He trained his archery for 4 days and for 3 whole day he read. He finished reading 620 books thanks to his reading skill. He only succeeded in reading books about creatures since they were so many books. He had 20 841 books left to read.
He slept for 24 hours. The next day he got up and went to the inn to learn cooking. Cooking was a lot harder than he though and it took him a whole day to learn. However after learning the inn owner gave him a present. A book of recipes. The book was really thick and had a very large collection of recipes. The cooking skill was absorbed by the Survivialist skill.

Not having anything planned Paul decided that he needs to be ready for when the time is right so he went to the marketplace and bought a few things. He bought tools for blacksmithing, cooking, tailoring.
After shopping he went to the shack and crafted himself a bow. He crafted about 10 of them before but they were failures.
Iron bowDamage30-40Durabillity200/200An iron bow that has been crafted of a high grade iron by a skilled blacksmith.
He melted the failures and then started to create himself an armor. He got out the creatures he killed before coming to the village and out of then he crafted a pair of armor. After finishing he used blacksmithing to put small pieces of iron plates for extra protection. He put extra protection to his chest and back, his hands and legs. The steel wasn’t visible because Paul made it really thin and light and also he hid it inside the armor. It looked like a leather armor but it offered extra protection.
Armor of the beastProtection100-250Durabillity600/600A special armor crafted out of creatures and enhanced with iron thanks to the crafters knowledge of both blacksmithing and tailoring.
Special effects:- Protection against piercing damage
He put everything in the ring so that he won’t attract too much attention and when he looked outside the day was already over. He went to bed and as usual he started reviewing what he did in the last 24 hours.
The next day as soon as he got up he took a Limit Pill and started to read. His intelligence and wisdom kept increasing as he read more and more books. In the first 24 hours he finished 721 books. He kept increasing the number of books he read every day. Then he finished 850, then 1201, then 2000 and at this time his skill reached another level.
Bookworm-Intermediary LVL.1(25%)You can read 500% faster.
Special: Because of another skill you remember everything you read and get a 100% increase in speed reading.
The next day he finished 4521, then 7512 books. The last day he finished the rest of the books. Now that he finished he still had a few hours left before going to sleep and decided to check his stats and skill lvls.

Paul satisfied went to sleep. From all those books Paul learned many useful things. He learned that there are many different creatures and that they also are separated in ranks. There were many creatures that have not been discovered and some that went extinct. He also learned to speak elven, the language of the elf’s and runean the language of the dwarves. He learned that the kingdoms only have a few S ranks since most of them go into the undiscovered and dangerous parts of the world, known as the wilds. The advents, well most of them, are all above rank A and usually after reaching rank S they all go to the wilds or stay and help the kingdoms. There are exceptions of course, some become criminals and are the leaders of large groups of bandits attacking innocent people. He also found out that most A ranks have some of the stats in the 5000, B ranks in the 1200, C ranks in the 900, D ranks in the 600, E ranks in the 300, F ranks in the 200, and G ranks in the 100.
He also learned a few things about magic. It seems that magic is not like he though. You can’t create a fireball out of nothing. You need a fire first and then using mana you can control that fire to make it bigger or smaller. You use you mana to manipulate the element of you desire. There are no spells only books that teach you different ways to use mana. It seems that you can use mana on anything, even to strengthen a certain object. Depending on the amount of mana used it lasts more or less. As for the healing spells, they just inject mana into the wound accelerating the body’s natural healing ability.
There are magic items that are the real wonders. There are magical formulas that are put on objects and when infused with mana they have different effects. One example was the cube in which Paul trained. He learned that under the cube there is a mana crystal that feeds the cube. When someone touches the crystal at the entrance it makes a copy of him and creates a golem that reacts the same way the user does. Magical formulas are very hard to create, and most of them that exist now are copies of ancient formulas that were created by an ancient civilization that disappeared. Now they can only create really simple ones that you could do even without magic so there really isn’t much research.
There were about 2 weeks left until the seconds sun disappears, and Paul was ready. On the other hand Rocka was starting to worry that the advent might not appear and he would lose the bet. He started to plan something in case he loses. Paul didn’t know, and kept on sleeping.
