《Blood and Honor》Chapter 74- Battle of the Narrows

Underdark
Narrows
Jacob, the Dawn Guard, 500 soldiers from Ineford and 4 War Parties waited in ambush. The 800 Clan Darguun members were positioned opposite of them, both were under illusion spells. Jacob had informed Dolbrug that some of his own clanmates might try to kill him if they could during the battle and to be on his guard for betrayal within his own ranks.
A long line of armed and armored slaves marched by, oblivious of their presence for the moment. 4 Battle Flags had passed so far and they were moments from launching the attack. Once they saw the 6th enter the ambush point they would launch the attack. Rogues had laced the ceiling with Alchemic Bombs that would drop all along the length of the army and soften them before Jacob and Sosa launched their attacks. Jacob hoped between the confusion of the Bombs and the surprise attack that they could defeat most of the SIsters forces quickly.
Nadal Despval watched as the long line of battle slaves marched ahead of him. The Narrows was a bad place to be but they had to pass through it to get to either Darkfang Hold or Fortress Ill'Gargon. Since Fortress Ill'Gargon had fallen recently, it would be the better target for them to strike. Suddenly explosions rocked the whole length of the line. Dozens died instantly and others caught fire, Nadal started screaming out orders trying to get the army organized but the Narrows made organizing and deploying the army all but impossible.
Jacob charged the confused battle line leading a charge of over 500. Fireballs, Lightning, Chaos Bolts, and Acid Bolts proceeded them causing even more chaos and destruction among the SIsters ranks. Jacob analyzed the nearest ranks of slave soldiers and saw that they were mostly level 15 to 20. The soldiers of Ineford were around low 40s mainly and the Dawn Guard was high 30s, so it was a slaughter mainly until the more powerful Drow started to filter into the fight and they equaled Jacobs forces in level if not numbers.

Sosa and her army were cutting deeper into the ranks of the enemy, Jacob Longstrider forces were fighting opposite of hers. He had made sure the Dwarf Captain was to follow her orders or Jacob would relieve him of his head after the battle. So the Dwarf had listened carefully and they were now pushing the back ranks of the Sisters army back and grinding them steadily into dust. A solid formation of Drow had moved to reinforce the battle line in front of them and the forward motion of Sosa and her warriors had slowed to a crawl.
Nadal looked at the enclosing enemy, he was cut off and with little room to maneuver the battle had been turned into who could kill more of the enemy. Only his personal guard of 25 warriors and 5 mages were uncommitted to the ongoing battle, they wouldn't make a difference in the overall battle, but they might be able to help him cut his way free of the battle. "General, do you have any other orders?" an aide asked.
Nadal Despval shook his head at his subordinate. "For the army, no. Have my guard form up. I will be needing them sooner rather than later." A flurry of crossbow bolts and arrows flashed overhead and slammed into the advancing line of the SIster's soldiers. The line staggered under the volley but continued on slamming into Jacobs battle line. Maces, axes, and short swords flashed out, hacking at limbs and crushing bones. Screams filled the air as the Sisters soldiers died or were maimed driving them back steadily. The battle had gone on for almost 30 minutes and the warriors of Clan Darguun were quickly finishing up their part of the battle almost. As soon as they finished, they would wheel around and reinforce Jacob's position.
Pressing the SIsters so badly were making them desperate and the way the fought showed as the allied forces were closing in on them. It was time to finish the battle and the threat this army posed Jacob thought as he drove the short sword into the gut of the Orc in front of him. 30 minutes later Jacob walked among the corpses, a 50-minute battle with less than 200 captured out of 2300 enemies. The opposing general, Nadal Despval, had managed to escape at the cost of his personal guard being destroyed to the man. Sosa's dissenters had taken shots at both her and Dolbrug. All of them had died and they now walked with him among the corpses, "It seems I can trust you Chieftan Darkfang. I won't forget what happened here today" Jacob told the other halfling.

"I will not forget the fact your wife saved my life or that we forged this friendship in blood," Sosa responded while her brother loomed behind her. The two leaders were ringed by the Dawn Guard and Sosa's own personal guards chosen by Dolburg himself.
Jacob smiled, "What can I say, you caught my wife's eye. She is protective of what she likes and she sees potential in you." Sosa blushed while Cathrine laughed silently. She and the squad of Deathwalkers had been critical in stopping the assassination attempt on her life. Cathrine had at first disliked the idea but then understood that even if they won the battle if they lost Sosa or her brother it wouldn't matter.
Jacob watched as the last of the soldiers of Ineford left after having lost 50 with another 200 wounded. The Dawn Guard had suffered 5 dead and 20 wounded. Clan Darguun had lost 100, with another 300 wounded. The cost of lives was far less then Jacob expected, but without the total surprise, the cost would have easily been triple of what they had lost. "What are your plans for the future Lord Longstrider?" Sosa asked him as they continued their walk together among the bodies.
"For now, consolidate and train my current soldiers. After that...the war with the Sisters is far from over Chief Darkfang." Jacob told her as he thought of Fortress of Baereghel. It was his next target and with this army destroyed its position should be weakened.

Maker Of Power
Reality turns Legend. Legend turns Myth. And Myth vanishes over time. But not these Myths. Not this Legends. Not this Reality. No. These are stories that everyone knows. Stories sang time and time again. Tales of magic powerful enough to rival whole kingdoms. And the people that wield that magic. Everyone knows them. The tale of Velacinir, the Great. The song of Alek, the Skilful. The Legend of Waner, the Lost Smith. The Myth of Kaveli, the Unifier. All people know these things. These Storys, Legends, Myths, Tales, Songs. And mostly everyone thinks they never happened. But they did. And I was part of them. All of them. I was there. I might not have been the one to kill the dragon. The one that found the skill of resurrection. The one that fought whole armies for their family. I might have not been those people but I was there. Because although I may have not done those things, the people that did it weren't created from night to day. They did not just appear. They were taught like everyone else. They were just better at the things that people taught them. That I taught them. Yes. I am not the one that songs are being written about. I may not be the one whose legends perdures even until today. But one thing I am. I am their teacher, their instructor. I am the one that made them what they became. I am... Who am I? I had many names through the ages, but there was one that stuck to me the most. I am the Maker of Power. But like the ones that I thought. I was also a normal person before everything that happened. And this is how it all happened. This is MY Story. MY Legend. MY Myth. MY Song and MY Tale. This is MY beginning. And YOU SHALL LEARN IT. ------------------- Release schedule: Nonexistent.

Celestial Spark
Mages traditionally make poor fodder, but with proper training and motivation, possess near limitless potential. For mage teams, the battle camps of the Upper Realms provide both, with missions ranging from orc hunts to political espionage. This tale follows one such team of four who strive to prove themselves in a world that would rather overlook them. Loyalty, honour, and devotion are contrasted by avarice, treachery, and apathy, though at times it can be difficult to separate vice from virtue. For though all people, whether they hail from the peripheries or the kingdom capital, are subjects whose fates are bound to the stars, their choices must be their own. Any comments or questions are welcomed.
